Visit the Whistler Blackcomb Mountain for this 2.5-hour glacier glissading experience. With a guide, discover the history of a 10,000+ year old glacier and enjoy the thrills of glissading. This tour includes all necessary equipment and is limited to a small group of 8 travelers.
Begin this tour by taking the 30-minute ride on the Whistler Gondola (own expense) to the departure location on the mountain top prior to your chosen departure time. Once you arrive and meet your guide, you will be outfitted with hiking boots, a helmet, and an ice axe, to be used mainly as a walking stick along the way. Take a short walk to the 10,000+ year old glacier through the alpine terrain.
Discover the beautiful flora and fauna and learn about glacial formation along the way, like striated glacier polished slabs, colourful flowers that forge soil recently freed by glacial recession, a cracked glacial erratic, and even the whistle of a Whistler marmot. See a cirque glacier, thus putting you in the middle of a natural amphitheater surrounded by craggy ridges and peaks.
Once you reach the glacier, your guide will lead you up a gentle slope, making easy snow steps for you to follow. Arriving atop a natural rise in the glacier, many glissading options exist on the same slope. Choose either a gentle glissade or a more adventurous slide down. Most choose a steeper, faster run! This activity combines sliding down a slide and gliding through snow on a toboggan.
No experience is necessary to participate. Your tour will end by the roundhouse on Whistler Blackcomb Mountain.
