3-Day Alice Springs to Uluru (Ayers Rock) via Kings Canyon Tour

Alice Springs, Australia

Immerse yourself in the ancient landscapes of Uluru and Kata Tjuta on a three-day tour from Alice Springs. You'll see the highlights of Uluru (Ayers Rock), including the unforgettable sights of an Uluru sunset and sunrise, and have the opportunity to walk the rim of the magnificent Kings Canyon.

Day 1: Alice Springs - Uluru
Travel from Alice Springs to Uluru aboard a luxury coach. Stop at the Camel Farm and learn about the impact camels had in opening up Central Australia. You have the opportunity to ride a camel (own expense). While travelling through this remote country, your friendly Driver/Guide will provide an informative and entertaining commentary. There is time for stop at Mt Ebenezer road house for a quick break. View flat-topped Atila (Mt Conner) in the distance before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort.

This afternoon travel around the base of Uluru in comfort as your Driver Guide provides commentary about the numerous sacred sites and features to be found at Uluru. Continue by coach to the Kuniya Walk where your Driver Guide will escort you to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your Driver Guide points out some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru. Later visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture and see Aboriginal arts and crafts.

In the late afternoon travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness the striking color changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying canapés and a complimentary glass of wine.

Optional Aussie BBQ Dinner
After sunset, a guide will transfer you to the exclusive barbecue site. You will be served a variety of Australian meats and salads, accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine, beer or orange juice (menus are subject to change).

Day 2: Uluru - Kings Canyon
Rise early this morning to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area. Watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre alight while enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee. Then travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta. Spend some time exploring Walpa Gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta.

In the early afternoon, travel by luxury coach through spectacular desert scenery on your way to Kings Canyon Resort. Pass through Curtin Springs cattle station before viewing Atila (Mt. Conner) from the coach.

Day 3: Kings Canyon Guided Rim Walk - Alice Springs
Join a guided climb to the rim of Kings Canyon for marvelous views of Watarrka National Park. Follow the rim of the canyon stopping to look down into the canyon gorge at look-out points. The rim walk takes approximately 3-hours to complete and is rocky and steep in parts. It is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Alternatively, you may wish to take an easier, shorter walk to explore the boulder strewn canyon floor.

Stop at Kings Creek Station to purchase lunch (own expense) before continuing through beautiful desert landscapes on your way to Alice Springs.

This tour is a great value. Everything was very well organize and on time. The guides were knowledgeable and helpful. The bus trip was comfortable and enjoyable. Plenty of stops for breaks and refreshment. The trips out to Uluru were great, but unfortunately we had cloudy weather both for the sunrise and sunset- so no spectacular views of the big rock. The additional walks were not too strenuous, unless you wanted them to be. Just enough of the Outback to get a good feel for what the center of Australia is all about. One suggestion is to be prepared for the flies in some areas. They get a bit chummy. You can purchase a fly net to wear over your hat just about anywhere in the Outback and that is probably a good idea depending on when you go. Also, the weather report we checked before we went said extremely hot weather, but it actually rained for a couple of the days- which if it hadn't been raining when we left Sydney wearing rain gear, could have been a little uncomfortable. We did the superior accommodations with the BBQ. Hotels were very nice, clean and comfy. The BBQ was okay, but could probably be skipped if you are doing the sunrise trip to Uluru. If you do the BBQ you end up with a very short 3-4 hour overnight for sleep as you don't get back to the hotel until after 10 and are up before dawn for the time we went in December.

The tour was excellent. Here is some information your future travelers. First do not worry about getting coffee or breakfast before crazy early bus pickups as the tour will soon go to a road travel stop or will provide you with free coffee and snack bars. Second do bring many large bottles of water as all the hotels sell bottled water at 3x the cost in a convenience store. Third realize that some of the timing of bus arrivals and departures are at odds with the hotel schedules: e.g. normal checking and checkout times. Ignore the checkout issue as the hotels will not care even if you are more than an hour late in checkout. The checkin can be an issue ... and is an issue the tour bus company should improve. Finally note that this is a very very busy tour. My recommendation to the bus tour company would be to offer a gentle afternoon option at Uiuru, to leave the hotels at not 2:30pm but rather 4pm with a short visit to the Uluru visitor center and the rock itself in time for the great sunset viewing party. Else have fun!

I thought that the inclusion of Kings Canyon was not worthwhile. The distances are great and required a lot of bus riding. An extra night in Uluru Eyres Rock would have been wonderful. Not enough time there. Sails in the Desert resort was first rate. I would suggest taking trips out of Uluru and omitting Kings Canyon. The bus company is very well organized and drivers excellent but just too much time spent on bus.

Amazing - lots of walking but some stunning views and very knowledgable people. I will remember this experience for life and highly recommend anyone to do this. Some say 'why go to see a rock in the middle?' but we're so pleased we did.

Although it was an intense 3 days tour, we certainly enjoyed all the activities included. The AATKings operators were good, excellent drivers and tour guides, very knowledgable and fun. Not being from Australia, we learned a lot about the culture, history and beauty of every place we visited and the aboriginal people, in a very short 5 days visit from Alice Springs to Uluru, Kings Canyon and the Olgas. Highly recommended .

This trip was absolutely fantastic - I really only booked for Uluru but Kata Tjuta and the Kings Canyon trip also included were just spectacular! As a single person I felt completely safe all the time and the drivers and guides were so friendly and informative - Thankyou especially to Tanya my driver for making this trip such a laugh. Great value for money and I totally recommend this to anyone wanting the full Uluru experience.

Wonderfully arranged tour to Uluru, Kata Tjuta, and Kings Canyon. The only advice is to be prepared for a long bus ride to Kings Canyon, especially with the relatively brief time spent at that site.

My wife and I really enjoyed this tour, the guides and drivers were excellent and full of information. The tour meant that we got to see a lot in a small amount of time which was great and we even managed to squeeze in a helicopter trip over Uluru which I would highly recommend as well. We chose the First class option and thought all the accommodation was just that, first class very clean and comfortable. They were an exceptional tour company and would highly recommend to anyone looking to tour NT.

Overall, an excellent trip. The drivers/guides were very knowledgable and the accommodation and coaches provided were both very comfortable. The agenda makes good use of the limited time available and I felt overall this was pretty good value for money

Well-planned itinerary which gives good experience of the "red center". Great sunset (wine table) and sunrise viewings. AAT Kings is a well-organized tour operator with comfortable buses and capable driver/guides. Special mention for driver Phil, good English easy to understand, with excellent knowledge of flora, fauna and indigenous customs, the Kings Canyon floor walk was a pleasure._br/_ It isn't clear what "Budget Accomadation" at Kings Canyon means -- shared accomodation is not really shared, it is a room with no facilities, the toilet and washroom is 20meters away in a separate block. Really for backpackers, which the descriptiom doesn't make clear.

Loved the Sunrise at Uluru and the sunset too. On different days. At the sunrise they had hot drinks and cookies. At the sunset wine and chips and dips. So unexpected and well done. Totally enjoyed the hikes through the canyon and outback. The guide was so knowledgeable and answered all questions. We also saw a demonstration by Aboriginese on the use of tools and other implements. Just fascinating. I also purchased an original painting. Just beautiful. Great trip. Well planned and run. The Hotels were also great. No complaints had a great time.

Excellent tour that provides the opportunity to admire both the natural wonders of Red Centre and the aboriginal culture. Kings Canyon offer the most spectacular views.

Even when cloudy, the grandeur of Kata Tjuta and Uluru are impressive. The ATA King team was excellent throughout. The "budget" accommodation were fine, especially since there was almost no time to spend in them--there was always someplace to go or to be.

The trip to Kata Juka and Ayers Rock on the the second day of the tour was wonderful. The Rock is quite a sight and the guide who conducted the tour of the base was outstanding. We enjoyed seeing Kata Juka almost more than Ayers Rock. The King's Canyon tour was equally as interesting and the sights just as awesome. The two hotels (Sails in the Desert and the King's Canyon Lodge) were both as good as described with beautiful rooms and comfortable beds. Unfortunately the area is in the middle of nowhere and, as a result, the food was outrageously expensive though it was good.

Amazing locations, knowledgable and interesting tour guide. Acommodation OK, but make sure you specify twin or double rooms at Kings Canyon resort - my son and daughter would not share a bed and the only option was to upgrade.

Tony, the guide, was very knowledgeable about aboriginal culture which made the tour a success. The accommodation was great and the evening in Kings Canyon most entertaining. However, we sat out on our balcony to enjoy the sunset and the arrogant neigbours started smoking which sent us indoors. Smoking should be banned in and around the units. There is plenty of space in the wilderness where the smokers to go. The walk along on the Kings Canyon river bed was magnificient with all the wild flowers in bloom.
