Amsterdam Hop-On Hop-Off Canal Boat
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Getting around Amsterdam is a breeze with a hop-on hop-off Boat Day Pass. The boats operate a regular service along Amsterdam's canals, following tour routes: the Green Line and the Orange Line. While you cruise, an on-board commentary provides interesting information about Amsterdam.
You have the choice of a 24 hour or a 48 hour pass. Hop-on or off as often as you like at 7 to 9 stops (depending on the season) located near Amsterdam's major museums, attractions and shopping centers. Do you want to visit Heineken Experience or the Van Gogh Museum? Amsterdam Hop-On Hop-Off Boat offers optional upgrades to include access to the Heineken Experience or Van Gogh Museum.
In addition to the city’s buildings and canals, Amsterdam has been an important center for European arts since the 17th century, and its museums are among the best in the world. In the Van Gogh Museum, you’ll find the largest collection of the artist’s paintings. And the Heineken Experience is an interactive tour of the city’s most well-known brewery. You’ll even be able to brew your own beer!

Nice ride, very chill. The number of stops was a few less than I would have thought, but everything is so close that it wasn't a problem. Great way to bounce around the city and see the sites.

This is a great way to get around Amsterdam and avoid the bike traffic. Rides were smooth and relaxing. Loops were frequent and got you to the landmark places in Amsterdam.

Great way to see the different sites.

Not only was this tour educational, we were able to save money by using our hop-on hop-off pass, since it was valid for 24 hours. Instead of buying train tickets, we used the boat as our transportation.

The driver/guides kept stopping for breaks and to change drivers - couldn't do the full loop as it wasn't coming back to the beginning. Very disappointing and not worth the money.

We had 48 hour tickets - really handy to be able to use as a way to get about when your feet are tired. Gives you a different view of the city and commentary adds to the experience. Would have been even better had boats gone both ways or more frequently - we would have used it more.

Lovely experience. We took the tour in December, at night. There were Christmas lights in all the canals. It was magical.

Best way to get around Amsterdam if you are not familiar enough to rent a bicycle!!

This is OK but it could have been better. There is no individual earphone, all information about the city is recorded, it makes difficult to hear what it says without earphones.

Beautiful and relaxing way to get around the city, while learning some info.

Cruise stopped in museum area. Driver went for lunch break. Should let us know before boarding. We just wanted to travel the entire route.

Having access to the canal tour was a good way to learn some history, get great pics of architecture from the water and to get from one destination to another, i.e. the Anne Frank house, etc. I would advise sitting outside to get good pictures. I would also advise taking the tour one of two ways: 1 start earlier in the morning and use the boats as a way to get transportation all day long or 2 take the tour at the end of the day when you are tired and want to sit back and just observe. We did it at the end of the day and it was a lovely way to relax. The later afternoon sun slanting on the buildings lining the canal also gave great photo opportunities.

Great way to see Amsterdam but I wished the boat operator would have been more strict with a couple of passengers who stood in front of the boat, sticking their heads out during the trip and taking selfies of themselves - they were an unwelcome distraction to several passengers on the boat.

The Hop-On and Hop-off is very handy. However, it does not operate very timely, and does not start very early in the day at some points. I am sure this was probably due to we went early Sept. and they must not be operating as many boats. We were not able to take advantage of the boat because it was not operating at all points on route for much of the day.

Interesting places and thank you.

Great way to see the city, especially if the weather turns rainy, which Amsterdam is prone to do. The drivers are helpful and courteous. But be aware that the last stop times listed on the brochure may not be accurate. When I hopped off at the Anne Frank house, the last departure from there was listed as 6:45. I got back on the boat at 6:06 and the driver told all of us that was the last stop there for the day. If I had spend any longer there expecting to catch a 6:45 boat, I would have had to walk back to Cenral Station.

Booked 48 hour ticket. The first boat near us didn't leave until 10.30am and the last boat was too early. We would have liked the ticket to cover an evening cruise to see the canals at night.

A great way to see the city and life on the canals!

Sooooo worthwhile we arrived at Amsterdam Centraal, walked across the street and found the tour boat, I had e-tickets as I bought our tickets on line, we were received by a jovial person in the kiosk, who exchanged our ticket for another one, he gave us further info about how this worked, the captain was another very friendly person who made sure we got on board safely.......the tour was amazing, we saw more of Amsterdam then we had dreamt of, we got off at the Rijksmuseum, and other stops, no problems getting back on except having to wait for the next boat, which did not matter as there was lots to see just hanging around the dock we really got a sense of the outlay of the city I would highly recommend your wonderful services, well worth every penny!

The open top boats as pictured were not available. There was one boat out of order, had to climb through that boat to get to another. Great way to see the city. I noticed the staff was not helpful to each other.

Boat was very comfortable. I particularly enjoyed open-top as Day was warm and pleasant. Would there be any chance of considering a coffee bar/soft drinks ? Unfortunately not everybody was interested in listening to commentary and so was difficult to hear everything being said. How about individual headsets ? In spite of this the trip was very enjoyable and being able to use it on Day 2 was also great. Thank you.

Easy to use and we had the same fantastic driver twice - Brian I think he made it fun! Enjoyed the commentary as well.

This was a good way to get from point A to point B on my first day. However, I believe the boat and bus is more accommodating for longer stays. However this transportation got me from my hotel to Anne Franks in time for my scheduled tour.

Convenient and plenty of boats to get on/off with. Great way to see all the sights from the river while also using it for transportation to the major attractions. You can use this as your taxi plus see the river all for cheaper than a 1-hour river cruise typically costs. Most of the stops are very convenient to the locations. Would definitely recommend this to anyone. Look at the map before going so you can get a feel for the stops and which side of the river the boat goes on. It runs in a couple different circuits clockwise and counterclockwise so you just need to know which side of the river to go depending on which direction you're headed.

Easy to use and great tour guides. Makes seeing the beautiful homes from the canals a pleasure, with interesting comments about who lives in the homes and the history. Easy to hop off at all the spots and enjoy the attractions in a leisurely way...

Well worth experiencing! But my advise is to book the hop-on hop-off tours when you are in city and ready to use them. They will never run out of tickets and we purchased too many days throughout Europe that we didnʻt use. Also many companies doing same thing and you can pick the most covenient docking stations...

Great way to see Amsterdam. We hopped on and off several times during the day and the boat drivers were polite.

It was a great way to pass a long stop between flights. We got a beautiful overview of Amsterdam in a warm covered boat on a cool and rainy day. Greatly enjoyed it.

From the Amsterdam central bus station, we found the Hop-On-Hop-Off Canal. A man was at the kiosk, and exchanged a couples' voucher for tickets, then left, leaving a note on the door that he would be back in 10 minutes. He saw that we were in line, but left anyway. We waited over a half an hour. Then a canal boat docked, and we explained that we had the voucher, but no one was anywhere to exchange it for tickets. She allowed us to ride to the next station where she said someone would exchange our voucher for tickets. However, there was no one there for nearly an hour. Therefore, we walked to the next station, quite a ways. Again, there was no one to help us. A canal boat driver allowed us to get on with our voucher, and took us back to the central station. Needless to say, this was quite an inconvenience for our New Year's Eve outing. I suspect that the ticket personnel are paid little, or not monitored, and have no desire to stand in a booth to verify vouchers and exchange them for tickets. We were extremely disappointed in that, but the canal rides themselves were excellent clean, comfortable, extremely informative.

great for getting around, the 48 hour pass is about 3 pound more than the 24 hour pass. watch out for the captains lunch breaks, a round trip takes about 90 minutes without breaks. these breaks are identified on the timetable
