Mt Fuji, Lake Ashi and Bullet Train Day Trip from Tokyo

Tokyo, Japan

Discover some of Japan’s most famous highlights on a full-day guided tour from Tokyo. Travel to Mt Fuji’s bustling 5th Station and learn about the revered mountain. Continue to nearby Lake Ashi for a short boat cruise, followed by a ride on the Mt Komagatake Ropeway. Climb by aerial tram to the top of Mt Komagatake and get fantastic views of the Owakudani volcanic valley, Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji. Return to Tokyo by bullet train in the evening. Enjoy the ease of included transportation, entry fees and a knowledgeable guide.

After morning pickup at selected Tokyo hotels or Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal, relax as your deluxe coach cruises along a scenic 2.5-hour route to Mt Fuji Visitor Center. Learn about the history and geology of Japan’s highest mountain from your guide and the informational exhibits about the revered mountain. From the second floor observation deck, you can get great views of Mt Fuji on a clear day.

After seeing the Visitor Center, return to your coach and proceed to Mt Fuji’s 5th Station, located about halfway up the mountain at 7,545 feet (2,300m). Take in the shrines, torii gates and shops that sell souvenirs, along with views of Mt Fuji and the surrounding lakes (subject to weather conditions). Soak in the invigorating atmosphere of 5th Station; you might even spot some climbers preparing for their adventure. Then have time for lunch. You can choose the upgrade that includes a Japanese-style lunch, or have the option to buy your own meal.

After having a bite to eat, drive to nearby Lake Ashi, located in Hakone National Park. Step aboard your boat for a short cruise across the lake. Admire the spectacular scenery of pristine waters surrounded by Mt Komagatake, Mt Fuji and other mountains.

Disembark from the boat and head to the Mt Komagatake Ropeway, an aerial tram that takes you from the shores of Lake Ashi to the top of Mt Komagatake. Have time to walk around the mountain top and take in amazing views of Lake Ashi, the Owakudani volcanic valley and majestic Mt Fuji.

After visiting Hakone, transfer by coach to the evening bullet train (Shinkansen) for your return to Tokyo, where your guide will tell you how to get back to your hotel.

This tour also offer a discounted option with pickup at Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku for direct transfer to Mt Fuji without stopping at Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal. This Shinjuku direct departure option allows you to spend more time at Mt Fuji. Please select
"Tour+Lunch+Shinjuku Transfer" (Code: F800KP) at checkout for this option.

Please note: Views around Mt Fuji are always subject to weather conditions as mountain weather is notoriously unpredictable. Visibility tends to be better during the colder months, in the early morning and late evening.

I have taken this tour twice already, the first time I went alone and the second time with family. It was wonderful both times. The first time I went at the end of November and the second time end of September. I think the better time of the year is closer to the winter months because you can see Mt. Fuji capped in snow and it is more magical than without snow. I will post photos of both seasons to see the difference.

My husband and I visited Japan the last week of April and we had a great time on our tour. We where picked up/dropped off on time and our tour guides were very professional. We only saw a peak of Mt Fuji since it got really cloudy when we got to the top of the mountain. Once we got up there we saw some snow, rain, really heavy fog, and hail it was really fun. The view of lake Ashi from the top of Hakone was spectacular, and i enjoyed our ride back on the bullet train. I highly recommend this tour, you get your monies worth!

Yokiko was such a fun guide!! She shared so much about the Japanese culture with us on our ride out to Mt. Fuji. We definitely felt that this tour was the best way to see Mt. Fuji!

Exceptional. Trust me when I say going on this tour is easier than doing it yourself. Yes, it's pricey, but it is worth it and more. Hiro-san, our guide, was polite, funny and friendly. The mountain speaks for itself. The bus is huge and comfortable with great air con, and the trip itself was hassle free. Lunch was yummy, and we got to go up in a cable cart to see Mt Fuji from a great view. Elderly people might struggle with some of the walks, but personally I can see any age doing this tour.

The information we learned on this day tour was excellent. We don't usually book group day tours, but we were pleasantly surprised with the professionalism and personality of our tour guide. Unfortunately, I neglected to note her name when she gave it to us at the beginning of the tour, otherwise, I would give her personal kudos for her service. I sent a request through Viator asking the tour service for her name but haven't received a reply. I am posting a picture of her in the event any other reviewer may identify her. It was a dreary, rainy day, from the time we left Tokyo all the way to Mt. Fuji. Apparently, it had snowed on top of the mountain on the day we had scheduled the tour, so although we got to Station 5, we never saw the summit. It was the same story for Hakone National Park and Mt. Komagatake. We took the gondola to the top, but thick fog and clouds kept us from seeing any of the surrounding views. If the guide hadn't been so good, the day would have been a complete washout. She was great! She even walked us to the gate for our return on the Shinkansen bullet train to Tokyo to make sure we got an earlier departure. Other than the weather, which was uncontrollable, I'd give the tour five stars.

The day we traveled to go see Mt. Fuji, we were unable to see Mt. Fuji due to heavy rain. BUT service was excellent. Food was delicious and riding the boat in Lake Ashi was memorable.

Our tour guide, Amy, was AMAZING! Knowledgeable, super friendly, helpful, entertaining, and her English was superb. Even though it was cloudy and rainy on the day we went, Amy managed to make the trip worth every minute. The tour locations and timing was ideal. Just wish it had been a beautiful sunny day in order to enjoy the beauty of Japan even more.

This trip was great. Travelling with two kids, it made our visit to Mt Fuji easy and comfortable. We were very fortunate to get clear skies and great views of Mt Fuji. There was some snow at the first stop which was a highlight for my kids who had never played in snow before. The lunch was excellent. Definitely bring warm clothes.

A Must Do when in Tokyo. Remember to wear warm clothes to MT Fuji and take heaps of photos. We took a photo from the top of Lake Ashi gondola looking back towards Mt Fuji which gave a great perspective.

Check the weather forecast before booking This day-trip itinerary is very subjective to the weather conditions on that particular day. While some of you will get lucky like me and get gorgeous views of Mt. Fuji, there is a good chance 50 I'd say that it's cloudy and you don't have a delightful experience - something completely out of control of the organising company. It's recommended that you check the weather forecasts and go on as bright/sunny a day as possible.

The best parts of this tour were the tour guide, the short cruise, and the meal. Per the description, enjoy time to take in views over Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji you can also take a short stroll along one of the walking trails at the mountain top this never happened. We were VERY rushed, and one of the main points for us was being able to stroll along the walking trails at the top of the mountain. If you're looking for a lazy day, and have kids/older people that don't want to do much walking, in your group, then this is the tour for you. If you're looking for adventure and want to explore I don't recommend this tour.

Had a great day trip. Bus had plenty of leg room. Weather was kind to us with great views of Mt Fuji. Lunch was so so, tempura chicken was cold but it must be hard getting so much food ready for 3-4 bus loads of people. Cruise on Lake Ashi was picturesque. Unfortunately we were in the clouds on the ropeway so couldnt see anything from the top. Bullet train trip went smoothly with our guide giving everyone a personalised guide to disembarking the train to catch our subway rides back to our various hotels.

We had a great trip to Mt Fuji_br/_ I was pleased to see Mt Fuji as I would not have been shocked if it was cloudy and the mountain was not even visible. they say its a shy mountain. We were lucky in that aspect, but our luck ran out as we approached Lake Ashi and the ropeway and visibility dropped to zero._br/_ We hade some new friends along the way-That's nice._br/_ I wish that there had been a little more information given about the mountain, etc. _br/_ Shinkansen was awesome!

We went on November21 and were so lucky to see mt Fuji clearly in a beautiful weather. Our tour guide (its been alwhile so I forgot her name ) provided interesting info about Japanese history and culture that helped shorten the long bus drive. She also speaks perfect English! Great tour!

Review by:   ANDY T,    December 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The trip is fine. 3rd time to Tokyo but first time to Mt Fuji. Cruise ride to Lake Ashi was awesome but maybe Dec is not a good time because Mt Fuji was just too shy, hiding behind a large blanket of clouds. Didnt make it to 5th station as it was closed due to snow. The guide was just alright. A little less than insightful. We didnt feel that it was value for money. The lunch was quite good though. In short, seems like a hit-and-miss affair for us - which i think we can seek better vicarious pleasure from postcards.

Perfect for a day trip from Tokyo to Mt Fuji. Nice to see some of the country via bus, a cruise, a spot of shopping, and to experience the bullet train.

Excellent tour. Very nice places to visit. I couldn't go to the real stop in Mt. Fuji because of the snow, but we could get close enough to the mountain. Besides that, the lunch was good and the tour guide was excellent. Totally recommend this tour!

I've done this trip twice, first time was during winter and a massive snow event, so I didn't get to see Mt Fuji, on my second attempt we had a perfect sunny day, the trip up to 5th station is long but worth it, I think the bus should stop once before going up as the view from the bottom is superb and a 5 minute stop for a photo would be worth it. There's not enough time at 5th station but it's a full day, I'd really like to see another 30 minutes and skip the ropeway, I've done that twice and neither time saw anything because of cloud, I'd much prefer to spend that time at 5th station - just a suggestion, Lake Ashi is ok but where you go for lunch is so much prettier, I would have preferred to stay there, do the river cruise and ropeway there, again just another suggestion, the weather seems much more reliable there.

This was a great trip, we scored a beautiful weather day, bright blue skies, and we got to the second highest point of Mt Fuji, the views were spectacular, the cruise on Lake Ashi only lasted about ten minutes and the ride on the Bullet Train was okay, I have my doubts that we travelled at the speed I expected as we were fairly close to Tokyo, also the tour guide told us to board at a certain carriage where they had unreserved seating, when we got on there were no seats!!!

It was a sunny day in Tokyo on the day of the tour. The bus trip was a little long to get to Mt Fuji. When we got there the sun was just above the mountain so picture taking was not too good. Dress warm when you go cause it is breezy and cold on the mountainside. Great view from the view point and has a great gift shop with lots to buy. Snack bar was good but a little slow. A very busy area so you will take home a lot of other visitors home with you in your photos. The lake boat ride is nice but wish it was a little longer. The train ride on the bullet train was deceiving, does not feel as fast as the speed it was going. Train is busy and seating is limited but maybe because it was rush hour and there were a lot of people going home from work. The good thing was it was a clear day on the mountain and many times it is overcast or cloudy or misty, so it was a good day.

Overall a great tour to experience it all in one day. Time schedule was tight. A bit more time at 5th station would have been good. Tour guide was great and bus trip comfortable. Again rushing to get back to Tokyo station, jumped on bullet train, to find seat, as no allocation. Bullet train was fabulous and a good way to experience it for the first time. A full on day, but worth it. Lucky to have a clear day and great vies of Mt Fuji

This package that you don't wanna miss, really great with knowledgeable tour guide and speaks English well. only down side is, hope this trip leaves Tokyo as early as 8am or 9am the most , so we have more time to explore and take pictures at the 4th station of mount fuji. Unfortunately 5th station was closed to public, it would have been a better view of mount fuji on the 5th station. but other than that 4th station is not really that bad. lunch was delicious, and the lake Ashi boat trip was nice. and even the ropeway was a great experience, its nice to see the mount fuji from another perspective although the clouds are not playing nice with us at some point but overall we still saw the beautiful mountain. maybe next time it will be nice to see and visit the mount fuji at early spring, probably less clouds will show up. the bullet train was amazing too

What a day! Its a full on trip that doesn't stop. But its excellent value for money when you include a fantastic lunch, boat trip, cable car ride and the bullet train. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and felt safe and comfortable on the bus all day. We were unlucky only getting to the 4th station, however, we got a multitude of angles throughout the day to get amazing photos.

The tour was good.. everything went on time. The guide was extremely helpful and eager to please. What can be improved? Standard explanations to be taped by a native English speaking person and played on the bus and leaving it to the guide to add details thus compensating for accent issues. The post on the web should also clearly indicate that the drop off point Tokyo station is not the same as the pick up point but the guide will ensure everyone gets on the right metro back to their area. this was a stressful thing throughout the day when i discovered it given the complexity of the Japanese system but the guide was exceptionally helpful and after explaining so many times as best as she can, she actually took each one of us to their platform at the Tokyo station. Also, the posting indicated Mt Fuji/lake Ashi while the tour name is actually Mt. Fuji/Hakone.. this also caused confusion in my mind. At the end, we had a good time. the best thing was the time on top of hakone mountain from which we could see mount Fuji and lunch in the lake area. I enjoyed them more than the actual ride up Mount Fuji we stopped at station 4. Maybe the lunch period can be extended to allow people to walk around the lake area. Thanks for a good trip.

The tour war amazing, but guide Take made it into a masterpiece._br/_ Even though we didn't had a chance to go up using a rope-way, everything was amazing._br/_ This tour gives you an opportunity to see a small towns surrounded by mountains and forests which was a blast._br/_ Overall, I would like to give a credit for guide Take one more time. Funny, smart, caring and knowledgeable people are always in demand, so thank you for providing the best quality tour which consisted of tasty lunch, beautiful views and curious, interesting tourists. 5 starts :

Although a hit or miss getting to see Mt Fuji, this tour is poorly advertised. The description sounds nice, but you’re actually given very little time to enjoy. 30 mins at 5th station, 15 min cruise, 45 mins lunch at a not very scenic place, then a ride on a ropeway packed like sardines! Waste of $!

Weather was terrible and the trip host tried to make the best of it, which he did admirably. Bullet train back to Tokyo was excellent. Pick up points where not clear so we ended up taking a taxi to the headquarters hotel at the last minute because the designated hotel was not a pick up point even though it was listed.

Review by:   Allison G,    November 2017 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
The lunch was good and was at a very scenic location. However it was over 90 minutes which really only needed 30 minutes to eat. _br/_ I felt the tour was very rushed. Every place we went seemed to be rushing and nearly cancelled the ropeway due to time constraints. _br/_ As someone who has been to Japan before, this seemed like a tour for someone only if it was their first time in Japan. We learned numbers 1-10 and how to say hello / goodbye. During the tour, we ended up rushing through the ferry and the ropeway with only 15 minutes to view shops. _br/_ The bullet train experience should have been discussed further as nearly everyone on the tour had no idea how to board the train or use the subway system.
