Hawaii Volcano Eco-Adventure Day Trip from Oahu

Oahu, United States of America

Fly from Oahu to Hawaii for a full-day tour that showcases the Big Island's spectacular natural splendors, including the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Rainbow Falls near Hilo. Travel by minivan as you take in sights such as volcanic steam vents, possible lava flows, Thurston Lava Tube, native rainforest and a black-sand beach. Learn from your expert guide about the Big Island's volcano-fueled ecosystem and see one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Includes round-trip flight and all transportation.

Your day begins with morning pickup at your Oahu hotel and a transfer to the airport for your 45-minute flight to Hawaii’s Big Island. After a local guide meets you at the airport, set off in a deluxe air-conditioned minivan to explore the Big Island.

Your guide introduces you to Hilo town as you drive down Banyan Drive, lined with banyan trees that were planted by celebrities such as Amelia Earhart. Pass Liluokalani Gardens, a large Japanese-style botanic garden named after Hawaii's last reigning monarch.

Continue to a beach with black sands formed by pulverized lava rock, before exploring a macadamia nut farm and orchid nursery. Then stop at Wailuku River State Park to see gorgeous Rainbow Falls, a waterfall that drops 80 feet (24 meters) into a large pool surrounded with lush vegetation.

After you take a break at a local restaurant where you can purchase lunch, drive about one hour to reach Volcanoes National Park.

At the World Heritage-listed park, soak up breathtaking views of the immense Kilauea Caldera and the Halemaumau crater that lies within it. Watch as volcanic steam vents release plumes of sulfur dioxide across the caldera floor. Look for recent volcanic activity in the ever-changing landscape around two of the world’s most active volcanoes, Kilauea and Mauna Loa. Your guide is sure to point out any surface lava as it flows downstream toward the sea — a thrilling, but not guaranteed, event.
Take an easy walk on a path through lush native rainforest to reach the Thurston Lava Tube. You can even enter the illuminated, 600-foot-long (183-meter) tube, which was formed centuries ago by a river of molten lava.

Throughout your visit, learn about Hawaii’s volcanoes from your guide and while browsing the excellent displays at the Jaggar Museum, located in the national park. At the end of an amazing day, return to the airport to catch your flight back to Oahu.

Great trip! Our guide was excellent and so helpful! He knew just where to find sea turtles and helped me walk across the rocks to see one up close. The volcanoes are quite a sight! Be sure to take a jacket along as it gets cold.

Absolute must for the Hawaiian Tourist. Its very rare to see a live Volcano from such a short distance. I put this as the First Attraction and Pearl Harbour Tour as Second, Waikiki Beach at Honolulu at Third.

This was a great tour. YB was a great guide. However, there were 5 of us at the beginning and we could have seen so much more if we had to wait around the airport for so long and not been dropped off at the Big Island Candies for over and hour waiting on him to go back to the airport to get another group who went on a helicopter tour while we were waiting doing nothing. But the rest of the tour was amazing. The waterfalls and volcanoes were incredible!

We were not prepared for the cold and rain. Our guide was great despite the bad weather. Did not feel we got our money's worth. The food we awful. If it were not for our guide the trip would have been a bust but he did a great job.
