I really wanted to love this tour as our family has seen Sound of Music multiple times. I gave it a rating of 4-5. My hubby gave it 2-3, so we settled on 3. If we were to do it again, it would be for the sake of convenience, and I would not pay 150 Euro extra for a private tour. There is nothing seen different from the public tour, and in fact, the atmosphere might be more enjoyable with a group of like-minded fans.

We took a 4 hr private tour. Saw the filming sites. But - on the way back from the lake area our driver fell asleep at the wheel. Had it not been for my husband holding the steering wheel and shouting at the driver, I would not be here to write this review.

I was extremely excited about this tour but the actual experience was less than I had hoped. I was eager to walk through Mirabella Gardens, learn about the filming of the movie, hear about back stories, etc. Some of the most iconic scenes from the movie all occur within the city. Instead, we spent less than 10 minutes in the downtown area of Salzburg. The majority of time was spent driving to film sites outside of the city. Although some of those sites were just a few minutes away the Von Trapp family home, or the Gazebo at Hellbrun Palace, others took as much as 40 minutes to drive to - such as the lake district or the wedding chapel. Don't get me wrong, the scenery was magnificent. The countryside surrounding Salzburg is wonderful, but the time spent traveling to/from those surrounding areas occupied a significant portion of our private 4-hour tour. I would simply caution people interested in this tour to consider where you want to spend your time...perhaps develop a plan in advance with your tour guide.

This was a fabulous tour, and Wolfgang made it so personable and special for us. There were 5 of us who were all enthralled by the places we saw. Wolfgang gave us an insight into the history of the making of the film and why the places were chosen. He shared some history of Salzburg and Austria which delighted us. He took pictures of our group at various places which were all wonderful. He was a most gracious host. It was a highlight of our trip!

Well worth the time. Our tour guide was Wolfgang and he was fantastic, giving us an insight that was well beyond the sites. Ask for Wolfgang and you won't be disappointed. We recommended him to our friends who also visited Salzburg and they were just as happy as we were.

This private tour was worth every penny! Anthony, our guide was awesome! Taking this tour was the whole reason we went to Germany and Austria. If you love Sound of Music, please take this tour. Highlight was walking down the aisle of the same church the Captain and Maria got married in. Will always remember this tour.

Our tour director Wolfgang made our private Sound of Music tour a great experience. Even if not familiar with the SOM movie, you would find this tour an exceptional window into Salzburg, its history, and the lives of Salzburg residents. The stop at the township of Mond on the Mondsee and the local church was special. Even in the rain, the Alpine scenery was beautiful. Thanks Wolfgang.

This was a great tour. The guide was very informative and personalized the tour around our tastes. She made the tour fun for everyone in the group from children to Mom and Dad. We had a great time with our guide Antonio! He was very knowledgeable and funny and entertained us with fun facts about the city of Salzburg and tidbits about the movie and the sites we saw. The only thing I would change is the amount of time we pent in the car going from one site to the other. We must of spent at least 50 of the time in the car, and although we were entertained by the info, it was kind of boring at times. Would still recommend this tour for people that love the film and want to get some amazing pics at the places where it was shot. Thanks Antonio!!
