International Spy Museum

Washington D.C., United States of America

At Washington DC’s International Spy Museum, enter a world of gadgets, weapons, cameras, vehicles and technologies used for espionage throughout the world. Hear stories of secret missions, examine artifacts and mystery-revealing photos and enjoy a slew of interactive displays, putting you right in the action! Don't miss out on the newest exhibit, 'Exquisitely Evil: 50 Years of Bond Villains,' which celebrates fiction's greatest spy, James Bond.

When you arrive at DC’s International Spy Museum, adopt a cover identity and test out your spy skills as you browse artifacts, spy gadgets and mystery-revealing photos; plus, visual and audio presentations will teach you how to keep a cover!

Browse themed rooms, enjoy interactive activities and hear real stories about past spy missions. In the School For Spies™ gallery, trace more than 50 years of spy technology developed by agencies from the OSS to the KGB, some of which is still in use today.

Travel back through the centuries and uncover tales of famous men and women who unexpectedly doubled as undercover agents, such as Josephine Baker and Julia Child!

Through 2014, you can immerse yourself in the museum’s latest addition, ‘Exquisitely Evil: 50 Years of Bond Villains,’ commemorating 50 years of James Bond films. On display, see exclusive vehicles, props and costumes on loan from the original production company, many of which are on public display for the first time!
Wind through the maze of interactive exhibits such as ‘Spy vs. Spy,’ where outside visitors can lay traps to thwart the ‘spies’ within. Decode the riddles, test your bravery in a shark tank, or hold on for dear life at the ‘Hangtime’ display. You’ll also hear recounts of real spies that have had their share of real-life 'Bond moments'!
It's not all about Bond, though -- you can also learn about the hero's enemies. Get an in-depth historical context of Bond's adversaries and learn how they have changed over the years to reflect the times. Watch classic film clips, listen to interviews, and browse psychological profiles of the villains for a look at the famous series from a different angle.

Great tour with a child. My granddaughter age 10 and I visited this museum in March 2018. We had a wonderful time, held her interest the entire time we were there.

What a fantastic wealth of information! My 21 year old daughter, our friends and I all had a great time here. You learn SO MUCH about the spy business and plenty of hands on exhibits to have fun with. Its a MUST DO in D.C.!

Very good place for your kids and maybe you to spend 2-3 hours. Lot of interactive exhibitions and interesting materials. The only negative is cost - adult with 2 kids under 12 is 49 from Viator and 55 at the door.

My daughter, who is 17, and I had a great time at the spy museum. We listened to the headphones, climbed thru the tunnel as quiet as possible and had a great time doing it. It was fun to watch her jump as the shark swam at her. Great time.

A lil small and confusing lay out. Excited to see the bigger museum in 2018. Items in Shop are interesting.

Maybe the rain forced everyone inside, but this was a super 3 hours for many folks. Adults and the kids were engrossed in the interactive portions of many of the exhibits. Leave plenty of time to play.

International Spy Museum is a must see attraction in Washington DC, was what our Hop on Hop off tour guide told us. So we decided to visit even though it has general admission fee of 21.95 per person. when i tried to book on line, it showed fully booked for that day. I booked it through Viator helpline and got tickets for same day with discount for 19.5. Our overall experience of the exhibits and activities undertaken at Spy museum was nowhere close to satisfactory even. The reception asked to shom my voucher which i could not open since there was no WiFi there and my mobile did not have net connectivity, It is frustrating to see no wifi provided in today's times which is available in all other museums with free entry. _br/_ initial briefing and conduct with the groups by the museum staff was extremely casual and we were sort of left to our own self guided tour. they asked us to assume some spy identity but thereafter nothing much happened except at the exit when they asked you some questions and based on the answers given you were either allowed to exit or asked to give up._br/_ one whole floor is devoted to James Bond, which is a waste of time, and neither entertaining nor educative._br/_ Food /drinks are not allowed to be taken with you and most visitors who carry foodstuff are not provided with any space inside where one can eat own food with dignity. we had to go out and eat on the pavement._br/_ when we asked what about the activities as spy tasks? they said you can undertake those by paying 15 each for those activities, and they have four such activities. They appeared neither interested in providing further information about the additional paid activities nor they seemed to care if we would take those or just leave._br/_ I keep feeling why are they charging 21.5 for this museum? in Washington dc there are so many world class museums which are free, and yet we did not have time to visit all of them. I regret i wasted my money and time visiting International Spy museum. I could have visited any other museum on National Mall and felt better._br/_ Final verdict: DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY BY VISITING INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM.

My husband and I took our boys, ages 10 and 7, to see this attraction, and I would rate it as fine, but it was not spectacular. We went on a Saturday -- our only opportunity during our trip, so another day might have been better -- and it was very crowded. One good thing about Viator: I had printed off the tickets but forgotten them in the hotel room, but the museum was able to redeem them via my phone AND we were able to skip that line. When we entered the museum, after getting the tix, there was a long line to the one elevator that takes you to the first stop in the tour. We waited approximately 25 minutes in that line. The first two stops were somewhat interesting and somewhat guided, and you got the sense that the rest of the tour would be similarly guided, but not so. What followed was a series of rooms where we constantly had to make sure we didn't lose our kids full of spy stuff. The kids enjoyed it somewhat, but overall the visit turned out to be too much at one time and yet not enough. I don't mean to sound negative, because it was interesting, but I would recommend visiting the museum at a nonbusy time when you have time to really look at the items without the masses of people around.

An amazing place for kids over 7years as well as adults. The history of espionage is well captured and displayed. the section devoted to James Bond and its exhibits are a treat to all Bond fans

Review by:   dasirkin,    August 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
I wish I had purchased this tour directly at the museum instead of through Viator. When I purchased the tickets I was not aware that there were additional options that could be purchased for Spy Experiences - and I had in fact only purchased the general admission tickets. So when we arrived at the spy museum at 11 am we found out about these additional activities that my kids REALLY wanted to do and we were told we would need to purchase these Spy Experiences separately which was more money than buying the combo ticket directly from the International Spy Museum would have been and also we would have needed to pre-book a time slot and the only times available were for much later in the day when we had other activities planned. So while my kids thought the museum was ok, they really wanted to have the Spy Experience that we were unable do when we wanted because we had not booked in advance with the right activities. It would have been really nice if Viator had advised us of these facts.

We brought a 13 year old and a 9 year old. They had a blast. They were running ahead to check out all the displays. There's interactive stuff too that was fun for them. It wasn't too crowded so we could take out time. And the gift shop is GREAT!

Overall this was a fun museum, but due to the size of the crowd, it was hard to fully enjoy the experience. I see that they are moving to a much larger location. No doubt that will be a positive move!

Excellent for kids. Unfortunately the experience was not as good as it could have been due to the hoards of people inside on the day we visited, meaning we couldn't get near the interactive machines and therefore couldn't get the full experience. Would maybe be better if the museum allocated time slots and monitored the amount of people at any one time to allow everyone the full experience.

While the Museum had some interesting historical details, which may appeal to adults, it mainly had items, visuals, activities which would be best for children to enjoy. The price seems a little high individually, unless you're extremely interested in spy artifacts, but decent if purchasing the combo.

We thought the 11 year old would like this but he thought it was boring. My daughter didn't seem that interested either but she hsd to deal with the bored child. I liked it and would have liked to have been able to spend more time. Family had enjoyed it and recommended it.

The Spy Museum itself was very interesting and my four grandchildren enjoyed it very much. I was disappointed with purchasing tickets through you for two reasons. There was no information on your website for the Spy Experience interactive part of the museum. also, I purchase four ticket for the grandchildren one of them being only 6 years old. I should not have paid for that child. your website was not clear on that point. Next time I will probably go directly to the website for whatever I am purchasing ticket for.

We were looking for something new to do in DC having visited many times in the past. We thought the Spy Museum sounded fun. We were 3 adults. The museum was interesting, but would have been more enjoyable if less people were allowed in at a time.
