Ayers Rock Day Trip from Alice Springs Including Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Sunset BBQ Dinner

Alice Springs, Australia

Journey into the heart of Central Australia with two expert guides to experience the wonders of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta National Park, sacred sites of the local Aboriginal people. Explore the spectacular scenery around Uluru, Kata-Tjuta, enjoy the Mutitjulu Waterhole and Mala guided walks and visit the Cultural Centre to learn about Aboriginal traditions and history. This all-inclusive tour includes buffet breakfast at Erlanda Roadhouse and lunch, an Aussie barbecue during the sunset at Uluru and snacks throughout the day.

Your all-inclusive, full-day tour starts with early morning pickup from your Alice Springs hotel. Travel through the West MacDonnell Ranges on your comfortable air-conditioned coach to Erldunda Roadhouse where you have your first rest stop for a buffet breakfast.

Arrive around mid-day in Yulara where your guides provide a packed lunch to eat during the drive to the World Heritage-listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Then start your first walk of the day at Walpa Gorge, a distance of 1.5 miles (2.6km). Along the way, get an amazing perspective on the stunning dome-shaped rock formations of Kata-Tjuta, a sacred site of the Aboriginal people.

After your walk, visit the Cultural Centre, built with the help of local Aboriginal people. Learn from informative displays and your guide about the Aboriginal Pitjantjatjara people and the natural and cultural history of the area.

Next, head to the base of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and your guide will lead you on the Mala Walk, which follows the northwest face of Uluru. During the walk, see fine examples of Aboriginal rock art, marvel at sheer vertical rock walls and hear stories of the Aboriginal people.

Back at the coach, drive around Uluru to reach a short track that leads to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. Take a short guided walk to the waterhole, which legend says is home to an ancestral water snake named Wanampi. Learn from your guide about Aboriginal customs as you take in the shimmering pool of water and surrounding red rock.

Now for the highlight of the day, head to the Uluru sunset viewing area for an Aussie barbecue. Watch the magnificent colors of the sunset at Uluru as you sip a glass of bubbly and feast on tasty tucker (food).

After sunset, reboard your coach for your return to Alice Springs.

Booked through Viator and provided by Emu Run Experience. Long day but worth it for a once in a lifetime experience! The bus was large, very comfortable and had a toilet room on board!. Well run tour with plenty of bathroom stops along the way. Breakfast was about 2 hours after tour start at a small café and was very good variety. Lunch was sandwiches on board the bus and not so great chicken wrap with cucumbers and carrots but not much taste. Our guides were great at keeping us informed and building the excitement to spot Uluru. Also very good at providing history and other site related information. Fair amount of walking on this tour and a lot of it in red sand so recommend not wearing shoes you want to keep clean. Also a bit chilly in early July, especially in the evening at the BBQ. BBQ dinner appeared to be pre-cooked steaks and sausages re-heated on the grill as well as a variety of salads lettuce salad, pasta salad, potato salad, etc.. Drinks were champagne and some orange juice. All in all the crew did a fantastic job given the size of the group and the time constraints of this tour.

A VERY long day out but guides kept their sense of humour to the last. Unfortunately weather was poor so no sunset or stunning colours to see but that wasnt the fault of the tour. Good bbq at the end before a very long drive back to Alice. This tour was 18 hours total so good job coach was comfortable and could sleep on the way back.

Longest day trip ever from 6.00am to 01.00am next morning. The Tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic and they really made it a good experience. The flies at Uluru are a real nuisance, so take a face net although even that is annoying. Overall, glad we went but very tiring.

This was an excellent experience albeit making for a very long day from 6 AM pickup to 12:45 am drop off. The vendor was Emu Run Experience and our tour guide team consisted of Eric and Maddie who were both extremely well versed about the terrain in the outback, Kata Tjuta, and Uluru as well as the culture and customs of the local Aborigines, the Anangu. They shared the responsibility for driving, had great stories and with a fair number of jokes were entertaining as well. We were well fed with breakfast, lunch, and a barbeque dinner at the base of Uluru and many snacks in between. They also made sure we remained well hydrated throughout in the 90 degree Farenheit heat. The views of Ulura at different times of the day including sunset are unforgettable and they also made the 5 hour drive each way from Alice Springs enjoyable as well. Overall a great tour with a great guide company- which we discovered from the locals is the tour company to the rock most recommend to their guests as well.

A long day out to the rock and thanks for the drivers/guides that made every effort to make it a good day. _br/_ We saw the Uluru and the Kata Tjuta and had three short walks around in the area._br/_ The dinner were great with some good wine, a good way to see the rock and get a nap on the way home._br/_ A lot of flies, they do not bite but are annoying so bring a mosquito net for your hat.

All the hotels close to Uluru were fully booked by the time we made up out minds about visiting the Red Center. Fortunately, this one-day tour was a truly viable alternative. Ayers Rock is far from Alice Springs, but the tour company was well prepared for a long, stressful day for the staff. With three driver-tour guides, one was always resting, while the other two were either driving or keeping us tourists entertained with information and friendly banter. Once we arrived at Ayers Rock, we were able to see the beautiful gorge at Kata Tjuta in the late morning. The guide books recommend a late afternoon visit, but considering the time constraints, some compromise had to be made. We saw just enough of the area around Ayers Rock to get a balanced impression of the culturally important aspects of the site. We saw rock overhangs with paintings and bas-relief carvings and a pool which has ritual significance, and we were able to get up close to the rock itself. I was not impressed by the sunset meal, but the other members of our tour group seemed to enjoy it. All told, this is truly a wonderful option to the very high prices for hotel rooms close to Uluru, and we had the added advantage of being able to do some shopping in Alice Springs and to visit the wonderful museums there.

Had an amazing time on this trip it was very well organized, but also a very long day. It was definitely worth doing with a tour especially if you don't plan on renting a car because of the distance. I really enjoyed the sunset dinner and champagne while watching the different colour/hue changes of the Rock.

A truly fantastic adventure. An early pick up at 6.10am followed by a 2 hour drive and then breakfast. This was typical roadside fare, Aussie style, and pretty filling. Arrived at Kata Tjuta and walked up the rock trail to have a closer look. But this is a massive rock formation and is better viewed from a distance. At Uluru there is a short walk through the cultural centre to learn a bit of local history. We then walked round the base of Uluru, saw rock paintings and heard more about the dreamtime. The BBQ was very good, so was the bubbly!_br/_ At sunset the colours of Uluru change from orange to brown and back. But truthfully, the sunset itself was much better.

Very long day on a standard bus - you will be kind of sore at the end of the day. However, many good stops to allow that you have a chance to stretch. The hosts fill up a part of the time with interesting commentary but not all. Had a great tour of the Rock itself and a very nice dinner. Would do it again or even better go from the village at Ayers Rock instead of Alice.

We were well fed and watered the whole trip! All you need to bring is a 500 ml. bottle as they provided the water. Fly nets ,sun cream and good walking shoes are necessary. We saw all the sites as listed although I would have preferred a little more time at the cultural centre at Uluru._br/_ The guides were informative and helpful, this was a English speaking tour and a lot of people could not understand the commentary as English was not their first language this resulted in these people talking to each other in their own language at one point I had to ask them to stop as I couldnt hear the guide.

This is the ultimate Red Centre day trip.._br/_ We drove for 4 hours through the red desert to Kata Tjuta and Uluru. _br/_ Even saw wild Emus and Camels!_br/_ The two lads who took the tour were brilliant and made sure we stayed hydrated the whole day. The bbq as the sun set over Uluru was the highlight.

A long day, but worth the effort. The only problem was that the bus driver turned back about l/2 hour into the trip to pick up two people at a hotel in Alice Springs and that made the day even longer. That being said, we are happy we took this tour and learned about Uluru.

A great tour to Uluru - started early in the morning and stopped smack bang in the middle of Oz for a hearty breakfast - After breakfast we continued on our journey - long straight roads and finally we saw a red rock in the distance - not Uluru so some fun had by all. The tour guides were light hearted, safe drivers and v informative. The tour around the Olgas Kata Tjuta was fantastic - some great photo opportunities. Uluru next and again commentary was v informative. Great to walk around and view this huge monolith. Then off to our site for dinner and watch the sunset over Uluru. The boys prepared a delicious meal with wine to accompany - beautiful images of Uluru during the sunset and then back to Alice Springs. Certainly recommend this trip for anyone with limited time to spend at Uluru and Olgas. Emu Experience tour guides were great.

A really great tour. I especially liked the guides/drivers. They knew their stuff and did an excellent job keeping the atmosphere light and fun. It's an early rise and a late after midnight return for the 1 day tour, but well worth it. Thanks again Mike, Pete and Eric! And of course the awesome views of Uluru and a peek into the Anangu culture was great. I'm definitely coming back to spend more time there.

An amazing day, though it's also been quite exhausting and a really long day. We had lots of fun with our tour guides, who could answer all the questions of us silly tourists. All the offered food was really good, Sunset BBQ was amazing - best view ever!!

It's a long day trip from Alice Springs, but our driver/guide kept us entertained and informed, and made rest stops. Once at Uluru, we were joined by a local guide, who gave us a tour there. It was a fascinating place, and we had ample time to take it all in before the Sunset BBQ dinner. Unfortunately, the day was rainy very rare there! and we didn't get to see a sunset. We did have the dinner, but it was slightly less than we were expecting, although adequate, and with wine! We didn't have a table that had any cover, but luckily it didn't rain during the time we had to eat.

Excellent day trip. We were picked up from our hotel at 6am and we got back at midnight so it was a long day but well worth it and the time passed quickly with a stop for breakfast and other interesting stops. We had two drivers and both were friendly and gave interesting commentries on route. Ayers Rock at Uluru is spectacular close up and the history and customs of the indigenous aboriginal people is facinating.

Great knowledge and tour of sites. More than just the Rock but the history, of the area, plants, animals, and cultural experience was excellent. Our kids even learned something. Experience will be a great memory for our family, and happy we decided to take part in the tour.

We had a great time in Alice Springs - we found the history was very interesting of course we did the long day trip to Uluru , not realising that it was 450 km away. Trips down the ranges and several water holes was fantastic - will be going back sometime.

It was the 1st time i book a tour and i will never do that again. Let s be fair... if you like to be herded with 30 plus people, on a strict schedule, bad food then this is for you. I do not. The ad sounded so much like personal time, adventure etc... my mistake i should know better. To top it off the bus in the morning boarded the wrong passengers and left without checking their vouchers no, i know what you are thinking, we were on time, the others were early. Fortunately the tour that that the other couple had booked realized the mistake and took us on board to meet at the breakfast place all the tours have the same itinary by the way. When we rejoined our tour, no break for us, it was their mistake but we paid the price by having a miserable breakfast in the bus because the group had theirs already. The road was uneventful, with the driver/guide mumbling in his microphone... incompreansible. No kidding. The Uluru tour, ha! ... What a view... from the bus window. We are on schedule. Bathroom every hour actualy i did not mind that and more of them than stops at Ayers Rock. Guided tour... let s move we are on schedule. If you like to take photos, i do, don t expect more than a facebook quality one with plenty of people in your frame, maddening. The return was uneventful with a really dumb movie to shut us up and a bus scaring the cars on the road because... we were on schedule. Again this is not for me, i know that now. It might be yours, no irony here and in this case it will please you. I booked another one in Cairns and after posting this warning to travellers who like freedom and time to discover i will go online and cancel it. So why 2 stars? 1 star for my experience 3 stars for what is advertized. Average then is 2 stars.

WOW, what can I say from the moment I was picked up from Quest Alice Springs where I was staying to the moment I was dropped off I had a fantastic day. Emu Run Tours made the long trip to Uluru very enjoyable.Tony and Gavin the tour drivers and guides were very professional, attentive and had a very friendly manner. They looked after everyone on board. Never short of refreshments and lots of foods to eat during the tour. The best was left at the end when we all had a yummy bbq, relaxing with a glass of bubbly and watching the sunset zoom down onto the rock displaying the changing of colours, it left us all speechless. Highly recommend the Day trip with Emu Run Tours.

This is an extremely long day - not for the faint of heart but it totally worth it. The pick up and drop off was done on time - the tour guides who also played the drivers and cooks etc, were very nice..helpful and fun! Although it was not written, they do provide breakfast as well and a lot of snacks along the way so there really is no need to carry any food! Water - they provide plenty of it in coolers so remember to keep filling those bottles. We had a great time and even saw the stars in the night which was an extra special treat!
