Victor Harbor with McLaren Vale Wine Region Tour from Adelaide
Adelaide, Australia
Discover the beautiful scenery south of Adelaide and visit some of South Australia’s top attractions on this day trip to Victor Harbor. Travel through mountain ranges and past pretty seaside villages, explore the historical towns of Strathalbyn and Victor Harbor. See where the Murray River meets the sea, and stop in McLaren Vale, the center of one of Australia’s best wine regions. During the tour, learn about the area and its history from a knowledgeable guide. While in Victor Harbor you also have to option to include a cruise and observe the region's wildlife including seals, sea lions, cormorants and petrels,
After hotel pickup in Adelaide, leave the city behind and travel by coach through the Mt Lofty Ranges, dotted with small villages and great views.
Arrive in the historic town of Strathalbyn after about an hour’s drive. You have free time to explore this quaint town on the Angas River — perhaps sit down for morning tea at one of the local cafes (own expense). Back on the coach, head to Goolwa, an old paddle-steamer town near the mouth of the Murray River, and then pass by Port Elliot on Horsehoe Bay on your way to Victor Harbor. Total driving time from Strathalbyn to Victor Harbor is about one hour.
In Victor Harbor, you have approximately two hours of free time to explore the town on your own. Maybe take the horse-drawn tram across the causeway to Granite Island, or visit a local restaurant for lunch (all food, drinks and activities are at your own expense).
Back on your coach, start the 45-minute drive north to the town of McLaren Vale in the popular Australian wine region of the same name. Stop for 30 minutes in town, where you can visit a cellar door (tasting room) for a wine tasting, if you wish, or check out local attractions like Medlows Confectionary or the Almond Train (own expense).
Finish your day trip with the 1-hour drive from McLaren Vale back to Adelaide, passing through the picturesque coastal towns of Christies Beach, Port Noarlunga and Moana.
Upgrade Cruise Option During your time in Victor Habor you can choose to include a 45-minute scenic cruise to Seal Island passing through the Horse Tram route and historic Screwplie Jetty. Watch out for New Zealand Fur Seals and Australian Sea Lions at play, basking under the sun or even up close as they swim towards the boat. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife such as Bottlenose Dolphins, Cormorants and Petrels. We then cruise back to the Granite Island Causeway landing.
To include the cruise, please select the 'Tour and Cruise' option at time of booking.
Bus was good. Driver was ok. Tour was just hours and hours of driving with little content. Some stops were just 10 minutes for photos. Longest stop was lunch in Victor. Town was dead, nothing of real interest, Little or no information. Winery stop included no information about cellar door and just provided a 20 minute stop to buy wine-- very boring. All the brochure boxes were checked, but that's it ! This tour needs to be reconfigured. We did not book to drive around for 4 hours. Will not recommend it on Trip Advisor --- EDV

A long Journey in the Bus, not a lot to see once we got there

We had a great trip, our driver Cheryl was very friendly and had a lot of local knowledge as we toured around.

Good tour and the bus driver was very informative. The only let down was not enough time at McLaren Vale.

Great tour. The driver gave good commentary pointing out places of interest. Would recommend it.

The driver / guide was informative, although I noticed that he had to ask passengers to reduce noise so that other passengers could hear the commentary.

Lovely day. Lots of information given about various points along the way. The stop in the wine region possibly could have been a bit longer. Victor Harbor - nice place and lunch was great.

Driver very good and informative, great tour. I wish in McLaren Vale we had the opportunity to visit at least one other winery and a little longer than the 30 minutes we had at Hardy's.

It was a lovely day for sightseeing but the time spent at McLaren Vale seems a little short. Still, a good day trip.

From on-time pick up at our hotel, to drop off 8 hours later, this tour was everything it promised. Knowledgeable commentary along the way, beautiful photo opportunities, and longer stops were just the right length of time. Highly recommended if you want to get an overview of Adelaide and its surrounds.

Really enjoyed this, bus driver was great even though the driver had to do the tour in reverse due to traffic accident. Very comfortable bus, would recommend

The day was very pleasant, however the description refers to cellar door tastings which didn't happen. I was looking forward and that was why i chose McLaren Vale. We ended up only having 30 mins at McLaren Vale and 2 hours at Victor Harbour. I recommend that the tour description be change to more accurately reflect the tour.

Victor Harbour was a great experience to visit, topped off by a camel ride down on the beach. Plenty of places to eat and shops to browse.

Good value. Would have more winery experience in Mclaren Vale, rather than just a stop in the main street.

We had a very enjoyable and informative trip. Booking the trip before we left home was a great idea - totally hassle free.

Not impressed at all. Very disappointed with the driver and the pick up from hotel area was very confusing. Tour was very rushed and too time restricted to the point we had to leave part of our lunch as we didn't have enough time in Victor harbour. I found the driver to be rude and not friendly at all.

Our driver was very informative and courteous and his driving was excellent.

Did enjoy the tour, however we thought wine region part of tour would've been equal in length to Victor Harbor. We got 2hours in Victor Harbour which was far too long, and only 30mins max when we stopped at McLaren Vale. If you're after a wine tour do a Barossa valley wine tasting tour.
Review by: Chee Wan K, February 2013
2 hours of free time at Victor Harbour and a wine tasting session was included. En-route, several stopovers for photo taking at a couple of towns and scenery lookout.

An exceptional tour full of interest. The "local" knowledge of the guide was excellant, above that of tours undertaken in other countries. Highly recommended..

wonderful day driver very informative
Review by: Janet C, August 2012
Enjoyed the trip. Loved Strathalbyn for morning tea. Would have preferred longer in Victor Harbour (the cafe we went to for lumch took far too long to serve our sandwiches so we had less time to explore Granite Island). Wasn't so keen on the winery in McLaren Vale. Missed out on Glenelg as coach running late back to Adelaide. Coach was comfortable and hotel pick up and drop off was efficient.

Great day out. Trip was easy to book and the company we were with were informative and helpful. Well worth going with Viator
Review by: Judy H, January 2012
Saw some interesting country. Guide/driver was informative. Couldn't get to Granite Island as it is being refurbished.
Review by: Ronald R, August 2011
Seeing that we went to Mclaren Vale there could have been a organized wine tour at a winery
Review by: Preet B, January 2011
In spite of the hype and the good services of the tour operator, the tour is not as fab as the reviews make it to be. McLaren is very quiet and the range of tasting was quite limited.
Port Victor is a nice quiet place but if we do not get the inside stories and the history, then better (and cheaper) to take the regular coach for a day there with access to the very same attractions such as granite island and the horse tram.
The lively bit came with the aspects of the murray river and the development of the area. I think the cockle train and its elements need to be integrated somehow to make the tour worth what you normally charge.
The local produce needs to be promoted more for the tour to be really 'regional'.

Excellent day, our great driver David full of interesting commentary and insite into the area. Will certainly be recommending this tour to all and would go again.

I would have enjoyed the trip more if I didn't suffer from motion sickness. This is not anybody's fault, I've suffered it since childhood. Overall though it was a very interesting way to see the Adelaide Hills and Victor Harbour.
