Mount Lofty Descent Bike Tour from Adelaide

Adelaide, Australia

See the stunning beauty of Adelaide’s native bushland on a small group bicycle tour down from the summit of Mount Lofty. On this relaxing, all-downhill ride, travel from the highest point in the mountain range for an unparalleled look at the hills and plains below. Fuel up for the ride with morning tea, catch a glimpse of koalas and kangaroos with a stop at Cleland Wildlife Park. Outfitted with a high-quality mountain bike and experienced guide, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Adelaide from a distinctly different vantage point.

After being fitted for a high-quality mountain bike and helmet, depart from your centrally located Adelaide hotel in a luxury 4WD vehicle to the summit of the mountain. Along the way, stop to pose for a picture-perfect snapshot high above the city; tree-covered mountains, verdant bushland and rolling hills serve as your backdrop. Once you reach your starting point, an experienced guide will lead you on a relaxed descent from 2,329 feet (710 meters), the highest point in the Mt Lofty Ranges. Wind your way down the mountain and enjoy views of the Adelaide hills. Your route takes you to Cleland Conservation Park, a vital home to bushland, stringybark forest, and waving fields of grassland. Cycle leisurely through this 85-acre (35-hectare) bushland habitat, and see animals roaming in their natural habitats.

Take a break from the gentle ride to get up close and personal with Australia’s native creatures that live in the conservation area. Greet gentle wallabies, feed emus and maybe even pat a koala. Wander through the park, admiring other wildlife rarely found outside Australia, before relaxing for early morning tea. Hop back on your bike to traverse trails and spot more of the creatures that call the conservation park home.

The downhill ride continues through Chambers Gully, an offshoot of Waterfall Gully that houses old ruins, springs and many koalas snoozing high in the trees. Experience more of the breathtaking views during your descent through beautiful natural surroundings, taking in the sight of the city from high above it. Finish your journey through the bushland on a path that leads you into Adelaide’s quiet roads and suburbs. After experiencing a different view of the city pedaling through South Australia’s capital, you’re transported back to your hotel.

I was picked up at the hostel I was staying in and after picking up another couple, we drove off with our bike tour guide who was great. He gave us a quick talk about Adelaide and as we drove up to the starting point on Mount Lofty, he explained how the bike trip worked. He had great mountain bikes for us plus helmets and gloves if needed. He was great to explain that we could walk on any part of the path if we felt too nervous. I did start by walking for a small section upon our descent but then started to ride. The path varies from rocks to grass/sand mix, back to sections of rocks. No paved pathway down this mountain! We stopped at the animal sanctuary for tea and cake plus visits with the many animals looked after in the sanctuary. Once we left, I think we all felt more comfortable and relaxed more as we continued on down the mountain. The views are fabulous and it was terrific to have been able to ride through sections of the city on our way to meet the van in order to be driven back to our hostel or hotel. I am thrilled to have been successful in my first mountain bike riding adventure. The tour company was very professional and I would highly recommend signing up for this adventure in Adelaide.

JUST GO FOR IT! I had only a few days to see Adelaide and this was the highlight. Brush up on your bike skills first as it and #39;ll require some good handling. I was left covered in mud but so much fun! Thanks Ian for picking me up from midpoint, I almost didn and #39;t make this trip as I couldn and #39;t get a bus!

Fantastic time on this bike tour. We saw some great wildlife on our decent including lits of koala in the wild. The bike tour is a great way to see parts of Adelaide that are off the beaten track and suitable for all abilities.

Absolutely perfect! It was a lovely day with a lovely view. Our guide, Matt, was in no hurry to get us down the 'mountain'. We took our time feeding the kangaroos and admiring the teeth of the Tasmanian devil. Matt also gave us lots of warning on the 'tricky' bits of the trail which, mostly, weren't all that tricky. The bikes were in excellent shape, with good braking and a lot of traction. If you're after a challenging ride, this isn't for you. But for the traveler just wanting to get out and enjoy the scenery, it's perfect!

It was a highlight to my trip._br/_ The guide is really good, stopping at critical points to guide you to the way and even though I've never done mountain bike before it was good fun. Hard enough to challenge myself._br/_ There is a walk in the park. We have some breakfast and bike again. Highly recommended

Excellent, Great fun...and very well guided by Ian._br/_ We opted not to visit the actual wildlife park, except for coffee and muffins before heading down the mountain, spotting and photographing Koalas in the trees and then through the back roads and cycle tracks to the city. _br/_ Great half day trip, picked up from hotel, top guide, good bikes, and great value. Highly recommended, even if you haven't been mountain biking before.

Brilliant but quite scary at the start if, like me, you haven't been on a bike for many years. Ian was fantastic, very patient and helpful. The stop at the wildlife park was great, petting a koala and feeding the Kangaroos. Also coffee and cake which was very welcome. Thoroughly enjoyable and great value.

Good, outdoor and enjoyable experience. Not a lot of things for active teenagers to do in Adelaide but this was a good one - my son enjoyed it. Tour operator is a great guy.

This tour was one of the highlights to our trip to Australia. Ian, our guide, was well organized and guided us down the trail expertly. It is a great way to see Cleland Park and the views on the descent were spectacular. Ian stopped several times to point out Koalas in the trees and the Magpies were racing us down the hill. It was nice to have a tour that involved exercise as well as seeing some beautiful scenery. Thanks Ian for making our trip to Australia really special.

A good way to see a part of Adelaide you wouldn't normally see. Biking on the trails was good fun and you don't need to be a pro mountain biker to do it. Cleland Park was good but seeing koala's in the wild was a bit special. Overall we were very pleased to have done the tour.

Great tour! Guide was friendly and knowledgeable and very helpful with using the bikes. Trail through the bush of the park was easy to ride and we saw koalas and other animals in the wild.
