Coorong National Park Wildlife Cruise from Goolwa Including Lunch

Cruise into the Coorong National Park, pass through locks and barrages and past the mouth of the Murray River. Along the way see a Coorong seal colony, take a guided bush tucker walk, dig for cockles and visit an Aboriginal midden site. Your 6.5-hour cruise includes lunch and morning and afternoon tea and offers spectacular scenery and the opportunity to get up-close to the native wildlife.

Enjoy a 6.5-hour expedition into the Coroong National Park, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth area aboard a 16 seater passenger vessel with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea provided.

Depart the Goolwa Wharf heading upstream to Clayton, passing through Duck's Hospital while enjoying morning tea. Then pass Lake Alexandrina as you head to the hand operated lock at Tauwitchere Barrage.

Stop for lunch at Cattle Point in the beautiful Coorong National Park where you’ll learn some of the Aboriginal Ngarrindjeri history and visit ancient midden sites. Continue towards the Murray Mouth and stop at either Barker's Knoll for a walk through the sand dunes to the spectacular Southern Ocean beach, where you can try digging for cockles (during season) and learn about native bush tucker from your experienced guide.

Once back on board, cruise past the Mighty Murray Mouth and arrive at the Goolwa Barrage where you’ll have the opportunity to get up close to New Zealand fur seals before returning to the Goolwa wharf. This is the only cruise to circumnavigate Hindmarsh Island. With guided walks, seal colony, prolific birdlife, and commentary on board, this will be a trip to remember.

This tour was very informative with a good mix of history, geography and current challenges facing the Coorong area explained in line with landmarks being passed. The guide was engaging and well-informed and provided a good mix of activity, varying between sitting in the boat and walking. There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and Michael was more than happy to expand. He made a particular effort to engage the children on the trip.
