Tonle Sap Cruise Small-Group Tour

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Discover Siem Reap's secrets by remork (Cambodian tuk tuk) on a half-day, small-group tour. Take a boat trip on the Tonle Sap lake through floating and stilted villages. See seasonal agricultural activities of rice planting and harvesting, making fish paste, duck farming and cricket catching! Explore a local village, where you will sample Cambodian snacks and visit a Buddist monastery

Travel by remork (tuk-tuk) through the outskirts of Siem Reap to the Tonle Sap Lake. Board your boat and cruise through Tonle Sap, observing life on the lake as you travel past floating fishing villages that have their own schools, shops, hospitals and even crocodile farms!

The lake is home to rare and endangered water birds and is unique for its flow of water, which changes direction twice a year. With the change in seasons, the lake has the ability to expand and shrink dramatically. At the height of the wet season, the lake can be more than 7,400 square miles (12,000 square kilometers) and provides half of the fish supply for Cambodia.

On the return journey to Siem Reap, take the back roads into town and get a glimpse of daily rural activities, such as rice planting and harvesting, duck farming, and making the popular but smelly fish paste. Stop at a local Buddhist temple, chat with the villagers and try the local snacks.

Vantha was our guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and informative about culture related to the market and the population living on Tonle Sap Lake. He chose different and delicious samples of Cambodian snacks and fruits for us to taste. Such an eye opening tour to see how other people live and truly a memory that will never be forgotten. This tour was just incredible all around. Very good experience for my 10 year old daughter and I. Highly recommended.

Highly recommend. Lovely to see the floating villages, learn more about Cambodia from a perspective a book can't give you, and have the experience at the guidance of a wonderful, kind and intelligent guide.

The contact number on the tickets didn't work. Couldn't get hold of the supplier and neither could the hotel.

Fascinating part of the world. Interesting to see lifestyle on and near the water in this extraordinary country.

We booked the tour out to Me-Chrey floating village on the edge of the Tonle Sap with Viator. They contracted Urban Adventures to run the trip. We did the half-day tour, which for Me-Chrey was about right, and we found the whole experience remarkable and memorable. Cruising gently through the village we were amazed as westerners how the villagers lived. It certainly made an impact and we would highly recommend this tour. There was a downside, however. We travelled out to the boat pick-up point by tuk tuk. This allowed us to immerse ourselves in the countryside we passed through, but it was very dusty, bumpy and windy. On balance, it added to the experience, but be prepared a scarf and sunglasses are a must. Sadly our tuk tuk driver blew his horn at every vehicle he overtook, every junction, and anything else he saw fit to warn, which was probably as necessary as it was tedious. The other aspect was our boat, which had a most noisy and exposed engine and pretty much rendered conversation difficult if not impossible. That said, it was still a great tour, and as we cruised out to the village we enjoyed all the river life we passed, and the egrets and storks overhead. Our guide said Urban Adventures aim to encourage tourists to experience local life. On this trip they certainly did that.

The people living there DONT WANT TOURISM. I did not know before but the guide did those people feel like in a circus, they get nothing of the money you pay the company . Cruel!

The tour was great! we visited floating village in November and got the chance to see the every day life of people living there. On our way back our tour guide took 3 stops to show us local snacks. It would be great if we could also pop in to one of the crocodile farms.

This ended up being a solo tour, with just the guide and I and it was great! He took me to a couple extra places and was very helpful!

We travelled to the lake with our guide ,Van in a tuk tuk along some lovely countryside. Our driver was good, managing city traffic and then very bumpy county roads. The floating village was interesting, almost felt like we were intruding into their world, however it was nice to listen to village life when our boat stopped for a short time. Loved seeing the children having fun in the river. On our return tuk tuk ride, Van took us to a small village to enjoy some local sweets. Yum indeed. Throughly enjoyed this half day tour.

The tour is great. Our tour guide, Mr. Vantha, was outstanding and his English level and pronunciation was superb. We had no trouble understanding him. Pick up was smooth and on time, Remork Tuk Tuk was initial mode of transport to a local market, some food tasting, then a Buddhist Temple, then the boat on a brown water river to the lake. The tour was awesome. HOWEVER, Viator is charging a premium for this tour and all their tours. You can easily book this same tour via a local Cambodia tour group on line, or just wet until you arrive there. There are small tour retailer booth type boxes all over. They offer some good deals.

This was a very interesting tour and our guide De was the best we had for our whole holiday. Her english was excellent and she had virtually no accent. The tour was great being picked up in tuk tuk and taken to the port where we had a boat trip on the river and passed many buildings on stilts and then a fishing village with boats living on the river. All in all an excellent tour highly recommended.

Fantastic way of gaining an insight into Cambodian life. A particular highlight was visiting a floating village on Lake Tonle Sap and the local market was a real eye opener. Thanks to Vanny for a fantastic job as out guide, very knowledgeable.

Maybe a little longer tour on the boat across Tonle Sap Lake, as this tour barely goes into the lake entrance and then returns. All in all a worthwhile trip.

Great tour could have been a bit longer especially cruising on Tonle Sap Lake which felt kind of short. Overall a nice tour, gives a good insight into how the locals live around the lake.

This tour I found disappointing. We did not get to see much of the lake, but this is possibly dew to the low level of the lake. It was interesting to see the daily lives of the lake people, especially the small school children manning long tailed boats after school on their way home. The seating on our boat was uncomfortable. A cushion on each seat would have made a huge difference.

It's a bit of a bone shattering hike by tuk tuk down the dusty unmade roads but you do see real village life along the way, fascinating! A boat then took us up the canals into the huge lake and floating villages. Obviously some tourists but this is a real working village. A great experience. Highly recommended and quite a relief from all the wonderful temple hikes!

I didn't expect too much of this half day tour indeed the publicity undersells it. In the event it was an outstanding tour. On time pick up and an excellent guide. Fun tuk-tuk ride followed by a visit to a village, school and wet market. The lotus fields were outstanding and the trip on the lake matched it. Back at the hotel by lunctime - fantastic

Worth seeing how the locals live on the lake, go to school an the lake and do everything while afloat. Our Tuk-tuk driver got us a face mask, which was useful on the dusty roads near the lake.

Thankfully this tour was scheduled for our last day in Siem Reap. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, so was the tuk tuk driver. The agent did not reply to my email requesting for pick up from the hotel, but we got our hotel reception to ring up the day before to confirm. The tour began with a tour to the wet market. As it was a Sunday, it was heaving and we got the full insight of a wet market in rural Siem Reap followed by a monastery walk around. I got a little bored as I had already seen a wet market in Siem Reap and a monastery on another tour before. _br/_ On our way to the ferry terminal, we stopped by the Lotus farm, now that was interesting. _br/_ Cruising on the Tonle Sap River was underwhelming, floating houses etc and stopped by a crocodile tired looking! farm and a separate pen of fish. The shopping area and the restaurant area on the 'kelong' were much larger than the crocodile and fish pen. There was also a small python which a little girl 4/5 yo who lives on the kelong I presume- was allowed to handle. WAsted a lot of time there too._br/_ On the return leg back to the hotel, we stopped at a salted fish producing house._br/_ The tour could have just been 2 hours long - just the cruise and lotus farm visit. The rest were unnecessarily included to stretch the duration of the tour.

WOnderful family outing for us! We loved visiting other parts of Siem Reap and their markets with our guide who had us discover many new local fruits and rice delicacies. We then continued on in the rickshaws to the boats to visit the villages on the lake. This was wonderful to see We stopped at one point at a little tourist spot and our guide showed us the crocodiles and other local animals life.. It was really nice. He had us sit down and have a fresh coconut juice that he had arranged at a table. He was a great guide, Kim, and really treated us to everything. Highly recommend this outing!

This was a highlight of our Cambodia experience. Guide took us to such interesting places that we felt more like a visitor than a tourist. I would highly recommend this tour.

We were only two turist and that was good. The motor of the boat had a brok down, but that gave us time to see the ordinary tings with the people, children, working. Something good hours.

The trip is interesting for viewing. The tour guide was nice, but I have found in Cambodia especially that guide means more of get you from point A to point B and less of a full history/cultural ambassador. That being said, he was really nice, spoke great English and was happy to answer questions. The tour is kind of just sitting in a tuk tuk and seeing the country side and then a boat ride. Definitely neat, but it is nothing more than that really. I think the Viator booking was a bit weird too because it confirmed me, but then did not tell me the pick-up time and said something about my needing to contact the local tour company or arrange my own transportation. Trust me, you can't easily arrange your own transportation and that is basically all this trip is so that made no sense. I had to call the local operator myself and was super confused.

Wonderful insight into Cambodian life, culture, and people. Transportation to and from hotel, as well as the village and lake tour, was punctual and comfortable. Dee, our guide, was knowledgeable, spoke good English and had a good repartee with our group as well as the kind and gentle Cambodian people we met and interacted with, along the way. Substantively, an eye-opening and much appreciated window into a country emerging from a very challenging past. I would do it again, and recommend it to others, without reservation. You should be grateful for what you have. I can not describe how poor these Cambodian people are. They live in cottages made of bamboo, floating on Tonle Sap Fresh water lake. Lake water is used to cook, drink and bath. Lake is also used as sewage!! This is real Survivor my friends. Must see.

Very enjoyable tour.i think people should be aware of the amount of time spent in a tuc tuc on dirt road, inhaling a LOT of dust!lovely way to see the countryside. Not so sure about the Cambodian treats at the side of the road

The staff on this tour was great, they were on time and very professional. But there isn't that much to look at on the lake itself. It's very flat so there aren't many features or even many birds. But if you like just the quiet serenity, then you might like this.

This was an outstanding tour. Our guide, Vanny, was what made it as good as it was. He was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and gracious. The tuk tuk was clean and the driver was conscientious and timely. Vanny went the extra mile when we had lost an important document. He helped us to find it when it was above and beyond his job. Of all the tours we did on this trip many, Vanny was the best. The lake is an important part of the culture of Cambodia, and any visitor would benefit from seeing it and the people who live there. The stops along the way market, roadside snack vendors, duck farm, etc, are all very good parts of the tour. We give the tour an A and Vanny and A.

It was fun travelling via TuK Tuk but a bit dusty and bumpy. It was confronting in many ways. The river people live very basic lives and suffer great hardships. You need to be prepared for that. The boat itself was very uncomfortable. If you have any mobility issues take warning. There is a 3 foot hike to the prow, never mind getting off onto a very rickety dock. I would not recommend this tour.
