Both activities were very good and Skip the line at the Rijksmusem essential

A nice, mellow cruise along the canals with a final stop at the museum, where you wander on your own. Relatively inexpensive, well worth the money.

Finding the correct boat line was a bit of a challenge in an unfamiliar city, but our canal tour was relaxing and informative, and the museum amazing. Well worth doing!

We did the canal cruise upon arriving on an overnight flight exhausted and confused, the canal cruise was perfect for overview a nice relaxing moment. It gave us a really good orientation with how to proceed with our vacation. Skip the line tickets for Rijks was a MUST. We saved so much time!! Highly recommend this or any with additional skip the line tickets!

Tour was great, museum was great, but I didn't realize I had to pick up my vouchers at a certain location. So, when I got to the museum, I had to pay for tickets anyway. Moral of the story, read and understand the small print.

Did not have a great experience with this skip-the-line tour first, it was not clear from the voucher that we needed to go to the tour company to get our Rijksmuseum ticket. It says that the voucher will be accepted as a ticket, but the museum did not accept it. Big waste of time to then go over to the tour operator, get the ticket, and then you still have to wait in line to actually get into the museum-- all you bypass is the ticket line which is pointless, because you still have to pick the ticket up. The museum itself is phenomenal, and the canal cruise was great too, just be aware that you have to book your canal cruise time as well, you cannot just walk up and present your voucher and hop on a boat.

A great way to see the city, however I was not over impressed with the Canal Cruise pre-recorded commentary, I thought it a bit corny - but no problem, each to their own

Very easy check in experience and pretty comfortable boat. The tour is automated, although the boat captain added a factoid or two that were interesting. The recorded tour is informative, but the little audio play they act out on the tour is pretty silly.

Very good tour, but would have been even better if there was an actual person doing the tour and one could have asked questions about the many sites we saw.

The entire process was easy. There is a Blue Boat office just behind the Rijksmuseum which makes exchanging the vouchers for the tickets very convenient._br/_ The only criticism I have is that the narration on the boat tour is absolutely annoying. Just stick to the facts instead of trying to create a sitcom between the 2 narrators.

Review by:   Del R,    September 2017 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
Second time for the canal cruise but still enjoyed it very much. Recommend longer cords for the narration. The person sitting furthest from the plug frequently disconnects if they move at all to see the sights, etc. Rijksmuseum was very interesting and having tickets ahead of time provided almost instant entrance.

Very well done tour of the city by boat. Then nice jump to front of the line at the Rijksmuseum, which is a must see. Everyone should start their visit to Amsterdam with a canal boat ride.

Can't wait to cruise Amsterdam's canals again. The museum building itself is a treasure, the treasures inside are eye-boggling!

We enjoyed the canal tour by boat. I did find the fake commentary from the pre-recording rather dated and the humour a bit cheesy. Would have been nicer if the commentary were live or second best, someone actually from Amsterdam. We did see a great deal of the city and the boat was very clean and comfortable. Rijksmusueum is very close to the boat dock so tickets were convenient.

We found it a little confusing because you have to take your voucher to the office which was a good distance from our B and B. They then give you tickets for the cruise. We were fortunate that we arrived early and were able to catch the boat leaving fairly soon after we arrived. We had a beautiful morning for the canal cruise which really made the ride very nice. Also, when you book on-line, you do have reserved tables up front, which you would not have if you just walked up and purchased tickets. The guide did a good job and the audio guide was clear and informative. Since we had the combo ticket, we walked to the Rijksmuseum, which was close by, and were able to go right in with the prepaid tickets. We opted not to purchase the audio guide because we felt we didn't need it. The exhibits were well written included English and adequate to understand what you were looking at. However, do go early and plan to spend most of the day and more if you want to see it all!! It is quite comprehensive and really amazing! After a while, you just can't absorb anymore! Would highly recommend it!

We loved the HOHO canal boats. With the Skip the Line tickets, we had no wait getting into any museums. Highly recommend.

Blue Boat tours is unprofessional mass tour provider. The staff is not friendly, rather rude and self centered. It was the first tour we took in Netherlands and if we didn't do this tour again with another tour provider we would miss on very interesting sights and informations about Amsterdam. First of all, while waiting in a long line to get our previously purchased tickets i asked the man who cut this line to enter the small office if he works there. Obviously i just wanted to ask him for information, not to rebuke him for skipping the line. He answered: What do YOU think? and entered the office. When he was going out I realized that it might be misunderstanding I told him that i just wanted to ask him...but i never had a chance to finish my sentence as he just looked at me and continued walking. So, we were waiting in the line, finally got our previously purchased tickets, and continued waiting to be seated. Once we finally stepped on the boat, we were given headphones, but there was no place left for us to sit, so we sat outside. There was no connector on the deck, so we were not able to listen to audio guide. Basically we payed for the boat ride - very long, useless boat ride. After the canal cruise ended i tried to approach one of the workers in the office by the dock to complain about our experience, but she was on a phone. So, i waited few moments... I was waiting for her to glance at me, but she was busy calling someone who wouldn't answer, and the phone she was holding in her left hand kept ringing. So, i tried saying excuse me few times, but she ignored me, so i raised my voice, and at that moment she started yelling at me that i should wait for her to finish her - whatever that was. I was so angry, but i left that office, trying to calm myself because our family vacation has just started. This experience almost ruined my impressions about Amsterdam and it's residents. I am thankful that there are many other professional tour providers who know what they are doing, so eventually we got to know this wonderful city._br/_ If possible i would rate the cruise zero stars, but this one star goes for their ability to provide Rijksmuseum tickets. Museum is amazing, and we're happy that at least that went well.

I would recommend an open boat tour without the glass top. Also, if traveling with children, note the Rijksmuseum is free for children and students under the age of 19.

The boat should not be closed, you cannot take nice pictures through the glass. Museum is nice.

The Rijksmuseum is a must if you visit Amsterdam. It is the Dutch National museum where we saw art works of Van Gogh and Rembrandt .The Canal cruise was located nearby and was a pleasant end to our day.Our only criticism is it was a bit difficult to find the office where tickets would be issued.Otherwise a great day was had by our party of 8.

Must spend time at the Rijksmusem and skip the line tickets are worth it. We spent over 4 hours there and only got through one floor. The audio is worth the cost. The best canal tour we took. Blue company is great. The one recommendation we would have is better directions with a map on how to find the ticket office.

The canal cruise was very informative and gives a different perspective of the buildings. One canal cruise is enough, however. We did an evening also and there were no lights. You don't need the ticket for the Rijksmuseum. You can just get one at the museum when you wish to go. However, allow a day or at least 3 hours for the museum. A lot of walking, the the master's floor on 2 should be your first stop.

That was pretty boring. Just a boat ride. Captain didn and #39;t talk much.

The canal cruise was great. The skipper of the boat was excellent - the audio tour guide was interesting and informative - leave the comedy to someone who can carry it off - lame._br/_ The museum is somewhat overwhelming in its size and scope. Lots of people including school groups so it is sometimes difficult to view the larger paintings. The museum staff are very helpful and most spoke English thankfully. _br/_ Suffering visual overload, I headed to the bistro and had a very enjoyable mushroom and chicken ragout and a glass of rose. I'd earned it.

If I had this to do again, I'd skip the Blue Boat tour entirely - the recorded tour narration ranges from tacky, insulting ugh, that Southern accent, to downright disturbing we think that the fictional couple that narrates the tour could use some marriage counseling. I would suggest booking a smaller boat with another company. _br/_ The Rijksmuseum is huge - give yourself a whole day to explore. It's definitely worth buying a skip the line ticket, as one can otherwise stand in line for hours to gain admission to the museum. We were pleased to discover that our tickets were good for any day that we were there, so we did the museum the day after the boat tour.

Good combination of two of the must do's for Amsterdam. Very flexible -- we visited the Blue Boat office on the afternoon of our arrival to see i we could pick up tickets to use the following day. No problem -- we could have chosen a canal cruise time then or returned the following day to choose a time that worked best ... and the Rijksmuseum tickets were good for any one day until April 2018! And the Rijksmuseum tickets are good for the whole day with in/out if you wish.

Easy to find the location where we had to redeem our vouchers for tickets. Canal cruise and commentary was great. Not sure it was worth paying for the skip the line portion for the museum, as there was no line when we visited in the afternoon.

Excellent location for the canal trip as it is near Vondel park and lovely shops and restaurants. Very informative guide and canal boat driver and the Rijksmuseum was excellent also.

Maybe I had my expectations too high. Everything was okay, just not as cool as I was hoping for. The museum was okay, I guess I'm spoiled after Paris museums. the boat ride was okay....better than jumping on one right out of the train station. But it is quite a hike to get there.

Canal cruise itself was scenic and informative. Customer service at the boats was subpar the lady checking us in seemed bothered that we interrupted her cappuccino preparation, and the boat operator didn't say three words the whole trip. Audio jacks provide information in 20 languages, but instruction was unclear as to how to operate could have been our operator in particular. We saw sights on the cruise that piqued our interest more than the Rijksmuseum did, so we didn't complete that part of the booking choosing to explore on our own instead.

Great but the Rijks Museum would take almost 1 full day to do. I ran short of time to do the museum. Cruise was very good though.

Review by:   Andrew G,    April 2017 Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this
I wouldn't buy this tour again as it isn't particularly good value for money and the canal cruise was a total waste of time. Admittedly you were under cover and you had an audio tape but most of the audio presentation was silence. The cruise was 75 mins and you saw a few buildings which were interesting but they could have used the time in between with historical information about Amsterdam. I learnt nothing and was bored to tears._br/_ The Rijksmuseum however was well worth a visit and I would recommend spending another 5 euros and getting the audio tour which gave you so much more info than you could have found out just wandering around. Just the highlights took us nearly 3 hours!_br/_ Overall I will never purchase a ticket through tripadvisor again until I have checked out the place in question. You would get better value buying an I amsterdam card for 57 euros for 24 hours which included museums, canal cruise and all transport.

My husband and I chose to tour the Rijksmuseum first. We toured the main hall first. You can purchase an audio tour for 5 but we opted just to wing it. The paintings were beautiful! It was so meaningful to see these historic pieces of art up close and take in the details that are missing in photos. It is a must see. Plan on lots of walking and stair climbing. We grabbed a hot chocolate and brownie at the cafe. The service was somewhat slow since the servers have lots of tables. We caught the cruise boat about a block from the Rijksmuseum. The Blue Boat tour on the Thursday we went out had 3 couples only. We noticed other cruise boats were full or close to it so we felt fortunate to have our pick of tables. The captain was a older and very experienced. Each guest is given ear buds to listen to the tour. Several languages are available. The history of Amsterdam is good if not a bit canned. The temperature outside was right at freezing but the sun was out, so it became warm sitting by the heating unit after a while. The tour lasts 1.25 hrs and was worth the cost. Even in the winter the tours leave every 1/2 hr. You can purchase a Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum and canal tour to do in one day. I don't recommend doing all three since you might have to rush thru the venues to get everything in.

Review by:   Lillian I,    January 2017 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
This is pretty much an on your own tour. You have to figure out where everything is. It was not obvious which canal cruise was the correct one, but some wandering around and asking questions got us to the correct location. The tour itself was very good. Very informative and a decent length. The museum ticket is included but you're on your own there too. However, that suited us just fine because we like to browse the museums at our own pace. I would not hesitate to recommend this package for independent minded folks.
