Adelaide City Tour with Glenelg Tram and Lunch

Adelaide, Australia

Discover the landmarks of Adelaide on a full-day tour that includes an afternoon at your leisure in Glenelg. During your morning coach tour, your guide shares the history of Adelaide as you see highlights such as Holy Trinity Church, the River Torrens, Victoria Square, King William Road, Hutt Street and Gouger Street. Sample the delicious treats at Haigh’s Chocolates then board the Tram to head to the pretty seaside suburb of Glenelg for lunch and the afternoon on your own. Return to Adelaide by hopping on the historic tram line, the last of its kind in the region.

After morning pickup at your Adelaide hotel or the Adelaide Central Bus Station, board your deluxe air-conditioned coach to begin your tour of the city’s highlights. Your local guide shares informative commentary throughout the morning tour.

As you cruise through central Adelaide, pass Victoria Square where many of South Australia’s important historic and modern government buildings are located. Drive down King William Street, a grand boulevard dotted with landmarks such as the governor’s residence. Stop at Haigh’s Chocolates (except Sundays) for a complimentary tea or coffee accompanied by the fine chocolates that this family-owned business has been producing since 1915. If you're visiting on a Sunday, you'll spend more time in Glenelg later in the afternoon.

See the bustle along trendy Hutt Street and take in Gouger Street, where you find the the Central Market and the gateway to Chinatown. Head to the North and East Terraces, where you pass cultural institutions such as the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and the South Australian Museum.

Travel to Glenelg, a charming seaside town located just six miles (10 km) from central Adelaide. Say farewell to your guide, then enjoy a meal at Grand Bar located inside the 5-star Stamford Grand Adelaide hotel. After lunch, take the afternoon to explore the town on your own. Walk along the beach, check out the shops on Jetty Road, or relax at one of the cafes that line the public square.

Learn more about the history of South Australia and Glenelg, the site of South Australia's original mainland settlement of 1836, at the Bay Discovery Centre, which is located in the heritage-listed old Glenelg Town Hall.

When you are ready to leave Glenelg, simply use the provided return tram ticket for a 20-minute journey on the historic tram that returns you to central Adelaide.

Bit disappointing with visit to Haighs Chocolates (morning Tea provided) - it was do it yourself tea and coffee only! I also did the Glenelg Tram trip which I bought as part of the tour. Dropped off at Rundle Mall (the only person on tour) Arrived in Glenelg used voucher at Stamford for lunch.

We enjoyed the city bus tour but according to tour information it was our understanding we would taken to tram for our ride to Glenelg. Instead we were dropped off several blocks from the tram and told by the bus driver that we had to walk to catch the tram. Upon arriving at the Grand Bar for lunch we found NO seating available. We walked the pier and ended up having a much unexpected delayed lunch. Not a good ending to this tour overall.

Would not recommend doing this tour on a Sunday. We had to stop at the National Wine Centre but then they were too busy to serve us. We stopped at the Cathedral for over half an hour , a bit pointless as because it was Sunday there was a service going and you couldn't look round - no coffee shops open in that area either!

very good trip, only wished we had booked a few days in glenelg into the trip, but even with 3 weeks in oz there is only so much you can do, maybe next time
