Sorrento and Amalfi Coast Independent Day Trip from Naples

Witness Italy’s most spectacular slice of coastline on this independent day trip to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast from Naples. Traveling by minivan, head to the clifftop resort of Sorrento, and explore its piazzas, shops and sights at leisure. Then, drive along the UNESCO-listed Amalfi Coast to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, with free time in each to shop, sightsee or enjoy lunch independently. Entrance fees and meals are at your own expense.
Meet your driver at your central Naples hotel or at Naples’ central train station. Then, board your air-conditioned minivan and head south to Sorrento, the clifftop resort just west of the UNESCO-listed Amalfi Coast, a 40-mile (64-km) chunk of shore famed for its steep cliffs and confetti-colored villages. On arrival in Sorrento, enjoy an hour of free time to explore this charming town as you wish. Perhaps stroll the winding lanes, enjoy the bars and shops in the central square, Piazza Tasso, or check out the majestic 15th-century cathedral — it’s entirely up to you. Then, rejoin your minibus and keep your camera ready as you drive along the Amalfi Coast, tracing its winding cliffside road between lemon groves and the sparkling Mediterranean on route to Positano. Wedged between cliffs, Positano’s pastel houses fall steeply down to the sea, forming one of the Amalfi Coast's scenic highpoints. Arrive in the town and use an hour of free time here to perhaps shop at the chic boutiques and galleries, relax over coffee, or admire the Church of St Maria Assunta, famous for its tiled dome. Next, arrive in the town of Amalfi and enjoy another hour to explore its sights at your leisure. Perhaps visit its striking 9th-century cathedral, browse the many shops hidden in the lanes or enjoy lunch (own expense) at one of the tempting restaurants. Your final stop is the town of Ravello, higher up the cliffs. With an hour of free time here, maybe look around the impressive cathedral or visit the 13th-century Villa Rufolo (own expense), whose cliff-hugging gardens serve up jaw-dropping coastal views. Afterward, drive back to Naples, where your trip ends at your original departure point or any city center location of your choosing.

We took the fast train from Rome to Naples and when we got there the tour bus was waiting for us at the easy to find designated location just outside the train station. Antonio, our driver and guide was very good and pleasant. Because it is a long, winding road, we only had about 1 hour in each of the 4 towns we visited, but we found that was enough time to shop or get a quick bite to eat. This was a great way to get to see many beautiful places on the coast all in one day. We arrived back at the Naples train station with plenty of time to catch our train back to Rome. So glad we took this tour.

We were picked up 40 minutes late- waited whole time in hot sun at pick up point wondering when they would arrive. Had to call Viator. Apparently Monday am construction and re routed traffic was the cause. _br/_ Best part of this independent tour is having someone else drive the very long and windy roads on edge of cliffs of the coast. Other nice thing is you get an hour in each of the 4 cities of Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, and Rovello on your own so you make this what you want it to be. Not sure need to include Rovello as little there to do and see. Would rather have had more time at other cities but as it was, an hour is really enough time to get a feel for each town and do some shopping and exploring. _br/_ Would not recommend if you get car sick easily as the tiny mountain roads literally wind back and forth and back and forth the whole time once off the highway. Lunch is on your own as is everything else. Very little if any direction from the driver as he is not a tour guide. If you like independent exploring, this is a tour for you.

This trip was the highlight of our holiday to Naples. The trip was well planned making sure you were able to see all of the highlights of the Amalifi Coast within one day which is exactly what we wanted. The driver was very nice and friendly and gave us interesting facts along the route. Would definitely recommend.

No words to explain how wonderful this tour was - even despite the horrible weather. Our guide, David, was amazing and such a good driver through the winding roads. Not once did I feel nervous or worried. It was lovely driving through the entire coast throughout the day and getting to explore different locations. He recommended things for us to do/try at each stop. We had lunch at a delicious restaurant on a cliff overlooking the water with food that I still dream of. This was one of our favorite days during our 9 day trip through the Mediterranean.

The reason I’m only giving it 4 stars not 5 is because I really feel you need more than an hour in each town. I thought the driver (Ciro) was extremely accommodating, as I was a bit scared to get car sick. He also took us to a lovely restaurant with an exceptional view. Lovely!

Absolutely do NOT book, if your travel plans are not set in stone. The company finds reasons to charge you extra fees I paid euros 20 and pick up option is not reliable. If I've a way to give the company negative reviews, I would. Our tour guide Antonio and scenic views are the best parts of the experience.

Our driver was very nice and we enjoyed touring the 4 cities. In each city we had enough time to walk around, grab something quick and even see a few sights - the Cathedral in Amalfi is worth checking out.

This was an independent tour in that we visited 4 Amalfi Coast towns departing from Naples. Well worth the trip because the towns and scenery are incredibly beautiful. The minibus was not very comfortable, but our driver was great on the twisty roads. A great taste of the Amalfi coast. We had spent time there before, but took our granddaughter on a spring break trip. Lovely!

This trip was one of the highlights of my stay around Naples. Taking an independent trip means you don't have to look or plan for transport and that takes a lot of stress out of the trip. Mauro was a wonderful driver and always ready to help. What a pleasure to sit back and watch him negotiate the heavy traffic, the hairpin bends and the narrow roads. The other benefit is that when you arrive at a town, Mauro would point you in the direction of where you want to go and you choose what you want to see or do in each town. You don't have to do what others want to do but explore on your own. A win win in my books :

The tour was good. 8 hours to cover 4 of the most beautiful towns of Italy is a bit of a stretch, especially if its a busy day on road. Good enough to click some amazing pictures of the towns. But if you want some time exploring the towns, then catch this tour in low season as there would be lesser traffic on the road. Another recommendation is to take a seat at the right hand side, otherwise you will miss out a lot of the beautiful scenery, as on your left hand side you will find mostly the hills and on the right will be the sea.

This was an outstanding decision to take this Sorrento and Almafi Coast tour! We were picked up at our hotel. I appreciate that the driver remembered our request to sit up in the front part of the van. There were 7 of us in the van. Great driver who was a tour guide to us, as well. The best part is that this was this is the easiest way to get to all the towns and sights on the Amalfi Coast in a day. Our driver stopped at special scenic over watch locations on the road to take some beautiful pictures of all the towns along the way. I highly recommend this day trip for anyone who is in Naples and wants to see the Almafi coast.

What a shame picked up With a van rather than a mini bus limited your views. with a van rather than a mini bus limited your views._br/_ Driver had limited knowledge of English or Spanish language Did not introduce himself until we were in the second city. We sat in the second row but had limited conversation with him as he directed all his conversation to a single woman passenger in the front seat . We had to asked several times to turn down the heater in the bus or open the front window since we did not have any windows that we could control. Failed to stop at key locations for photos rather pull the van over the side of the road and open the sliding doors to allowed us to take photos rather than getting outside the van. Very short amount of time allocated per city was no information given as to what we were looking at or where to go . This caused us to be 20 minutes late in return from lunch because we were told we had two hours allocated for lunch and view of the city . Just a bad day a bad tour a poor driver/guide And a waste of money. Asking the company for a refund lets see how that goes

The driver was prompt, an expert driver and polite. He allowed for time in each of the 4 cities. I would recommend this tour for anyone like myself who does not want to drive. The driving in Naples is scary and roads on the coast are narrow. We had to back up twice after making a turn because of big travel buses.

On a warm sunny day this trip is perfect. The programme allows you sufficient time to explore the towns without feeling rushed. As this is not a guided tour, you do not have to stick to the group, and can freely spend the one hour in each town sighting seeing, eating and shopping as you wish. For our group, the driver was friendly and helpful, and would often stop by the road side to let us take pictures. Wonderful trip.

This small group trip was great. My wife and I joined 6 other people in a minivan that picked us up at our hotel and took us from Naples to Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, with about an hour of free time at each stop to enjoy the towns. Everything was perfect. The only slight improvement I would make would be to give 90 minutes in Amalfi which was the lunch stop because by the time we sat down, ordered, and received lunch, we only had about 15 minutes to see Amalfi itself. We could have cut some of the time from Ravello since it was almost all closed down for the season and 30-40 minutes would have been more than enough time there. The only other thing to be aware of, is that this is an independent tour. So there was really no input at all from our driver as to the history of the areas, or recommendations on where to go unless you specifically asked. IT would have been nice to get some general info while we were driving between towns. But we were still extremely happy with our choice of tours

It was a good trip overall. The coast is so beautiful it had to be a good trip! The driver was very helpful and professional. The minivan could have been more comfortable. Also, I felt rushed. Covering 4 places in one trip is difficult. But overall, it was a good trip!

Unforgetable experience! Everything went smoothly. The driver was informative and polite.He gave us tips about the places we visited and he stopped the vehicle to the best view points along costiera amalfitana in order to take photos of this magnificent region. I surely recommend it.

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip. It allowed us to see all the signs along the Coast in one day, unlike many other tours that don't go to all these destinations or combine a few of them with other destinations such as Pompeii that deserve a separate trip. Giovanni, our gracious and charming driver made the trip a wonderful experience. He drove expertly through challenging roads full of traffic without any stress or drama. I held my breath when a huge bus passed the opposite way with only inches to spare while Giovanni kept calm and brought us out of danger. Giovanni also arranged for us to take a break for lunch as a group in a breathtaking location, allowing us an unplanned hour to rest and relax while enjoying excellent seafood on the coast. This was an excellent trip. The bus driver, Anton, had great English, was very amusing, helpful, prompt and knew how to handle the chaotic traffic of Naples! The four places visited, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello give a really good flavour of the Amalfi coast._br/_ There were beautiful views all along the way. An hour in each place was a little short and we felt a bit rushed to try and see as much as possible, but there is a lot of time spent in traffic queues! You need a good pair of trainers and be prepared to do a lot of walking, have a camera ready at all times during the day and plenty of water... well worth the cost.

Definitely worth doing if you are limited to naples. The driver Antonio was lovely and added to the trip. It's not a lot of time in each place, but if you are limited to a few days then this trip will ensure you see a little bit of all the key coastal areas.

Pros: Beautiful sites to visit, clean Mercedes van, and a small group of 8 people_br/_ Cons: Too many sites to visit in short time so it was very hurried...got to stay up to one hour which is not enough time, recommend seeing Sorrento and Positano and skipping Amalfi and perhaps Ravello, would be nice to stay longer at a partivular site so you can have lunch and visit the city...otherwise you have only enough time to catch lunch and not see anything else. Driver Antonio was a little rude, would not really answer any questions and drove like a maniac...Many of us actually feared for our sfety with his driving.

This small group tour 8 people was OUTSTANDING!! Pick up for us was at a near-by major hotel along the Via Partenope, which was a short walk from where we were staying in Naples. Our van driver, Ciro, was on time...he was polite, he spoke very good English, and he pointed out interesting places along the way. The scenery along the drive was fantastic! We spent approximately one hour in the town of Sorrento, an hour in Positano, an hour in Amalfi, and an hour in Ravello. This was just enough time to walk around the main area of each town, or to scurry to the beach. In Ravello, it was enough time to take a walk around the cliff-side garden and grounds of Villa Rufolo. Lovely! I had downloaded an offline maps program on my cellphone before going to Italy, I had saved favorite spots in each town while still at home, and then used my GPS locator to help navigate each town when we arrived. This helped to prevent aimless wandering when we arrived. A highlight of this trip was the stop for lunch at a wonderful cliff-side restaurant with a patio that overlooked the sea. The owner of the restaurant was welcoming, the food was delicious, and the price was reasonable. We appreciated having a small group for this tour...it was well worth the money. We would highly recommend this tour, as it was a highlight of our trip to Italy!

Trip was good. It delivered everything as advertised. But to stop at each town for 50 mins isn't enough to explore Amalfi coast. Driver would ask you if you want him to arrange for lunch on the restaurant by the coast. The restaurant was good. But you will have to spend time there about 1.5 hrs. I would recommend to ask him to have lunch in town like Amalfi instead as you will have more time for people watch in restaurant there.

This was an amazing tour. I highly recommend taking this tour opposed to one of the larger tours because the big tour buses had difficulties passing each other on the one road that passes along the side of the city. The van we used was very comfortable and did not run into any issues. However, it is important to note that I did have a very negative interaction with the driver. I took this tour alone, and the driver was EXTREMELY unprofessional and inappropriate. He was so overbearing that he insisted we briefly walk away from the group so that he can show me something privately. I was hesitant, but I did not want to seem rude so I walked away with him where he asked if it would be ok to take a picture WITH me in front of the scenery. I was shocked, but said yes in order to just get out of this situation. He then noted that i should feel free to call him anytime if I ever need anything from him and to never take that beautiful smile off of my face, which made me want to throw up with disgust. He realized that i was uncomfortable and noted that oh American women always think Italian men are too flirty. I am not being flirty, I am being friendly. I was appalled that he even stated this to me and makes me feel as if other women have complained before. if there is a pattern, then this man should not continue working for this company. 1 of the other travelers on the tour realized he also had his wedding ring on! I'd be so appalled to know that my husband was making other women feel so uncomfortable by his lack of respect. At the beginning of our tour, I was picked up in between other passengers. I had told a couple that i was with that I felt like he was going to try and drop me off last so that he could be alone with me because he was being creepy. The couple advised that I get off with them if that's the case, but their hotel was far away from mine. Surprise surprise, I realized that he bypassed the area my hotel was located near and started dropping off other passengers that were picked up before me. I asked him why he passed my stop and he said it would be easier to drop me off last before he heads home. I was appalled and told him to let me off where we were and I'd head back on my own. He responded that I was a 15 minute walk back to the hotel, or I would have to walk to the metro or take a cab if i did not stay in the car. Please tell me why I should have to pay for a cab to head back to the hotel because the driver was so inappropriate? The tour itself was amazing, but the fact that this driver was so inappropriate left a sour taste in my mouth. Especially commenting that American women always think... Um, I'm pretty sure if your wife heard this story and checked your phone for the picture you took, she'd think you were inappropriate as well. The driver's name is Antonio, and I have his phone number if needed as well,.

This was the only tour that I could find online that included a stop in Positano as well as the other main centres on the Amalfi coast. The tour ended out to be exactly what I wanted. It was a small group that was easy to accommodate in a van. This cut the time used for loading and unloading passengers and left all the time in each town for exploration. The driver was careful, pleasant and well-informed. I was very thankful not to have to drive the route myself as the traffic was bumper to bumper pretty well all the way. My only suggestion for improvement might be to build in a pause at two or three scenic spots for photographs.

Our tour guide wa Antonio and he was very good. We visited Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. In each location we got free time to explore and our guide gave recommendations on what to do and see. Our guide indicated if the group chose, he could recommend a lunch spot overlooking the sea. The vote was unanimous and the location, between Positano and Amalfi was inspirational and the food was good too.

This tour is a must see for anyone wanting to see the Amalfi Coast and did not stay in that area. It is so beautiful and breath taking. We had a super time with our tour guide Adriano. He was very informative about our tour and also assisted us with questions about the Naples area as well. He is an amazing tour guide and driver. The Amalfi Coast road is beautiful but you need to be an experienced driver to handle the twists, turns, crazy drivers and large buses you encounter, he did an amazing job! Thank you Adriano and Viator!

Great tour. Great driver. We saw all and more of the Amalfi Coast than what we expected. What a great place to live!_br/_ Pity everyone couldn't get their stuff together and return to the bus on time. We missed our booked train back to Rome by 5 minutes because people were not back at the bus on time from all the awesome places we went. Cost an extra 90 euro to get back to Rome that day. Note to all: I thought I booked a later train than we needed. Allow extra extra time if booking a train to get a cheaper price. Paid for 2 trains only road 1:
