Even having pre-paid for admission, we still had to wait in a long line to get the voucher exchanged for a ticket to get into the museum. The museum itself was fun and interesting I especially liked the tower.

The Oscar de la Renta exhibit at the de Young was absolutely stunning. They showcased dresses from the start to end of de la Renta's career. If you're interested to learn about his technique and style, you must get the audio tour!

Such a great treat to visit the de Young Museum! I have been here more times that I can count on two hands and it never fails to disappoint. They’re always featuring fabulous exhibits that would be a shame to miss. My favorite ones have been, The Art of Bulgari and the most recent (and current!), Oscar De La Renta exhibit. Had the opportunity to go with my mom and sister for this past Mother’s Day. They too, were saying what a fun day it was. My mom even said, “This has been the best Mother’s Day!”. If you’re in SF and find yourself in Golden Gate Park, be sure to visit the de Young Museum.

My wife and I had not been to the new facility yet. It was very nice and brought back old memories from our visits to the old de Young.

Actually, I had meant to get tickets for the David Hockney exhibit, but, by accident just bought those for the general admission. But I was very pleasantly surprised when, as we peeked at the rooms of the D.H. exhibit, bordering the rest of the museum, an employee (commissioner?) asked me if I wasn't interested in seeing the exhibit. I told him what had happened and he gave me and my husband "staff" passes to see the special exhibit. What a nice gesture! We were delighted!

Took two friends from Galveston to the deYoung to see the David Hockney show. It was great, as is the entire museum, including the amazing tower with its enormous view. The tickets were a bargain and worked out well.

Review by:   Mary M. A,    November 2013 Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this
I was upset with the way I had to check in for the exhibits. The woman at the desk didn't know anything about the ticket that I had. She read the paper work several times and had to call someone else over to read the papers/email before I could get a ticket and sticker to wear on my blouse. I was delayed at the counter for almost ten minutes while all this "checking" was going on, while my friends when on ahead. (They did not have to do this checkin because one of them had a friend who was a museum member and had gotten tickets for them.) The email that you sent me said that I could see the general admission displays and other exhibits. While I pointed out that the email said exhibits they would only ticket me to see one exhibit. I won't brother to use this means of ticking again.

I was really surprised how much I loved this museum. Don't just come for the special exhibits (but if you do, you'll want to come early, this is a really popular place!), the whole museum is incredible and a lot bigger and more varied than you might expect. _br_ _/br_ We wandered through all the lower galleries admiring the cool modern sculptures and a very powerful photography exhibit on the ravages of wartime--absolutely captivating and timely. After the special exhibit and everything downstairs, we ventured upstairs and were blown away! There was so much to see that we opted to take a break for lunch (the cafe is crazy delicious--veal croquettes--I'll say no more). Everything from period furnishings, amazing textiles, Colonial portraits, entire galleries devoted to cultural arts, I couldn't snap enough pictures or contain my ooh and aahs! _br_ _/br_ I had hoped to visit the Legion of Honor in the same day, but visiting the DeYoung (especially if you're an art lover) is worth having a day to itself. I can't recommend this museum highly enough.

Great museum in a fabulous location! This is one of my favorite places in San Francisco and I can highly recommend a visit. The art and special exhibitions are always stunning and intriguing, plus the museum itself is one of the most unique buildings in the city. Located right in the heart of Golden Gate Park, the de Young is a must see.

We had such a great Friday night! We were lucky to catch the last weekend of "Girl with a Pearl Earring" and heard some great live music after walking through the galleries. Next time, I'll definitely aim for another special event. I also loved the observation tower - it's the best way to see Golden Gate Park from above and much more!

The DeYoung is a beautiful museum in a great location in Golden Gate Park! I loved all the art and the special exhibit on Dutch masters. Don't miss going up the tower for a wonderful view of San Francisco.

The visit to the de Young Museum was thoroughly enjoyable. The view from the museum tower nine floors above showcased the lovely grounds below and gave a spectacular view of the San Francisco surroundings. _br_ _/br_ The exhibits were refreshing with the exquisite The Girl with the Pearl Earrings amongst the works of the various Dutch artists. The room with the whimsical pieces was a favorite with a mixture of silver raindrops poised from the ceiling, Chiluly flowers and bowls, and pieces of varied textures and colors.
