Muir Woods and Sausalito Tour plus Bay Cruise

San Francisco, United States of America

Combine a visit to Muir Woods and Sausalito with a fabulous cruise on San Francisco Bay. You'll cross the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay area's most popular national monument, visit Sausalito - the prettiest village in California and sail next to Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate Bridge on a narrated one-hour cruise.

First, this enthralling excursion takes you across the Golden Gate Bridge to stop for a view of San Francisco from Vista Point, then through the coastal mountains to the Bay Area's popular Muir Woods. This national monument is the site of a virgin forest of California Coast redwood trees, among the oldest and tallest on earth. Take the opportunity to roam through an ancient forest of giant redwood trees on your 75-minute visit of Muir Woods.

The tour then takes you to Sausalito, a quaint Mediterranean-style seaside village. Stroll along the waterfront, shop or take photos in this picturesque artists' colony nestled on the northern shores of San Francisco Bay.

In addition, you'll enjoy an hour of breathtaking sightseeing on the Golden Gate Bay Cruise. The fully narrated cruise on San Francisco Bay takes you under the Golden Gate Bridge (weather permitting) for close-up views of Alcatraz Island, the San Francisco waterfront and the California sea lions.

We had an amazing time, the driver stopped for some picture time new Golden Gate. I wish we had more time for walks in the woods, but overall it was really great experience!

I didn’t know about Miur Woods until I read about it in the tour description. This tour took me places I could not have gone with SF public transportation. The driver was entertaining and made it fun.

It was an excellent tour , very informative and relaxing. The Muir Woods park is very impressive an we enjoyed it a lot. On our way back we decided to stay in Sausalito and have a nice lunch and stroll around the city. We took the Ferry back to San Francisco and the view of the Bay was breathtaking. We love the tour from beginning to end.

Enjoyed the tour. Would have liked more time in both Muir Woods and Sausalito...maybe the company would consider offering a full day tour. We chose to add on the Bay Cruise option and it was fun to cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz. Be cautioned, if you add on the Bay Cruise, you are dropped off in the Fisherman's Wharf area and must make you own way back to your hotel after the cruise. This was fine for us as we were within walking distance, but it is something to consider if your hotel is not close by.

The drive to Muir Woods was beautiful and nail biting...the road was along the mountain sides and were very elevated...the driver navigated this with expertise while filling is in on information about the area and the Muir Woods. I have wanted to come here forever and it felt like a religious experience...the redwoods were so large and high and so majestic...To get perspective on photos you had to have people in the shots for comparison. This was nature at its best. Beautiful gift shop....Only problem for me was that the stay at Muir Woods was too short...I could have stayed all day!!

The Muir Woods and Saulsalito Tour with the Bay cruise was really great. The drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, was part of the best day. Muir Woods was everything I had expected. The only thing was that we didn't have enough time in Saulsalito. Apart from that, the rest of it including the cruise was fantastic. The tour guide/driver was very knowledgeable. _br/_ AP. Took the trip on 10/5 and had an absolute blast. It was well run and the bus driver was knowledgeable, personable and an all around great guy. I would recommend this trip to anyone who doesn't have a lot of time but wants to see as much as possible.

First we walked to the tour office a couple of blocks from our hotel and luckily I went into the tour office to check in right away as there was a line out the door. They have many different tours leaving around the same time and once you check in they hand you your tour tickets and colored bus passes which designate which tour bus you will be on. So make sure even though you print out your reservation that you check into the tour office. Next all of the different tour buses pull across the street from the tour office and you get on your designated bus. Now for the trip itself. Our bus driver Randy was very funny and informative throughout the trip. First we drove over to Muir Woods which was beautiful and awesome! For our group we only were at Muir Woods for 1.25 hours which I wish we were there longer since there are a few trails that would have been fun to hike but due to time restraints could not. Luckily we went here 1st because the line up to pull into the park was really long. We then boarded the bus and headed to Sausalito. My problem with this particular tour was that once we parked in Sausalito we only had 1 hour before we had to get on the bus to head over to the Bay Cruise. I had made lunch reservations but had to cancel it because in order to get to the restaurant, order, and get back to the bus we would have been left behind so we only had time to run through a sandwich place close by where the bus parked and had no time to look around Sausalito. We all loaded up on the bus to head to Fisherman's Wharf where we were dropped off at the corner and had to walk a block or so to the Bay Cruise excursion hut and find out when the Bay Cruise times were. I'm not sure I would take this tour again but would find a tour that went to Muir Woods for at least 2 hours, Sausalito for at least 2 hours, then catch the Ferry back to either Fisherman's Wharf or the Ferry Building.

It was very nice but very short. The experience alone I would have rated a 5, but the rushed feeling made me rate it lower. The Bay Cruise was nice, we ended up getting a 1 1/2 hour trip for the price of an hour trip due to a booking error somehow in our favor.

We had a great time on this tour. Our bus driver, Randy, was informative, entertaining, and willing to answer any question posed to him with professionalism, and a bit of humor. He really made the bus ride fun! Muir Woods was spectacular, and shouldn't be missed. Sausalito was quaint, and offered many nice choices for shopping and lunch. The Bay Cruise portion of the trip was great, too, offering beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. All around, this trip was wonderful, and should be a part of everyones visit to the San Francisco area.

The tour itself was great. However, the over-booking, lack of communication between the Gray-Line employees and no A/C on the bus were grounds for not using this vendor again for future trips. During more than one conversation with the Gray-Line staff about the location for the meeting point, status of the tour and reason for the delay and no A/C, they were dishonest and told us a complete untruth. This was not a pleasant experience. We were sorely disappointed.

This was the first tour I had booked, so of course I had some last minute questions, i.e.do we need a car seat for infant. I spent some time of phone with a viator rep, she tried but was unable to get clear answer. Next time I will ask for the actual Tour Co GrayLine and ask. Would have saved us all some time and aggravation. _br/_ Once I was able to talk to the local tour company I was able to get answer by the way, no car seats for infants on buses required..pheww Muir Woods was a breath of fresh air, beautiful, bus driver talked about the area a destinations, interesting :_br/_ Sausalito great restaurant but not enough time_br/_ would have liked more time in both places,_br/_ the Bay Cruise...I am not a fan, the bay is very choppy, unpleasant boat ride

Review by:   Donna M,    June 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Muir Woods and Sausalito were very nice, but the Bay Cruise portion was not what I would call a Bay Cruise with any sort of narration, rather just the general ferry back to Fisherman's Wharf. In addition, nor the agents who checked us in nor the tour guide even explained the ferry portion and that we had a choice to ferry or bus ride back. It was really disorganized in that area, but the rest of it was lovely and enjoyable.

This was the by far the worst tour experience I've had. _br/_ 1 Our pickup shuttle arrived twenty minutes late._br/_ 2 We had to wait in the rain to check in for the tour. This was a long line and took at least 30 minutes_br/_ 3 After checking in we had to wait another 30 minutes in the rain for the actual tour bus. _br/_ 4 No one, and I mean no one, with Gray Line tour company seemed to know what was going on. I spoke with six different staff members who all had a different answer as to where our bus was and when we should be picked up. Eventually someone pulled an extra bus to take us to our first destination, Sausalito._br/_ 5 At Sausalito we had to wait another 30 minutes for the vans to take people to Muir Woods. Not enough time to explore Sausalito, but enough to explore the wonderful parking lot there. _br/_ 6 This has to be the worst part...Gray line didn't have enough seats to take our group to Muir Woods with three large vans. The situation quickly turned into a first come first serve race to grab a seat once us on the tour found out. We had to leave four very angry individuals behind. The van drivers were no help, only saying they were simply drivers and they would return in an hour. _br/_ 7 Due to all the delays/waiting several people on our tour could only spend an hour at Muir Woods before needing to head to Alcatraz another option Gray line offered instead of the Bay Cruise._br/_ 8 Upon returning to Sausalito from Muir Woods we got to eat lunch and head to the parking lot to take the next shuttle at the time we were told._br/_ 9 When we made it to the parking lot there was a Gray line shuttle parked in a handicap parking spot, but it wasn't for us. Apparently it was the woman's break and she was just stopped there, in a handicap parking spot..._br/_ 10 The shuttle to take us to the Bay Cruise ended up being 40 minutes late._br/_ 11 The Bay Cruise was fine, but you can just get your own tickets for that. This tour company doesn't actually provide a tour. They simply provide transportation to and from locations and purchase the tickets for you._br/_ 12 Do yourself a favor and avoid this like the plague. I will never use them again.

It was ok until the last part of the tour whereby my wife, daughter and I three of us missed the Bay Cruise when we were dropped off at Fisherman and #39;s Wharf. We were really disappointed as your tour itinerary oversight the schedule of the Bay cruise!

Sites: nice; tour logistics: disappointing. Soil conditions meant vans, not buses, with 3-4 adults in each bench seat: very squished. Vents didn and #39;t work well in the back. No mic, so couldn and #39;t hear guide. Under 1hr in Sausalito: found nearest lunch cafe; nothing else. Had to walk and find way to cruise.

This was a great trip, but we didn't like that the driver told us we were going to spend less time in Muir Woods so one family could get back in time for another tour. That made the rest of us feel like we weren't getting the trip we paid for.

The bus driver was pretty funny, kept us entertained as he drove through Fisherman's Wharf, across the Golden Gate Bridge, and through Marin County on our way to Muir Woods. The forest was beautiful. Don't think I've ever found a more peaceful, awe-inspiring, spectacular place in my life. Only had an hour or so there, could have spent the entire day. We next went to Sausalito and then I took a ferry back to the city.

Loved getting outside of San Francisco to two lovely places. The redwoods of Muir Woods are a sight to see and Sausalito was a quaint town to visit, although many places were closed due to Thanksgiving. It was a sunny day so the bay cruise was fantastic and we were able to see the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz on a clear day.

Tour was good but we definitely needed a little more time at both stops. 45 minutes was not long enough for my family in Muir Woods or Sausalito. Turns out the Bay Cruise is not actually part of the package and is operated by another company. The tour bus just dropped us of a couple blocks from the boat dock. We had to get further information form the bus driver and the make our own way back to the tour office after the boat cruise. I would recommend doing the cruise separately and spending more time in the first two locations.

What an incredible tour, the beautiful Muir Woods, the town of Sausalito and the Bay Cruise. The driver of the bus should not talk so much as the hike has real dangers and he should avoid talking so much about himself and the stereotypical stories he narrated.

Let's see. We found the sites themselves to be worthwhile Muir Woods, Sausalito, Bay Cruise but the GrayLine company that did the tour and the information we received from Viator prior to the tour to be lacking on both counts.

It wasn and #39;t worth it waking up at 7 to leave at 8:10 most of it in the bus the driver was cool and funny, and only 1 hour in the woods is not enough, when we reached our final destination the trip was just too short! And it wasn and #39;t a small group we were like 30 or more. Overall bad experience
