Prague Small-Group Day Trip: Elbe Sandstones Natural Reservation Including Elbe Canyon and Bastei Sa

Once you are comfortably picked up at your hotel, you will leave Prague in a small group of 1-8 people. En-route, your tour guide will point out natural landmarks you are passing during this 2 hrs drive and introduce you to the Czech countryside.

Your first stop will be the "Tisa rocks" national natural monument, located at the heart of the natural reserve "Elbe Sandstones". Your guide will lead you through narrow passages and along bizarre stone pillars, reminding you of a fairy tale-land. It is no wonder that scenes from the famous fantasy movie "Chronicles of Narnia" were filmed here. You will have enough time to slowly explore the area and access the tops of the rocks to enjoy the great views.

Afterwards, get ready to enjoy a traditional Czech lunch at an excellent local restaurant where you can try typical Czech meals. Selection of dishes cooked from local ingredients and also great beer from a local mini-brewery will give you just enough energy for the second part of your tour.

Your guide will then take you on a 45-minute drive to the German side of the Elbe Sandstones and finally arrive to the "Bastei", an iconic rock-formation, fortress and a stone-bridge high above the river Elbe. An easy walk will take you to the main viewpoints overlooking the huge Elbe canyon with table mountains all around. You will also see the Königstein, a big fortress on the opposite side and with a good weather you can enjoy a beautiful sunset from this place as well.

Make your way back to Prague in the evening and arrive back in the city around 7 p.m, full of experiences from a day spent in outdoors.

It was a rainy day, cold and windy but we had one of the BEST experiences of our life. _br/_ Elbe Canyon is magnificent- be prepared for a 2 hours walk and hike but it worth every single minute._br/_ Then Bastei Bridge- we visited all under rain but it was fantastic. Something I may say you can't miss.

A wonderful tour full of amazing sites and the best of nature. A little strenuous but worth it. The guide was excellent. We are old people and it was not easy for us. But he was very considerate and cause us to enjoy the tour in spite of the hardship. A great guy.

the guide was great and the view beautiful, but the restaurant was terrible. it looked like a tourist-trap, because the guide and us ordered the same dish, that said dumplings, and she got dumplings and we got simple bread.

I booked this trip from home as it was highly recommended and we weren't disappointed, although the _br/_ weather wasn't very kind to us it rained most of the day. We really did enjoy the 2km walk beside the_br/_ River up to where you hopped on a little boat and went further up seeing some wonderful sights_br/_ it did look spectacular in the mist._br/_ We then continued to where the Elbe sandstone mountains were but the rain and mist did stop _br/_ us from seeing afar._br/_ Our guide was excellent he looked after us very well, supplying us with more rain coats_br/_ Food was excellent would highly recommend.

I really enjoyed this day. The guide sorry his name escapes me was wonderful and his english was good which made it easier when he explained things during the day. The day consisted of a reasonably steep walk down to the Gorge, a small walking distance along a track, a boat ride and then another 30 minutes walking. The walk was easy and enjoyable. Lunch was enjoyable with my only comment being that we waited over an hour after ordering for our meals. I think with was a restaurant mistake as they provided us with dessert 'on the house'. The next part of the day to the bridge was fantastic the scenery was amazing and well worth seeing. Well worth the effort to go on this day trip. Would thoroughly recommend.

Our guide Waldemar was a wonderful guide. He was very knowledgeable and I highly recommend this tour to anyone that wants to get out of the city and see the countryside. The views along the river were lovely the our boat captain pointed out many points of interest while Waldemar translated for us. The trip to the old fort was lovely, and the views were incredible. There is an outdoor amphitheater and the sound rising up from that just added to the beauty of the trip.

One of the highlights of our European visit! The day was incredible from start to finish. Marek was the best guide. He was so congenial and knowledgeable. We never felt rushed and the pace was perfect. My husband has a slight knee issue but made it through the park walk fine. The scenery was nothing short of spectacular. We had a full van and by the time the tour was over, we were all friends. We would recommend this to everyone!

The tour was really fabulous. Our tour guide, Tony, was so informative and flexible with our tour. We toured the National Park on the Czech side and then the German side. We began the tour walking up the Stone River and took a boat trip down the Stone River. The boatman was very humorous and the boat ride was very enjoyable. Tony then took us to U Fořta, a restaurant in Mezni Luka. The food and beer were excellent. From there we crossed the border into Germany and visited the Elbe Sandstone Natural Reservation, which was unbelievably beautiful. Such dramatic heights. Breath-taking. It was a long day, but well worth it. My only complaint was that we had a very small group - one couple besides us, so Tony took us in his own vehicle. It wasn't the most comfortable accommodation for me sitting in the middle in the back seat.

This day is awesome.. I'm a lady in my mid 60's but I managed the entire tour so don't let age put you off going. Marek picked us up at out hotel as arranged on time, has to be said he turned out to be the best guide ever. After picking up from a couple of other hotels 7 of us in total we drove through the most beautiful scenery and taken to the Elbe Sandstones, others in the group were younger but at no time was I rushed, and I was included in all of the adventure, we all took as much time as we wanted for climbing and photographs. The included lunch was taken at a local restaurant and we could choose anything from the extensive menu, you didn't have to choose the cheapest items !! the food was delicious and certainly of a high quality, quite different from other tours I've taken in other countries. On we went further to the Basteil bridge another not to be missed sight... All in all this was a day to remember, getting away from Prague and the Christmas markets. Although when you see the cost of this day trip it may seem expensive, trust me, it is worth every single penny and I cannot recommend this enough for all ages, although possibly not if you are unable to walk. Marek takes time and involves everyone I had the most amazing time with such a great group it was nothing short of a privilege to be able to see the amazing sites on this tour with a group of likeminded people of varying ages.... Go, you will remember this day for ever.

What an amazing day trip from Prague! Walking through the forest, and taking the boat down the river was a refreshing break from the city. The hike by the sandstone pillars, and seeing the history of the castle was a beautiful end to the day.

Before my arrival in Prague, we spent 2 days in Ceske Krumlov. The beauty of both places is undeniable, so were the crowds. The decision to spend a day in the Bohemian nature was a stroke of genius looking back. It was a beautiful day out. We wandered through strange rock formations and quiet forest. We looked upon rolling green valley, small villages from our vintage height, the Elbe River shimmering in the sun below. After the morning walk, lunch was at an Inn deep in the woods. I was expected an ok and simple lunch, but our guide told us to order what we like from the menu which included venison, duck fish etc. The afternoon visit to the Bastei bridge was a bit more crowded but acceptable. The other tourist had arrived. It is an engineering marvel with walkways and viewing platforms between, over and under rock formations. We had another view to the Elbe River. The scenery once again was overwhelming. Our return trip to Prague was uneventful. I asked our guides/driver to drop us off near the Prague castle instead of our hotel in old town. Both Eva and Marek were very friendly and informative about the area. Job very well done. A can't miss if you are visiting Prague and a day to spare.

Absolutely magnificent ! both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The scenery was outstanding and it was good to see more of the Czech Republic than Prague - gorgeous though it is. As there was only the two of us, we were able to travel in Mareks own car. Pick up was prompt and Marek was by far the best tour guide we have ever known. In fact, he was more like a knowledge easy going friend and he had real passion for the environment. There was no rush and he allowed ample time to ask questions and take in the views. All in all a truly wonderful experience and we would recommend this trip with Northern Hikes.

FANTASTIC! This is a must see/do tour filled with a lot of beauty and nature. Vit, the tour guide, was wonderful! He was very knowledgeable, funny and accommodating and truly took joy in showing this lovely area which was great. Even with the weather being rainy, it was still awesome because you are at the top of the ridges and canyon so you can see everything! I did this tour and a castle tour another day and I would recommend doing this over anything else! o
