Go on a historical tour to the best preserved Roman Ruins site of Jordan. Start by traveling to the north of Jordan through the Jordan Valley to visit Um Qais, the ancient town of Gadara. Here you can overlook the sea of Tiberias, the Golan heights and the Yarmuk gorge.
Then proceed to Pella (Also known in Arabic as Tabaqat Fahl) is considered one of the most outstanding historical sites on the map of Jordan tourism, it rich in Archaeological monuments that go back to the Antiquity. During this period Pella was one of the ten cities making up the Decapolis.
Last and not least off to visit Jerash, one of the largest and most well preserved sites of Roman architecture in the world to this day. Jerash has paved streets with the classic architecture of colonnades, famous hilltop temples, beautiful theaters, wide public squares and plazas, baths, fountains and city walls. Many of the attractions are still in exceptional condition.
You will be picked up at 7.00am for this 10 hour historical tour to the best preserved Roman Ruins site of Jordan. You will be driven to visit Um Qais. This is where the Ottoman Governor’s House has been restored and opened as a museum; the surrounding area offers views over the Northern Jordan Valley, the Sea of Galilee, and the Golan Heights. You will walk the docomanos street that leads to the theater, different to other Roman Theatres.
Proceed to the basilica, church, to see its octagonal altar which was a temple. Continue to the main street Cardomaximo which means the main street. The direction of this street is from east to west, usually the roman streets are from north to south. It is a unique roman city different than Jerash another roman city in Jordan worth the visit.
From Um Qais you will be driven to Pella. It is a village in North West of Jordan located to the East of Al Masharih town; the city was constructed in the Hellenistic Era in the time of Alexander the Great. The first literary reference to the city is from the 19th century BC when it is mentioned in Egyptian texts as Pihilum, or Pehel. It was a flourishing trade center, with links with Syria and Cyprus as well as Egypt. On the division of Alexander's Empire, its name was later Hellenized to Pella, in honor of Alexander's birthplace.
In the 7th century AD, Pella was captured by Arab armies and was a significant city in the Umayyad Empire for over 100 years. But in 747 AD, Pella (along with much of Jordan) was destroyed by a huge earthquake. Only a small, rural community lived here afterwards, during the Mamluk and Abbasid periods. Off to visit Jerash - The most complete and well preserved city of the Roman Empire. Jerash is one of the Decapolis cities to the north of Amman. During the Roman Empire it was often called “Pompoeii of the East”. Alexander the Great first built Jerash in the 2nd century B.C. We will enter through the main gate of the city and visit its Oval Plaza, Colonnaded Street as well as it theaters, and temples. The choice is almost endless; seeing believes what Jerash has to offer. It is a journey in time!
After discovering all the sites you will be transported back to Amman.
