Adelaide Highlights and Hahndorf Tour with Optional River Cruise

Adelaide, Australia

Discover the highlights of Adelaide on this afternoon coach tour with an optional river cruise. Your guide shares facts about the city as you see landmarks in Chinatown, the Central Market, Victoria Square, King William Road and Hutt Street. Take in the views from the top of the Lofty Ranges, then visit the charming town of Hahndorf where you have afternoon tea and time to stroll around on your own. Have the option to include a sightseeing boat cruise on the River Torrens before your coach tour.

Your tour will start at Pop-eye jetty, board your comfortable air-conditioned coach for a comprehensive coach tour of Adelaide’s highlights. Your knowledgeable local guide provides informative commentary about the sights you pass on your 4-hour tour.

Start in Chinatown where pagoda-style roofs, red lanterns, restaurants and grocery stores are found along Moonta Street, which is marked by a traditional Chinese archway with lion statues. Then swing by the Central Market, the hub of Adelaide’s food scene with hundreds of farmers and specialty shops that provide everything from fresh fruits and veggies to seafood and locally-sourced meats.

Continue to nearby Victoria Square, the heart of the city with many of the South Australia’s most significant historic and modern civic buildings. See St Francis Xavier Cathedral and drive along the grand boulevard King William Street, where the governor’s residence is located along with other important landmarks. Motor down trendy Hutt Street as you head out to North and East Terraces, where cultural institutions like the South Australian Museum and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens are found.

Drive through the tree-lined suburbs as your coach climbs to the top of the Mt Lofty Ranges for spectacular views over Adelaide, from Glenelg to the Gulf St Vincent. Then follow the road to Hahndorf, passing the charming villages of Crafers, Stirling and Aldgate along the way.

When you reach Hahndorf, the oldest surviving German settlement in Australia, your guide explains the history of the town as you drive through the quaint streets to the Hahndorf Inn, where you have about two hours to enjoy a complimentary afternoon tea and time on your own to explore the town. Afterward, your coach returns you to your Adelaide hotel to end your tour.

Tour and River Cruise (one hour):

Begin your tour by hopping on board the iconic Pop-eye boat for a leisurely cruise along the River Torrens. The round-trip cruise departs from Elder Park and glides along the water to the Adelaide Zoo before returning to the landing. Along the way, your captain shares informative commentary about the many landmarks and points of interest located on the river. Look for wildlife including pelicans, Pacific black ducks, Australian wood ducks, black swans, ibis, egrets and herons. Pass under a number of beautiful bridges and get the chance to see some of their features up close. Take in public art and sculptures that dot the grounds of Linear Park, a popular city park that runs along the River Torrens. The river cruise is a great way to enjoy the quieter side of Adelaide and experience the river at the heart of the city.

Next, head towards the rotunda (near the jetty in Elder Park) where you will have approximately 20-25-minutes before your bus arrives and your Adelaide highlights tour begins.

The trip was good, Mount Lofty, Hahndhorf and a drive round Adelaide. Afternoon tea was coffee and a cake or beer- nothing to write home about. Hahndorf is a lovely crafty little town- well worth the visit

The germen village is a strange thing but really not very interesting, same as the river cruise. Really, it's not really fun

Not quite what was expected. The river tour was very short. It also meant that most of the city tour was missed as the river tour is picked up as the city tour heads off to Hahndorf.

Expected to see more of Adelaide so the fact that we went straight from the river cruise to the Adelaide outskirts meant we still have a lot to see in Adelaide itself.

This tour (incl the cruise) was very informative and entertaining. The cruise is a very leisurely 40mins with a very knowledgeable boat driver / tour guide. Not many city sights, but Mt Lofty and Hahndorf were fantastic. Plenty of time at Hahndirf.

Great look at river Torrens with good commentary then the bus trip to Handorf with exceptional bus driver was fun. He took us to Mt Lofty and gave us time for photographs. Handorf visit we ran out of time to have a proper look at shops being busy with Easter but afternoon tea provided was scrumptious. A tour I would recommend for visitor to Adelaide as I learned so much.

1st - When I rang to confirm the pick up from our Hotel - I was informed that because I was on the Optional River Cruise I had to make my way to the departure point - The directions I was given to go from our Hotel (In Glenelg) were not very good) The River Cruise was excellent - I would recommend this to anyone._br/_ 2nd - When we got on the bus after the Cruise (45 min) we drove straight from the City to Hahndorf - past two universities and out of town (They were the Adelaide Highlights)._br/_ 3rd - When we arrive in Hahndorf we went straight to the Hahndorf Hotel for afternoon tea - It took my wife 45 minutes to get her cup of tea ( a tea bag in a very hot cup of water) after which it left us with not much time to look around that wonderful town. ( We recently went to New Zealand and when we arrived at out morning and afternoon teas everything had been set up and was ready as they new we were coming). I would recommend to anyone to go to Hahndorf._br/_ 4th - I enjoyed the trip back and the fact that we were dropped off at our accommodation.

I would describe this trip "a transfer" rather than a Tour.. All they do - they drive you to that little town of Hahndorf and leave you on your own for two hours(!) to wonder shops and nothing else... Minimum information!

The weather was terrifically hot during my trip on that day...._br/_ the tour commentary was pretty good, and the driver/guide very friendly and knowledgeable.

I enjoyed the city highlights as well as the drive to Adelaide Hills and the driver was quite knowledgeable. The German village, Hahndorf is worth the visit although it would have been better to spend more than 20 minutes in Mt Lofty and less than 2.5 hours in Hahndorf.

It was amazing! We saw so much of beautifully Lofty Ranges and had a fabulous time in Handorf Village a very informed driver and saw 8 Koalas In their natural habitat - I don't think it could have been any better - extremely well done and the best part of my brief stay in Adelaide.

Not bad. I would prefer a longer tour

Good tour basically. Abysmal weather and there was no view from Mount Lofty (but of course it was the middle of winter). Cake and coffee at Hanhdorf was rushed, and in a crowded restaurant. It felt like being in a production line with left-over food). It was very cold at Hanhdorf and not enjoyable meandering there between the shops. Would be great in warmer weather.

A little bit different, not what you maybe expect from Austrailia, but very worthwhile. Plenty of time to explore Hahndorf.

Nice trip through Adelaide Hills and also the trip to Hahndorf was great. Would have liked more time in Hahndorf to walk around the shops

Interesting Tour but not sure I would repeat it. But that may be because there is not alot to see in Adelaide

We enjoyed this short but very informative tour. The leisurely stroll along the village main Street was like stepping back in time with no hustle of busy city life. Not the first time here and will not be the last!

This was a very good trip and the main attraction was the stop off at Hahndorf, a delightful place with a very good afternoon tea.provided. While Hahndorf was clearly the highlight the trip around the hills was also interesting, especially Mount Lofty. if an improvement ws needed it could be that some attention could be given to the end of the trips. On each trip we made we were picked up from the hotel but on our return instead of being taken back there by the coach we were taken to the main depot and passengers from various trips were allocated to other coaches for return to thier hotels. This may make good economic sense but at the end of a trip having to hang about at the depot is not conducive to improved humour. It was still a good trip though.
