Taipei Half-Day City Tour

Taipei, Taiwan

Get a glimpse of Taipei on this three-hour tour. See how the people live in this interesting city. Visit Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, Martyrs's Shrine, a classic Ming Dynasty architecture and later onto the National Palace Museum. Conclude with a visit to a Handicraft Center to view typical Taiwanese craftsmanship.

You'll be picked up from your Taipei city hotel and guided around Taipei's best attractions. Visit the grandiose Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, in downtown Taipei to pay homage to the late President Chiang Kai-Shek. Travel to Martyrs' Shrine to see an excellent example of classical Ming Dynasty architecture dedicated to the fallen war heroes of the country and see the hourly changing of the guard ceremony.

The three-hour Taipei tour continues to the National Palace Museum, which houses the world's largest and most valuable collection of Chinese art treasures. There are permanent displays of ceramics, bronzes, oracle bones, porcelain, paintings, calligraphy, enamelware, jade, Ching dynasty costume, carvings, and cabinets, as well as temporary exhibitions of other items.

Travel to one of the many traditional Chinese temples that surround Taipei city. Then it's time for some shopping at the Handicraft Center, the center offers Taiwanese craftsmanship including jewelry, art and furniture.

Our tour guy, Bond was very knowledgeable about the city and was able to answer any questions the group had. We zipped around for a quick 3 hr tour, hitting the highlights at the National Palace Museum including the jade cabbage. All in all, it was a great half day with 4 kids in tow.

I had a really good time on this tour, the tour guide and driver was really good, they took care of us small group really well. There was only 3 of us, very lucky little group. It rained a little during the tour and they still able to take us around. I would recommend this tour.

The guide was very talkative and informative. There is a lot of walking so be prepared. Great guide. I think his name was Denny. Worth the price.

A nice mix of activities but we still don't know the name of the temple we saw! Well run but would have enjoyed spending more time at the museum instead of the expensive handicraft market...

Well organised trip that takes in the important Taiwanese buildings and architecture including Shrines, and a Memorial Hall. The guide ensured the group saw changing of guards at 2 separate stops which was a treat. There was lots of free time at the national museum and the guide provided key information on various Dynasties.

Review by:   Marshall B,    December 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The few stops we made were so rushed we could hardly enjoy them or take in all of the history behind them. While we knew this was just an overview of the city, if we did not have to spend almost an hour picking up other passengers at hotels far from ours we could have spent more time at each site. Our guide was so busy helping one of the passengers with some problems they were having with money, phone calls, etc. he ignored the rest us while doing so. We have been on other Viatour tours and they have been wonderful 5 star experiences, but, this one and the Gorge trip did not meet up to your usual standards.

It was an excellent way to see the most popular Taipei sights in just half a day. Our tour guide was excellent...he was funny and friendly.

I realize the tour was short, but I would have loved more time in the museum especially instead of the store we were brought to for shopping. I would have also appreciated less importance put on the changing of the guard ceremonies I saw 2. I didn't understand the significance, and had so little time that I felt rushed everywhere. Perhaps 1 less stop and just more time at the bigger places museum would have been more enjoyable._br/_ I did have the chance to eat the 'beef noodle soup' as suggested by my guide later at a restaurant, and it was quite delicious.

This was a great way to get to know Taipei and the different areas. The tour guide gave us great history and information. The van was very comfortable. The only thing I would change is the stop at the craft market. It was not a market but a little store that felt a kind of shady. There are plenty of night markets and other types of markets full of locals, great food and some decent shopping all around the city. Any one of these would be preferable. Other than that, I would recommend this tour for first-time visitors to Taipei.

It was a great tour and friendly guide, though at times things did feel a bit rushed, and we stayed at some places much longer than I felt was necessary such as the Handicraft Center. But overall, it was a worthwhile tour to get acquainted with the city.

Although not horrible, I would not necessarily recommend this tour. The two gentleman who escorted you from site to site, although very nice, provided very little information about the sites we visited. They essentially dropped you off and told you when to be back to the minivan. You have very little time at each site, maybe 15-20 minutes. It was very rushed. Including the visit to the museum. You are also taken to a gift shop that is described as Handicraft Center for a fascinating look at age-old Taiwanese crafts. It is essentially a tourist trap filled with low quality items. The shop owners try to pressure you a bit to buy something. When I expressed an interest in their jade statuettes, a gentleman from Shanghai who was also on the tour, cautioned me that they were not real jade.

Good highlights to see, and the guide explained well and was very accommodating of us. The shop we stopped at was excellent with very good prices. If it hadn't been our first hour in Taiwan, we would have known that. It would be handy if the shop gave their information cards so we could find them again. Thanks for the tour!

Executed very smoothly. Friendly, pleasant guide. Not encyclopedic, but engaged well in Q and A. Half day tour was a comfortable, fun, effective way to get a quick orientation and dose of history. Would definitely do this sort of tour again.

Good tour guide and experience overall. Only complaint is the short time spent at the National Museum. However, it was the last stop and we were given the option to stay for as long as we want. We just had to get transportation back to our hotel. Overall, recommend the tour.

This is just a right package for those with short stay in Taipei and yet are willing to get a nice bird's eye view of the top spots in the city. I would recommend it to family and friends. The sequence was likewise good, putting the walk to the Chiang Kai Chek first to enjoy the early morning stroll while all other places were still closed, and putting the Memorial Museum at the last in case others would prefer to stay and linger. There were other spots along the way where we would have appreciated the tour guide providing insights about them. Likewise, we found the must-stop why? handicraft store selling overpriced items.

This tour was a helpful insight to Taipei. We were a little disappointed however with the lack of a hotel pickup due to location. Most of the sights we could have just seen for ourselves if we were staying in the location of the pickups offered.

Good tour guide, comfortable ride. I'd however omit the souvenir shop and stay longer at the National Palace Museum. All in all worth doing, especially if you have only one day to do as much as possible in Taipei.

Excellent tour guide! He's so great, shared all his wisdom with us regarding Taiwanese history and culture. This was a great tour if you like something that will give you knowledge, see some major sites and not spend all day. The changing of guards, National Museum you will see specific works there.

Locations he took us were good, but too short. When called to confirm tour start time they gave me a time 1.25 hr later than stated the tour would start. Also stopped at a state gift shop -which was not worth it.

Our tour guide, Walter keeps rushing us. We only took 5 minutes in the Chang Kai Shek Memorial Hall. He did not even took us to some areas inside the Chang Kai Shek that was worth seeing. I think the company should change their name from Happy Travels to Rush Travels

For a half day tour this is pretty good. I was on a layover for a flight and decided to head out to the city to get a feel for it. This is like a private tour, we only had 4 people total so it felt pretty cool. Of course, there is the obligatory tea stop in a jewelry but they had some cool stuff for every budget.

Its worth doing if you are going to tour other parts of the city too, as it doesn't include markets or Taipei 101 or few other big sites.

Driver was late picking me up which meant we missed the changing of the guard. The Martyrs Shrine was closed for the day but they took us there anyway instead of staying at the Memorial for the next changing of the guard. The Handicraft Center was one small shop but I did buy a red coral necklace.

Great, but quick run thru all the best sights in Taipei. Great for families with small kids as the museum stops were short. Tour guide was very accommodating. Coach was a bit dated and smelled of smoke, but that was the only low point in a super tour!
