San Diego, United States of America

Experience life at sea without leaving port by visiting the USS Midway Museum, San Diego's newest visitor attraction. A visit to this historic naval aircraft carrier museum is an essential experience for people of all ages.

The USS Midway was the US Navy's longest serving carrier of the 20th century (1945-1992), and the largest ship in the world for a decade, housing 4,500 crew! Now you can walk in the footsteps of 225,000 sailors on a self-guided audio tour narrated by former Midway sailors and officers.

More than 65 locations, from the engine room to the bridge, and 25 restored historic aircraft are on display. The USS Midway also contains interactive exhibits and climb-aboard aircraft for all ages. Don't miss the flight simulators, gift shop and cafe.

Experience what it was like to be part of a "city at sea", explore galleys, officer's country, sleeping quarters and the engine room of the first Navy ship too large for the Panama Canal! You will be amazed by the 4-acre flight deck and the 360-degree panoramic view of downtown San Diego.

Excellent. especially the self-guided tour, every young person should take this tour to experience, learn and appreciate what a country can accomplish and protect itself, the very reason why America is as great a country as she is.

the Midway is huge, you can easily spend a good 4 hours there exploring, so plan on at least 3 hours minimum

Well worth a visit. Excellent museum and an absolute must in San Diego. Just to realise the size of this ship is amazing. Don't miss it! And with Viator tickets, we skipped the line. Excellent!

This Viator tour was awesome! Very interesting and fun seeing so many cool things aboard the ship! It saved us 10.00 and we skipped the line where everyone else was buying their tickets. My husband said If this really works and it's really this easy he will be very surprised!....well it was that easy...we bought our tickets while standing in front of the USS Midway Museum click done and they scanned my phone the bar code done! That easy. I would definitely recommend using Viator! Thank you Viator.

I went on this one rather reluctantly. We ended up spending three hours on the midway. The history was interesting, but what engaged me most was listening to vets who had served on the midway and are now docents. They were so passionate about what they had done and how wonderful the ship was that I left feeling like I had had a truly genuine experience. Went to late afternoon and the weekday in January. Very few tourists/visitors. A tour I would definitely recommend.

The Midway museum is great. We spent 5 hours on it and could have spent more. The docents were all extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. My cousin and his wife from out of town loved it. _br/_ If you haven't been, you are missing one of the best things to do in San Diego.

It was an interesting experience. Due to time limitation, we spent about 2.5 hours. I think that we should have spent at least 4 hours.

If you are a Naval ship buff or just enjoy history, this museum is so interesting. Most of the guides served on this ship and have knowledge that you just don't get from history books. So glad they preserved this jewel.

We got to the ship at 10am when it opened and they kicked us out at 5pm when it closed! I don't know how people do this in a couple of hours but they must just gloss over most of it. Make sure and take in the talks on the deck bow and stern from retired pilots about how the launch and landing operations work. Even if you're sure you know how it works, you're going to learn things.

Unbelievable educational experience. our group split up and met back at the cafe area 3 hours lateryou can pack your own lunch in and we hadn't eve crossed paths once. You can explore almost every crevice of the ship - tons of information, docents at many points telling you about their personal military experience n the Midway or a carrier like it. Aircraft you can sit in. We easily spent 4 hours traversing the ship and listening to the audio tours on provided headsets as well.

Review by:   Charles D,    September 2017 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
There are 66 stations/points of interest on the free audio tour. We were able to enjoy only 29 of them in the short 3 hours we were there. That did include a 35 minute stop at the Fantail snack shop and gift shop. Recommend more that 4 hours to really enjoy and see everything.

Touring the Midway on Labor Day was a memorable way to spend this holiday honoring those who served and are serving. The Skip the Line feature made our visit even more enjoyable no waiting to get on board. The many older docents who were located at various points on the ship shared their memories of being on the Midway which made the visit even more memorable. Their tales added to the already historical aspects of the ship. We spent over three hours exploring at our own pace and came back with a sense of awe.

We visited the Midway on a Sunday. The discounted price was nice, saved us 8, but more importantly, as the promotion says, we skipped the ticket line. The ticket office opens precisely at 10:00 am and we arrived about 5 to 10 minutes early and walked right past it with maybe a hundred or more people waiting to buy tickets. They will let you on the ship before 10:00am with the advanced tickets. We went right up to the flight deck, which was practically empty and were greeted by three sailors in dress whites singing the national anthem in a small ceremony my family stood for that event, thank you very much. We had the flight deck almost to ourselves and we were able to take dozens of pictures of the many aircraft without any other tourists in the way. Within an hour, the flight deck was swarming with folks and children. We also took the control tower tour early on with almost no waiting. Purchasing the tickets in advance really helped make the day.

The USS Midway is an amazing piece of American history, ingenuity and military strength! The ship is massive! So much to see. Plan to spend several hours exploring her as there is much to see. Have water and a cool towel on warm days as it can get pretty stuffy especially below decks. As a bonus you will also get to see the many aircraft used during WWII and even today. Great trip!

We loved this experience. We thought that 3-4 hours would allow us time to see everything. We could have easily spent the whole day. The experience is family friendly and very "hands on." The docents are amazing. If we are lucky enough to return to San Diego, we will go back.

Great value tour, well presented and pleny of volunteers on hand to assist and provide information. Many of them have served on the ship. We could have spent at least half a day on the ship but only had 3 hours which I would say was the minimum required. Arrive early to avoid the quew and head straight for the Island Tour before it gets busy.

This is a must when visiting San Diego. Really interesting seeing all the planes and the interior of the ship. Doesn't matter if your in to history of not a great adventure for young and old alike. The volunteers were excellent. Also was with someone with a bad leg and there were elevators to most of the areas.
