Adelaide City Tour with Optional River Cruise and Adelaide Zoo Admission

Adelaide, Australia

Take a 3-hour city tour with optional activities afterward to get to know Adelaide, a wonderful blend of old and new where historical buildings stand next to modern architecture, and where picturesque parks and the region’s finest food and wine provide something for everyone. See top attractions like the North Terrace, St Peter's Cathedral, Colonel Light’s Lookout, and visit Haigh’s Chocolates. Continue your day of sightseeing with optional upgrades — a Torrens River cruise and entrance to the Adelaide Zoo to see its beloved pandas.

Morning City Tour:
Your 3-hour tour of Adelaide begins with hotel pickup by coach. Meet your guide, grab a seat and enjoy your introduction to this city that combines old-world charm, heritage buildings and abundant green space with modern architecture and culture.

Visit the North Terrace with its wealth of historical sites, memorials and statues. Take a walk along Rundle Mall, the first shopping street in Australia. See Colonel Light’s Lookout, named after the founder of Adelaide and rumored to be where he mapped out his plans for the city. Enjoy a stop at the very popular St Peter's Cathedral and visit Haigh’s Chocolates, a must-do for any chocolate addict. Relax over a cup of provided tea or coffee while you sample the region’s finest sweet treats.

Other sights you may see include Victoria Square, Gouger Street, King William Street, the Terraces (South, East and West), the Torrens River, Parliament House, the State Library, Trinity Church (Adelaide’s oldest), Hutt Street, the Adelaide Oval, O’Connell Street, St Peter’s Cathedral, Montefiore Hill and the charming suburbs of North Adelaide.

The city tour ends on King William Street.

Optional Torrens River Cruise:
Board the Popeye at Elder Park for a 40-minute cruise on the city’s much-loved Torrens River. As you enjoy a leisurely ride along the river on this ferry service that dates back to 1935, admire views of the city center and look for the various types of birds that frequent the waterfront.

The cruise ends with return to Elder Park.

Optional Torrens River Cruise and Entrance to the Adelaide Zoo:
If you choose the Adelaide Zoo option, hop off the river cruise at a jetty located a short stroll from the zoo entrance.

Before your allocated time to view the pandas, enjoy free time to explore the zoo at your leisure. Check out the 300 species of animals, from flamingos to lions to giraffes. Grab a snack or drink at one of the zoo’s cafes, if you wish (own expense), and then head to the panda exhibit when it’s time for your viewing.

The only giant pandas in the southern hemisphere, Wang Wang (born in 2005) and Funi (born in 2006) are the first pandas to live permanently in Australia. During your time in their state-of-the-art exhibit, learn about the research center in China where they were born, and watch them munch lazily on bamboo.

After the zoo, return to the river for the ride back to the city center; you’ll dock at Elder Park, where your tour ends.

The tour of Adelaide was very good. The tour guide was very informative about his city and we got to see the highlights. Adelaide is a great city to visit lots of green spaces and old buildings being cared for. The Popeye cruise was fun and it was lovely floating along the river Torrens. Adelaide zoo is fantastic and well worth a visit no matter your age or whether a single couple or family. The zoo is extremely well maintained and all staff we encountered were helpful and enthusiastic about the zoo. The grounds of the zoo are beautiful and the enclosures are great. We have been to China and seen the pandas but it was a much better experience in Adelaide visiting the pandas. i would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Adelaide wanting to see the city highlights.

This tour was a deappointment. Called a city tour, it was basically a bus trip with primarily obsecure information relevant to the driver such as this is where my daughter goes to school, this is where my wife gave birth. We had virtually no time at our one and only stop at the Cathedral. Though we did see the city I was thinking that there would be more stops and a chance to see the city. And though we paid for the optional river cruise, the bus was late and so we missed the river cruise at the drop off point. If this is going to be part of the tour then the driver should be able to either confirm drop off with the river cruise operator or contact them to let them know that we were going to be late. This was a disappointing end to our Adelaide visit.

Had a great day. Very informative talk given by our driver of the beautiful buildings and the history of Adelaide. The zoo was a great experience. The only thing was the gift shop was closed and we presumed it was because of the atm blast the day before.

The tour was OK, driver was knowledgeable, but its just too long and boring and we did not even do the river cruise or the zoo visit._br/_ Would have been better to include a visit to Glenelg or Hahndorf as part of the tour.

Great city tour. See all the sites of Adelaide and bus driver and commentary were excellent. River cruise was very nice and is another way to see Adelaide from the water.

Good tour overall. The driver/guide was very knowledgeable. This was just a half a day trip. It was a Sunday so there was less action all around. The logistics were well handled. I

Adelaide tour was fantastic. Terrific coach driver who was able to tell us all we needed to know. We had travelled to Adelaide by train and as we didn't want to hire a car this was a great way to see the city and get our bearings of where things were.

The city tour gave us a good introduction to the main sites of interest in the city and the driver was full of interest facts. Worth doing on your first day in Adelaide.

I was picked up promptly from my hotel. Phil, the driver who also conducted the bus tour, was very informative and helpful. We got caught up by the Adelaide Marathon which made it hard for him to keep to time since some roads were closed, but Phil showed us everything. We didn't feel at all rushed at any point. The river cruise was pleasant, and the boat stopped right next to the Zoo for those who were going on there afterwards. I would thoroughly recommend this tour as a good introduction to Adelaide.

Loved the tour - loved Adelaide. Only downside was that somehow I missed the very important point that the tour ended at the zoo, not at our hotel. Unexpectedly having to get the bus back with a hot and exhausted 6-year-old boy was tough!

The bus trip was awesome.... Very informative. _br/_ I would forgo the river cruise though...boat captain was more interested in chatting to his counterpart than giving any information as we cruised to the weir and back.

Pretty average tour, thought we would go to the zoo, but we're shown the front gate of the zoo only.

Was well planned and covered most of the attractions in adelaide. First half of our tour was not sunny so it was pleasant (both the bus tour and river cruise) but by the time we reached the zoo it was sweltering and do ensure you carry your umbrellas, sunscreens etc..Overall a good trip and a good way to spend your day in adelaide.

I really enjoyed this tour! The driver was very informative and funny. He explained everything in detail. We visited an Trinity Church which was fascinating. Oh, and the trip to Haigh's chocolates.....what bliss. Unlike other tours (Cadbury Chocolate Factory in Hobart), you get to see into the factory complex and the tour guide from Haighs was very informative. You get to have a coffee/tea while there and, of course, try and buy chocolates. I then travelled on the 'popeye' and loved the commentary on board. It was a great tour overall and I'd go again. Just one word of warning though - it is important to phone and check the tour the day before. When I did so, my booking - although confirmed - wasn't showing.

The places chosen for the stops were only moderatly interesting. _br/_ The stop at the cathedral was too long and the Haighs chocolate factory 'tour' somewhat disappointing. It was not much more than an opportunity to buy chocolate. In my opinion this chocolate is overpriced and there is better chocolate produced in Switzerland and Belgium.

WE took this tour to give us a better idea of the lay out and what there was to see in Adelaide. It was well worth while. Our tour guide was friendly and very informative even adding on extra information that made the tour more a chat with a friend vs a talk off a sheet. well done. Note that not all buses have a lift facility for those that have difficulty with high steps. Most passengers managed well, if slowly but no one seemed to mind.

We enjoyed seeing the city altho the guide didn't give very comprehensive information. We had added on the Torrance river and Pandas to this trip and were definitely not expecting to be 'dumped' in Rundle Mall and told we had to make our own way to the river for the boat ride to the Zoo. Nor were we expecting that we had to make our own way back to the hotel from the Zoo. It clearly says on the booking 'pick up and DROP off. However, the Zoo was great and well worth the trip. Another point which I realize is not under your control was the visit to Haighs Chocolate Factory which also was great, but 30 mins is definitely not long enough for the 'tour' which was quite fascinating, coffee and the chance to purchase chocolate!!

An interesting tour but disappointing also. we only got off the bus to see Haighs chocolates and at Glenelg. it would have been nice to go up Mt lofty and maybe get out somewhere else, and not much opportunity for photos. The driver was informative and humorous.

Review by:   lynnette w,    April 2014 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
your itinerary is a little deceptive. Upon reading it I presumed we would actually be visiting the places of interest, not just a quick bus drive through them with the exemption of Haigs chocolates which was the highlight of the tour. I also thought the Popeye cruise or the zoo was also a feature which it was not. Better clarification is needed for this tour.

Our Tour around Adelaide was just great seeing many wonderful sights. Bus Driver was great. Haigh's Chocolate Factory was great. _br/_ However, the Tour on Pop Eye on the Torrens River was very disappointing. Not worth the money, did not see much of the river as it was blocked due to a Foot Bridge being built over it. The river was smelly and very dirty where we where taken. All four of us was extremely disappointed with that part of the tour.

This is a great way to get an overview of beautiful Adelaide. The architecture is wonderful and you will get a great appreciation of the history of this city. You will tour around the city itself, see some of the main sights including the fascinating chocolote factory - all chocolates hand made at Haigh's , free samples too! Then you will gravel to Glenelg beach, where you can take in the beach, jetty and marina. There's plenty of time and its an interesting tour.
