Mount Vernon Admission Ticket

Washington D.C., United States of America

Visit George Washington's Mount Vernon and take a self-guided tour of the first American president’s historic estate. You can stroll through the 18th-century gardens and grounds; check out the gristmill and whiskey distillery (open April - Oct); explore the elegant mansion and Washington family tombs; and see short films and interactive exhibits on display at the museum. Select from multiple mansion-viewing times to suit your schedule.

Mount Vernon — once home to the United States' first president, George Washington — is located just outside Washington, DC. With your admission ticket, you may spend as long as you'd like there on a visit that includes the mansion (most visitors spend at least three hours at Mount Vernon). Your time at the estate is flexible except for entering the mansion, which is done at preselected time slots; choose a specific time when booking.

When you arrive, exchange your Viator voucher for a ticket and then, while in the Ford Orientation Center watch an introductory film that presents a historical overview of key points in Washington’s life. Visit the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center to see a collection of more than 700 objects, including Washington's dentures, and immerse yourself in the Revolutionary War 4D theater, where cannons make the seats rumble and snow falls, to learn more about Washington's leadership during the war for American Independence.

Take a complimentary shuttle to Washington's merchant gristmill and the whiskey distillery (open from April through October), which both generated substantial profits for the Virginia gentleman farmer. You can also explore the Pioneer Farm a five-acre site where Washington's progressive farming practices came to life and walk among the English-style garden and grounds. Be sure to pay homage to the president and first lady at the Washington Tomb.

At your prebooked time, head to the mansion, an iconic, red-roofed residence that began as a modest farmhouse in 1735. Admire the architectural features and design of the now-resplendent 21-room home. Time inside the mansion is typically 15 to 35 minutes.

Nice to freely roam the property. The house tour was well done with access to individuals throughout the house to answer questions and give commentary. There is so much to see both indoors museum/tour center and around the massive grounds - can't take it in in one visit.

We really enjoyed our tour of Mt. Vernon, VA. The grounds around the mansion are more extensive than I thought. The Museum and Education Center was very interesting. I would love to return and learn more about George Washington's life and political influences. We didn't have time to visit the distillery and gristmill. It would be interesting to take special tours around the mansion and the farms. Very glad we had several hours to spend there.

This was a great tour of the home of George Washington. Highly recommend it for families with older kids 8 years old or older.

The guides were well organized to deal with the crowd visiting Washington's home

Normal tour of mansion and then time on your own to explore the rest of the grounds. An overall enjoyable day learning about our first president and his life at Mount Vernon.

This was our first use of Viator and it certainly did save us a few dollars for a family of 5. At the time of our visit was one of the hotter days of the summer. The garden area was nice and shaded. Do take the time to talk with the reenactors on the grounds. Mt Vernon was under scaffolding while there but still enjoyed the tour and the grounds. Be prepared for lots of walking if you want to do everything.

Great trip - although it had been 15 degrees cooler. We plan to go back and take some of the other tours offered possibly the cruise. The only thing I wish is that each of the tour guides would have expanded their talk to another minute or two. I did feel like we were rushed through the mansion just a tad.

House worth seeing but we had poor weather so unable to appreciate the views over the river

A beautiful, historic place. But more should be articulated there about the fact that it was built and operated on the backs of enslaved Africans. The US is still not coming to terms with its criminal past of slavery in the South.

I loved every moment of my tour. So amazing! There is one thing that might help and that is to better explain the tour on where you start and better marking the trail but other then that it was a dream come true!!

It was outstanding. The only bad thing was the rain. Oh well, I enjoy it anyway.

It was interesting but disappointed cause the outside of the mansion wasn't in its originaors and the outside was being renovated.
