Uluru (Ayers Rock) and The Olgas Tour Including Sunset Dinner from Alice Springs

Alice Springs, Australia

Get the full Ayers Rock experience on this day trip from Alice Springs to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. World Heritage-listed Uluru, the large sandstone rock formation in the heart of the Australian Outback, is home to Aboriginal art, mysteries and legends. See and learn about it all on guided walks around the base of the rock, plus visit another large rock formation, Kata Tjuta (aka the Olgas). End your experience with a buffet dinner and sparkling wine at sunset, when the changing colors of Uluru make the place even more magical.

Your day trip to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park starts in the early morning when you depart Alice Springs by air-conditioned coach. Head southwest on Highway 87, passing by the West MacDonnell Ranges. After about an hour and 15 minutes of driving, stop at Stuarts Well, a typical Outback roadhouse where you will enjoy a light or hot breakfast.

Back on the bus, traverse the remote landscape of endless Outback plains, enjoy a view of Mt Ebenezer and stop for morning tea (typically a cool drink or hot billy tea, served with a lamington, a traditional Aussie cake) at the Mt Conner lookout point. Continue the drive to Uluru, admiring sand ridges covered in desert oak trees and watching for huge road trains (semi trucks pulling several trailers of freight).

When you arrive at Uluru, a UNESCO World Heritage site known as Ayers Rock in English, you’ll take part in several activities that will introduce you to the history, culture and geology of this massive sandstone rock formation. Enjoy guided walks around the entire base of Uluru while learning about its legends; hear about Tjukurpa art on the Mala walk; see Aboriginal rock art on the walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole; and hear about the customs and bush food of the Anangu people.

Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to learn more about Aboriginal culture and art, and then head to Kata Tjuta (also known as Mt Olga or the Olgas), the other large rock formation in the national park, for more walking along trails that lead to valleys and secluded watering holes. Return to Uluru in time for sunset, during which you'll soak up the glow of the sinking sun while you sip sparkling wine or juice and feast on a BBQ dinner of meats, salad and bread.

After dinner, make the 6.5-hour drive back to Alice Springs, where your day trip ends.

Wonderful experience, well worth the long day. Tour guides kept us informed, well fed and watered, plenty of interesting stops. We went for Uluru, the Olgas were a huge lol bonus, spectacular! Bus comfortable, great vision from within, bring a water bottle - bus carries cold water. Sunset dinner was lovely, highly recommend this tour.

This day trip was absolutely fantastic. Eric and Pete, our drivers/guides were brilliant! Sooo much information and knowledge on the area, it was fantastic. Well worth the very long day 18 hours. I would highly recommend this trip to everyone.

Despite I was told my tour booked did not have enough travelers so I was transferred to Emu Run. Surprisingly it was a satisfactory day trip. We had two guides/drivers whom are both very professional. They explained to us in very details about the tourist attractions, history and dreamtime stories. Very informative day. All meals were included during the day and they were not bad. We had nonstop flow of snacks and fruits in between. Everything was taken care of perfectly. I would definitely recommend Emu Run to other friends who are traveling to Uluru.

Our guides for the day were Matt and Luke._br/_ It is a long day but they were organised, enthusiastic, informative and helped us get the most out of our experience of visiting these sites._br/_ We now know more about camels than we ever would have dared to ask or expect!_br/_ As for dinner, they cooked up a storm before the sunset and next we off on the journey back to Alice with the Wanderers!!

The tour was well organized and executed. The guides were very knowledgeable and well versed in the Australian culture and commons. We were well taken care of with food and drink. The sunset viewing of Uluru and the BBQ was outstanding. If you can not afford the high pricing of staying out at the Rock then this is the tour for you.

An absolutely fantastic trip! It was a long day but I wouldn't change a thing. All of the stops were great and just the right amount of time. The driver and guide were both fantastic. The BBQ at Uluru for sunset was icing on the cake. Very glad we did it!

If you're on limited time and want to experience Uluru and the Olgas - this is the tour to take. Richard and Luke led the tour for the day. They were friendly, informative and organized. Their knowledge and attention our safety and comfort was highly appreciated. The bus was a slightly older vehicle, but really comfortable for a very long day's outing. Meals were good. Breakfast at the first road-house was good. Hot and delicious. The stops were well placed to make the 5 hour journey to Uluru seem much less far. Uluru and the Olgas are fascinating. I am so glad we did this trip to learn more about the Aboriginal culture and see a little of what this incredible place is about. Highly recommended.

The guides were excellent and we learned a lot about the area as well as doing some of the shorter walks, all we could manage in the extreme heat!_br/_ The evening barbecue was good but the sunset experience disappointing._br/_ A very long but enjoyable day.

A fantastic tour, rather much bus riding for one day though. Educating guiding in the national park. The dinner was a disappointmment sausages.

We had a great time on the tour. Our bus driver/tour guides were fun and interesting. It was a bit long of a drive after having two long tours before we had this one, but we totally enjoyed our time.

A LONG day trip, and what FANTASTIC one. Picked up on time on a really nice air condition bus. The drivers were really good, knew lots about the area, did not feel rushed, plenty of time to soak it all up and good food too.

This was generally excellent. GrayLine and EMU combined to provide a service with EMU RUN, owing to lack of numbers._br/_ They completely spoilt us from beginning to end, kept us both well nourished and hydrated throughout the day during the intense heat._br/_ Bumped into people coming over with AAT King who seemed to have done nothing in comparison to us._br/_ We covered Mount Connor, walked in the gorge at Kata Tjuta, visited the Aboriginal Centre, walked around strategic points of Uluru itself and had an abundance of bubbly, food, good company and amazing pictures._br/_ Only minor criticism was that the guide taking us around Uluru did more talking than walking, which was frustrating to most people._br/_ Definitely do this tour with EMU Run. They are the best of the 3.

Prepare yourself as this is going to be a long day._br/_ You leave Alice at 6am and will not arrive back at your hotel until 12am....but it really is worth it._br/_ It was a brilliant day taking in some absolutely incredible sights. The Olgas and Uluru are just amazing....they really do have to be seen to be believed._br/_ At the end of the day you get taken to the observatory area where we enjoyed a nice barbecue before watching the sunset and witness the changing of colours on Uluru._br/_ Tip !!! If you choose to spend the entire journey there on your smartphone and social media then you will really miss so much. TURN IT OFF !

The desert was beautiful to see in the spring and we had several opportunities to hike around sites. The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was decent for being on the road and looked better than what some other tour groups were getting. I highly recommend this tour.

Dave was brilliant.... the bus old but comfortable and clean.... the itinerary was tight but still very good and Dave's commentary was knowledgeable and concise._br/_ The extra effort to organise a pizza for my autistic son's lunch was very much appreciated and Dave's attention to detail at the evening meal was outstanding._br/_ I would recommend this tour

Review by:   Lesley Jean w,    July 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
the bus drivers were very good but the bus had no seat belts, everywhere we went we only had a limited time as they had to get going to the next stop._br/_ I thought I had booked to see the light installation but it seemed I had not so I was disappointed with that._br/_ The drivers did the best that they could in the time they had.

If you are only in central Australia for a short period this tour enables you to see all that the Olga's and Uluru have to offer. Both drivers were friendly and a wealth of knowledge . It certainly didn't feel like an 18 hour day plenty of stops along the way , the meals provided were tasty and well prepared. Highly recommend!

An amazing day that went extremely quick with guides David and Andrew. Their cultural knowledge was excellent and kept everyone engaged throughout the day. A tip for future travellers would be to ensure that you take at least 100 AU to pay for local paintings and artworks at Uluru and Cultural Centres. We only brought 50 with us and didn't allow for much options in terms of purchases. _br/_ It was disappointing to see travellers ignore the requests of the indigenous to not climb Uluru so please bare that in mind that it is extremely disrespectful to climb when requested not to despite the fact that it is still allowed.

We were hosted by Tony and Gavin from Emu Run. The tour to ULURU and The Olgas Tour was NOTHING LESS than awesome....and we credit Tony and Gavin for this memorable tour from start to finish. They were very knowledgeable with all the places of interest, top notch professionals with handling of the tour and were very attentive to our comfort and needs. Uluru and the National Park are wonders and should not be missed!

An extraordinary tour. It started very early in the morning and included an interesting commentary from the two drivers as we drove from Alice Springs to Uluru and spent the entire day and half the night. There was not a dull moment on this interesting and exciting tour. They really should have warned us though about the flies!

We booked with Alice Wanderer but got moved to EMU RUN and loved every minute. Our guides Gavin and James were so knowledgeable and interactive, food was great and we had the best trip ever. The 18 hour trip went by easily because of the great organisation and care that they took of us.

This was a very long day, riding a bus. We left from Alice Springs. Not much to see until you get to Ayers Rock, but it was worth seeing. The sunset dinner was very good and so were the tour guides. The flies were horrible. We wore fly nets, and that helped a lot.

It is really a worthy trip! Our guide Katie and Andrew are so nice and giving us lots of information about the place. The BBQ is wonderful, though the kagaroo steak is a little bit weird... We love the trip and my parents are having a great time here!

Very comfortable coach and both Maddy and Andrew our guides were very informative. This is a very long day but it was worth it. The barbecue and drinks at sunset was nice, as was the other food provided during the trip. The weather was very hot during the day. There was plenty of water available on the coach. Due to it being cloudy we did not get to see the full colour changes on the Rock at sunset. But this did not in anyway spoil the day.
