Barossa Valley with Hahndorf Tour from Adelaide

Adelaide, Australia

Sample the delights of the Barossa Valley on a full-day guided tour from Adelaide that includes two wine tastings, a delicious winery lunch and a visit to Hahndorf. Your knowledgeable guide shares the valley's winemaking history before guided tastings at Seppeltsfield Winery and Wolf Blass. With stops at local landmarks and a scenic route that takes in the River Torrens and Adelaide Hills, your tour provides an in-depth experience of the legendary winemaking region and its environs.

After pickup at your hotel in Adelaide or the Central Bus Station, step aboard your air-conditioned coach and meet your knowledgeable guide.

Start with a drive along a scenic route that follows the River Torrens and winds through the spectacular Torrens Gorge. Pass Kangaroo Creek Reservoir and Millbrooke Reservoir, which provide water to Adelaide, then continue through quaint Williamstown, the southern gateway to the Barossa Valley.

Stop after about an hour on the road at Seppeltsfield Winery. Established in 1851, the winery includes more than 250 acres (100 hectares) of vineyards with shiraz and grenache grapes, the traditional grapes cultivated in the Barossa.

We head to a multiple award winning wine at Wolf Blass. You will learn the art of winemaking on a guided tour and have a tutored wine tasting of their Gold Label and their Black Label wines. Wolf Blass is where you will indulge on a 2 course lunch along with an exclusive preview of Penfolds wine tasting.

Hop back on your coach to travel to Hahndorf, a small town in the Adelaide Hills that is the oldest remaining German settlement in Australia. Stroll under 100-year-old elm and plane trees on the main street and take in the quaint cottages, craft shops and tea rooms of the town.

On your return to Adelaide, pass through the lush Adelaide Hills and villages such as Crafers, Stirling, Aldgate and Bridgewater. After an 8-hour tour, your guide returns you to your Adelaide hotel in the early evening.

We had a small group who thoroughly enjoyed the tour, from the wine tasting, learning about the history of the area, and the knowledgeable driver, to the beautiful scenery. Very tasty lunch, with generous tastings of the wines. Staff where friendly and helpful.

I received a last minute phone call telling me that I would have to go on the 1st instead of the 30th, even though I specifically booked the day I chose for a reason. The tour guide more or less just rambled as we drove endlessly. The first wine tasting was neat, and informative. But when we went to Wolf Blass, it was a joke. The wine rep rushed us through the tasting and poured nominal tastes for us. I would say at the end of the day, I probably had about 2.5 glasses of wine. When you consider how expensive this trip is, that's definitely not worth it. It didn't feel comfortable or friendly. And it was more of a pain than anything else. Lunch was overrated. Not sure who wants a giant steak lunch in the middle of a tasting, nibbles work best for pairings and trying. But since lunch was at Wolf Blass, it was even more bland. Don't do this one, you'd be better off.

We did enjoy the tour on the 27 February with a few exceptions, we were sitting halfway down the bus and had trouble hearing the drivers commentary which was annoying. I did make him aware of it and he did turn his mike up a knotch but we still struggled to hear him and gave up asking again. the winery tour to Seppeltsfield was really good but very rushed after the wine tasting we only had about 15 mins to look around which was disappointing. The Hahndorf visit was good as was driving through the Adelaide hills, again we couldn't hear the drivers commentary on the local history. All in all a few improvements but a nice afternoon.

Fun day of wine tasting, seeing the beautiful Barossa Valley, great lunch at the winery. Enjoyed walking back in time at Hahndorf though there didnt appear to be many Germans manning the shops! Our driver and tour guide/driver, Pete, was helpful and knowledgeable

The vineyards were excellent as was the lunch. The drive was beautiful and the driver informative. One disappointment was that the trip's description advertised that it would be a group of up to 20 so we were expecting a smaller group. We were on a large bus and at lunch with 37 other people. It worked out though. There was plenty of space with wine and food to go around.

Having taken numerous V tours in the past, I can say that this specific trip is not the best. Went to 2 top name factory wineries where wines tased were not that good and no one bought anything. Wines were not their best and winery spokespersons seemed to be speaking as if they were memorized speeches. Nothing personal about it. Then drove from Barossa to Hahndorf. Should take this off the trip and stay in Barossa. Spent too much time driving on a bus listening to a monotone bus driver repeat what town we were passing through over and over. Maybe a different tour operator wouldve been better.

great tour and the driver/tour guide was excellent, not too chatty. The winery's were very informative._br/_ Hahndorf itself was very pretty, shops were similar, its such a shame they do not have more arts and crafts from the local or greater area_br/_ showcasing the locals artists/creative people. Pubs were fun.

I really enjoyed the tour and absolutely loved Hahndorf. I felt the winery component of this tour was very rushed and lunch was lovely.

Great day trip to a fantastic wine region. Pacing is the key to a successful day! When you start, you have to remember that there are 5 more wineries and a great lunch coming. The valley is beautiful, the people are delightful.

The wineries were wonderful but hahndorf was a huge disappointment. It’s one street with tourist stuff. Ugh. Skip and add winery. The lunch at winery was beautiful

Review by:   Anne L,    April 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The tour was well balanced, interesting and varied. Unfortunately our driver which was also the guide was talking far too quick and far too low. As foreigners, we were simply unable to understand what he was saying, which was desperate. It was our first time in Adelaide, and first time in australian vineyards and as french amateur of good wines we really felt disappointed and at loss. We told him about his way of talking, he replied ha could not do anything about it. We had a warm welcome at Gray Line counter, and we hope that this is the only error.

The wineries part of the tour and the lunch at Barossa was very good. However the German village of Hahndorf was disappointing and really not worth seeing.

Met the tour guide at the hotel which I was advised to be at in order to join the tour bus. Our guide was very friendly and provided us with wonderful information about the city of Adelaide, the industry that made Adelaide as well as the history of the city as it is now. We had a great bus ride out into the wine country and were provided with more information about the start of the vineyards. We had wine tasting at two vineyards, one was called Seppeltsfield and the other was Jacob's Creek. Our guide left us with a host in each of the vineyards who was very professional and provided us with the history behind each of the companies. We had wine tastings and history concerning the wine. We all enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Jacob's Creek before heading off to the beautiful town of Hahndorf. There was plenty of time for wandering through the city and enjoying a snack before boarding the bus to head back to Adelaide. It was definitely a wonderful day. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, our guide for the bus tour was terrific as were the hosts at the vineyards. Our lunch was fabulous. And it was delightful to walk through Hahndorf. A tour worth taking for sure.

Overall this was a good day out. The best vineyard in our view was Jacobs Creek and they, by far, looked after us the best. We weren't so keen on the presentation at Seppeltsfield. It was a bit of a tired routine dished out daily to tour groups. The lunch at Chateau Barossa was good although you have to buy your own wine, in a vineyard!!!. We then went on to Hahndorf before being returned to our hotels. The visit to this German styled village seemed to us a bit superfluous and we would have been happy not to have had this included in the tour.

This is a really good day trip to the Barossa Valley, including a stop off at Hahndorf. We left the central bus depot and our trip leader/driver, Marty, gave us lots of interesting information about the history of Adelaide and the region. He was entertaining and made the day fascinating - his breadth of knowledge meant he found something for everyone's interest. We drove to Seppeltsfield Winery where we tasted several great varieties and learned about the history. Then on to Jacob's Creek, which was fascinating and the grounds are beautiful. The sensory wine tasting here was particularly interesting. After this, we stopped in at Chateau Barosa for lunch, which was two courses - very nice and again several selections so something for everyone. The Chateau had a lovely rose garden too. There is a lot of Lutheran history around this area from the German immigrants who established the wine making here and Hahndorf showcases some of this, although it's more a tourist town. The real history is elsewhere across the valley. Overall though, the day is really good. We arrived back in the city right on schedule too, well done.

Winery tour was great. Small bus with a very informative driver. Loved Seppeltsfield winery. Beautiful setting and staff very knowledgeable. Jacobs Creek was more rushed and they were more interested in telling you about the history rather than experiencing the wine. Would have been better to go to a smaller winery. Meal was beautiful, lovely gardens to look at. Hahandorf was a pretty place. Be very careful when buying the beer, it is very expensive. Had a great day with nice people.

An enjoyable day with a good lunch. I would prefer to have had more than 3 wine tastings at Jacobs Creek wineries but the host was very good, showing us the history of the winery, the environmental innovations at Jacob's Creek and how to do a proper evaluation of the wine.

This was a most enjoyable day out. We had a very good tour guide. We visited two wineries for tastings and then on to the Chateau Barossa for a delicious lunch and a tour of the Chateau. Then we drove on to Hahndorf where we had time to view the sites. There was a group of about 20 of us this day, which was a good number of people. The entire day was informative and busy and we all had lots of fun!

Excellent trip to the Barossa Valley and Hahndorf. Our trip leader/driver was interesting, fun and knowledgeable. We loved Seppeltsfield Winery! Very historic and beautiful. Jacob's Creek was also lovely but we were preferred the boutique winery feel of Seppel's compared to the larger Jacob's Creek. Lunch was nice at Barossa Chateau choose the pannacotta for dessert but this was my least enjoyable part of the trip. I would be happy if this was substituted for something else. We loved Hahndorf - very charming! Overall, a great day!

This tour was a total rip-off for what we received. The weather was awful not your fault the coach demister did not work so we had air-conditioner on the whole day and froze to death, windows were misted up so saw nothing. Driver was incompetent with coach and its workings and he drove too fast for the conditions. Meal was pleasant, no wine included? 2 wineries, 1 x pub_br/_ Ripped off!!!

Not quite amazing but close, I think Seppeltsfield is past its use by date as a winemaker and location, 30 years ago was amazing. Jacobs Creek excellent and a better choice for lunch than where we went. A taste of Hahndorf all good as was driver Russell
