Amsterdam Super Saver: Bruges Day Trip plus Zaanse Schans Windmills, Marken and Volendam Half-Day Tr

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Discover Amsterdam’s scenic surroundings with this 2-day Amsterdam Super Saver, combining two best-selling tours at one discounted price. The first day, cross over into Belgium to visit the captivating city of Bruges, with its many churches, canals, lace shops and, of course, Belgian chocolates. The next day, venture through the idyllic Dutch countryside, where the windmills of Zaanse Schans and the old-fashioned charm of Volendam and Marken await.

Bruges Day Trip from Amsterdam (Day 1)Board a coach in central Amsterdam and travel 3.5 hours across the Netherlands–Belgium border to the enchanting city of Bruges. With its cobblestone streets, meandering canals and cute local shops, Bruges overflows with charm. Get an overview of the city from your guide before exploring on your own.
Soak up the atmosphere as you wander along canals and down pedestrian lanes. Walk through the peaceful Beguinage (Begijnhof), run by Benedictine nuns, and visit the intriguing Basilica of the Holy Blood (Heilig-Bloedbasiliek). Perhaps take a look at the medieval art inside the Groeningemuseum, explore the bustling Markt and Burg squares or watch lace-making demonstrations at the Kantcentrum.
Spend four hours discovering Bruges at your leisure, and don't forget to pick up some Belgian chocolates to enjoy on your drive back to Amsterdam!
Zaanse Schans Windmills, Marken and Volendam Half-Day Trip from Amsterdam (Day 2)The following day, board a coach in central Amsterdam and venture out into the beautiful Dutch countryside, whose idyllic landscape typifies the Netherlands’ fairytale charm. Along the way, learn about the sights you see through your audio guide.
Your first stop is the fishing village of Volendam, where you’ll see old fishing boats and visit a cheese factory to watch how Dutch cheese is made. Then, drive or boat to Marken, known for its characteristic wooden houses. Explore this traditional fishing town by foot, and visit a local shoemaker to watch him make clogs.
Continue on the road to Zaanse Schans, a village filled with the traditional Dutch windmills for which the Netherlands is famous. Snap photos of the slew of well-preserved windmills, see the historic shipyard and admire old buildings that evoke Dutch life in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Return to Amsterdam by coach in the late afternoon.

Terrific day trip. Good guide.. Bruges and Windmills, Marken and Volendam are must sees if visiting Amsterdam.

It would be 5 stars but for the incessant rain in Bruges. Also the guide spoke in 2 languages and although very knowledgeable it does make a difference. The group was too large to handle. The city itself is good for shopping anything especially chocolate. Tasty waffles and frites. Chocolate prices are as expected but fashion seems to be lower in price than in Amsterdam._br/_ The trip to the windmills was handled by 2 excellent guides and also the driver was excellent thus nullifying the big group problem. The visit to the cheese factory in Volendam was a great experience. Not sure the prices are lower here. The Marken trip was nice with some great photo opportunities. The prices here are certainly higher than in Amsrterdam. I can only hope that any other reader when he goes to Bruges will have a less rainy day.

This was a good whirlwind introduction tour to the Dutch countryside, but I felt like we were taken to three gift shops and had little explanation about the communities we were seeing. The highlight was seeing the inner workings of a windmill, but we had barely 45 minutes and could not explore anything else in Zanse Schans. Then it was back in the bus and off to the next gift shop in Volendam. Then a ferry ride and a walk throug Marken to a clog maker's shop. Little to no explanation of what we were seeing, history of the villages, etc. the whole experience felt rushed and commercial. Fortunately, the tour included time for lunch that many other tours don't accommodate.

Bruges was amazing, however it was super crowded and it was a 6 hour round trip bus ride to get there. I would recommend renting a car or taking a train there and spending the night so you can see Bruges at night without all the tourists. We skipped the windmill tour as we were sick of being on a bus.

The tour is full day and goes by quickly. The trip to Bruges on a very comfortable coach was long and maybe took a little longer than expected but they made it up to us by staying a bit longer. Bruges was lovely and our guide was an elderly gentleman who gave a great historical tour of this small town._br/_ The tour of Zaanse Schans, Marken and Volendam was fantastic Great places to visit and learned a lot about the Netherlands in general. We got to taste some very fresh seafood sandwiches and bought our clogs at one of the shops. Very cool and highly recommend.

I loved Bruges. It was well worth the drive on a luxury bus down and back. Only commentI wish the tour guides meet the group in a central location at a certain time to get back to the bus after the walking tour and lunch and shopping. I ended up taking a taxi 10 Euros to the parking spot for the bus to prevent getting lost and missing the bus back to AMS.

Bruges was beautiful, however the tour group was quite large and in the walking tour only the handful of people walking closest to the guide could hear due to no earphones or microphone. Aside from that it ran smoothly. The second day trip was quite good also with just enough time in each place.

Brugee is beautiful, really enjoy the town. However, I was really upset about the seating situation. It was a huge group. Isn't it first come first serve? One old couple was so rude to us, told us to get out of their reserved seats. How could you reserve seats on tour bus?please solve the problem!

Bruges Tour was very nice, but wish we had more time to explore The half-day Windmills, Marken and Volendam was also very enjoyable - but wish this tour was offered as a full day option - very rushed throughout each of the three stops

Belgium was excellent great time enough time to look around, have a leisurely lunch and do some shopping. However the trip to Zaanse Schans etc. was much to short, Could have used at least 1/2 hour more in Zaanse Schans Volendam we had enough time but the Cheese factory demonstration was like a kindergarden show not much to see how cheese was made just some props to show us got a better idea of how cheese was made in a cheese store in Amsterdam where they had the actual equipment showing the processes for cheese making. Also the tour information on the bus told us not to shop for souvenirs in Volendam because we would be able to do this in Markam which was not really fair because for those who listened there was only on shop that people could shop at. After my complaining the guide did tell me there was another one around the corner. The boat trip was ok and the stay in Markam was a quick walk through the town to the wooden shoe factory, saw how wooden shoes are presently machine made , little history and no indication what tools and how they used to be made, My rating would be much lower if it was not combined with Belgium
