See small Petra in a 1 - 1 hour 30 minutes. Little Petra is the business quarter for Petra itself and is good to visit before the real Petra.
You will picked up from your hotel, then transferred to little Petra which is a 15-20 minute drive away. You can ask your driver to stop en route to have a view over the larger city Petra. The picture stop is just before the Bedouin village, and after you pass by the crusader castle.
When you arrive small Petra, first you see the big cistern (called Bier El Arayes by locals), then the Siq El bard (cool canyon - because it is mostly shaded) which has most facades cisterns. It is very interesting to see how they carve water channels through the rock to collect rain water to the bottom of the mountain, this technique is referred to as harvesting nowadays. This is all proof that little Petra was the commercial quarter for real Petra.
After seeing many artefacts you will be driven back to your hotel in Petra.
