Delft, The Hague and Madurodam Half-Day Trip from Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Go beyond Amsterdam with a half-day tour of two important Dutch cities: Delft and The Hague. Admire the Netherlands’ famous Delft blue-and-white pottery on a tour of the Royal Delft, followed by free time to explore Delft's historic city center. Then take a sightseeing tour of The Hague by coach, the seat of the Dutch Parliament, whose sights include the Parliament buildings, Noordeinde Palace and the Peace Palace, home to the International Court of Justice. Marvel at the miniature city of Madurodam. Your multilingual guide will provide insightful commentary throughout the afternoon.

After pickup from central Amsterdam, head an hour south to the beautiful old town of Delft. Here you’ll take a tour of the Royal Delft, where the Netherlands’ famous Delft pottery is made.
As your guide will explain, this is the only remaining factory of the 32 that were established in Delft during the 17th century. See the production process throughout the factory and tour the museum to see a huge collection of Delft earthenware antiques, giving you a glimpse of the history of this iconic blue-and-white pottery, which was inspired by Chinese porcelain. You’ll also see a reproduction of Rembrandt's The Night Watch artwork made from original Delft blue tiles.
After your Royal Delft visit, you’ll have about 30 minutes to explore the city independently. Walk through the historic town center, filled with canals and historical sights such as Oude Kerk (Old Church), Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), the Oostpoort (Eastern Gate) city wall remains and the historic Waag (Weigh House).
From Delft, continue your journey to The Hague, the former capital of the Netherlands and today the seat of the Dutch Parliament. The Hague is often referred to as the judicial capital of the world, home to many international courts, European Union institutions, multinational companies and embassies. Enjoy a drive through the city to see some of the highlights of The Hague.

Finally, visit Holland's famous miniature town, Madurodam, where you'll have an hour to wander among the exquisite miniature models of famous Holland attractions, as well as the world's largest miniature railway!
Your half-day trip ends in central Amsterdam in the evening.

Very informative and worthwhile tour overall. Delft was far more than the iconic blue-and-white Delft pottery factory. However, the in-house Delft business tour was rushed due to the high number of other company tour groups attending simultaneously. The bus drove around The Hague but no stopping. Madurodam miniature city was both fascinating and amazing - we strolled around this exhibit trying to identify the buildings and enjoy the miniature working models. We didn't arrive back at Amsterdam until around 8.30pm after a long trip.

The guide was knowledgeable, trip was wonderful. The Pottery factory is amazing although I could not image how outrageously expensive it would to buy even a little souvenir. The 3'doll boy was 220 Euros. Anyway, at Hague they only stop you near peace palace to take pictures, they show you everything else in Hague only from the window. I did not care much for the church stop which is supposed to be the 2nd tallest building in the Netherlands, because even though you paid so much for the tour, you had to pay 5 euros extra to go inside the church. We have seen beautiful churches in Rome, so we decided to pass on this one. The highlight of the tour was the last stop of maudoram where they have created miniature Netherlands, we had a blast over here. This stop made the tour definitely enjoyable.

it can be better if tourists get little more time in Madurodam. I felt we got more time in Royal Deft factory. Presentation in the factory was not great. Probably 30 mins is enough for this attraction.

The tour to Delft and the Hague were as advertised and enjoyable. Unfortunately in Delft, our English speaking group was too big and at the last minute, Delft had to find a second guide. In my opinion, this should have been anticipated by our tour guide and the information relayed to Delft. At the Madurodam miniature village, we were there within 45 minutes of their closing. We were NOT late, it was scheduled this late. Because of this, the restaurant and food venders were all closed. Nothing was open except the village and we were certainly rushed going through. We returned to Amsterdam AFTER 9:00 at night which posed a problem getting back to our hotel in the dark. We didn't wish to walk as we had during the day, and taxi cabs were non-existent.

Decent tour but probably better ones . Would have liked a longer time within the city of Delft.. felt like a run for coffee and we were back on the bus.

There were too many people on the tour and they crammed us all in a double decker bus which was not comfortable. We were a family of 3 and we had to sit separately as the people to get into the bus first took all the window seats. I feel seats should be assigned.

Delft was fabulous, what a gorgeous city - more time to explore would be great. Factory visit was terrific and explanations about delftware will help you avoid buying knockoffs. Hague is just a drive thru town. Madurodam was interesting but not really my thing plus it is late in the day and some bits not open.

Lots of travel time. Nice to go to the Delft factory. The rest is really a waste of time. It starts too late. You return to Amsterdam around 8:30 pm. Better off in a museum or cafe.

Easy to find pick up point. We had a friendly guide. _br/_ Madurodam is amazing and has interactive facilities. Detail to the buildings is fantastic._br/_ Delft is a lovely little town and we had some time to look around. Visited the Delft factory and learnt about the pottery. Beautiful workmanship and interesting. _br/_ We just drove through Hague and guide pointed out important points of interest._br/_ All in all tour was interesting and lasted long enough .

Very pleasant. Delft was far more than the Delft factory. Bus drove around the Hague but no stopping. Maurodam was fascinating. Didn't arrive back at Amsterdam until 9pm but still daylight.

In general it was a good tour. The guide was very good, very explanatory. The Delft was good, we learned a few things, we were happy with that too. Nothing special from the The Hague, we just passed through the city. We enjoyed our time in Madurodam. We had our 6-year old son with us and he had a blast. _br/_ What i didn't like though was that unless a couple from our fellow passengers had let the guide know that we were not on board, they would have left us in Madurodam..We were 3 minutes late...3 minutes!!! And she, i guess along with the driver, were ready to leave without counting heads. I would have given 4 stars to this tour but due to this incident i feel 3 stars were enough.

The driver 'bob' and the guide were great.Very knowledgeable and helpful.Had an amazing 6 hours on the tour.My only criticism would be it would have been helpful to have a bus with a toilet for such a long trip and also possibly start the tour at 2pm.

Review by:   Barbara M,    July 2017 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
My reason for not giving 5 stars is the starting time of 2.45 for a 5.5hr tour means that some things were closed by the time we reached Delft and visited the Royal Delftware factory, such as the Vermeer Centre which I would have loved to see. Also, one or 2 things in the Madurodam attractions were shut, but that is the fault of the establishment, not the tour.

First, the tour was with such a BIG group -- a pack full of tourists in a DOUBLE decker bus! The Delft tourguide had such a difficult time controlling such a big group. I could not hear what he was talking about as the room was just filled to the brim

On a 5 1/2 hour tour, there was not enough time allotted in Delft or Madurodam for full appreciation. We just drove through The Hague and important buildings were pointed out. I recommend that this be a full day tour with time included at the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague. This is the home of Vermeer's painting, Girl With A Pearl Earing.

WOW !! What a fantastic tour. Going on the bus was great as we were able to see the layout of parts of the city, also the countryside. Madurodam was amazing ! We loved strolling around trying to identify the buildings. one downside is the time we arrived back into Amsterdam in the evening . Would have preferred that we left earlier so that we could return and get back to our hotel earlier. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this tour.

For a place like Netherlands, this tour seemed slightly boring and slow. Would only recommend if you have elderly people in your group.

Review by:   Jeffspdca,    January 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
We have taken many Viator tours throughout the world. This was the first disappointment. We selected thus tour primarily because of our interest in The Hague. As it turned out the tour was mostly a sales pitch for Delft porcelain. Way to much time was devoted to the Delft plant and gift shop. Then we went to the down town area of Delft for another 90 min. 10 would have been more than enough. It was 5:00 on Sunday evening and everything was closing. Our journey to The Hague was limited to a bus ride through the city and a 90 second stop for photos at the Peace Palace just as the fun was setting. Madurodam was, however, a pleasant surprise. Sadly as we came back the the bus it wouldn't start so we waited 90 minutes for a replacement bus. The driver did all he could to apologize and take responsibility but vehicle problems happen. For those who really want to visit The Hague, we recommend taking the train from Amsterdam and spend a night or two there doing your own walking tour. That is what we'll do next time.

Go to the Delft factory . Very interesting showing the various steps from start to finish of the pottery. Would have liked to have had more time at the delft store to really look around. Skip The Hague and Madurodam - not worth the time or money!

Enjoyable and easy way to see a lot. The Royal Delft tour was very good - definitely better than most factory tours. The city of Delft was nice, though a 10-minute walk was required to get from the bus parking to the main square. What we saw in The Hague was just through the bus windows. Madurodam was very cute, but it was cold and already getting dark, so we didn't spend too much time outdoors. The tour director was OK, but pretty unengaged. He didn't seem interested in interacting with the passengers at all.

Amusing tales how the Dutch were inspired by the Chinese in creating fine ceramics and in turn how the Dutch created a thriving art form. Touring the Hague or Haag was a breeze since it's mostly important and UN offices that you can see, nevertheless, a visit to Madurodam was the best way to cap the tour...the miniature Netherlands complete with railways, an airport, villages, castles, and waterways built-to-scale was amazing...not to be missed.

Tour Timing: started on time and all locations were covered with clockwork precision!_br/_ Guide: could speak English and Spanish. Extremely funny in Spanish._br/_ Locations:_br/_ Delft was great. really informative and the place makes you buy something. Although shopping time at Delft was bit too long. Could have used to see places in The Hague._br/_ The Hague was little rushed. Could have spent some more time there. Saw most parts of the city sitting in the bus._br/_ Madurodam was the main highlight. Great place for kids and adults alike. One can really understand the working/operations for entire country of Netherlands - windmills, dykes, airport ops, sea cargo ops. Beautifully done._br/_ Overall: if you are short on time, good tour!!

This tour which is about 5 hours and 1/2 included a visit to the royal delft factory very informative and enjoyable with a demo on how they made the pottery. After that we got about 25 minutes in the Delft center for free time so we went to visit the new church historically interesting. During the tour we stopped at the peace palace in The Hague for a quick photo then headed to Madurodam park which is a must see with all those beautiful tiny buildings

This really was a good tour except that aa always there were way too many people on the tour and they included way too many things to do in the time available.. Sure wish we head time to do some walking in the Hague. Madurodam was a very pleasant surprise.

A good half day trip but Madurodam was the highlight, we could have spent all day there.

The Delft tour was okay, it's as expected. The time spent at the city center of Delft is a waste of time. I thought we would be able to spent some time in The Hague and not just cruise through the place. I thought it would be like the EU tour in Brussels wherein the tourists can enter the building. I thought the same would be in ICJ or Peace of Court.

Review by:   Gloria S,    August 2016 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
The tour was nice, the factory in Delft was okay, even if that left little to no time to explore the city, the visit was nice. Going through the Hague in the bus was a bit disappointed, all seemed a bit rushed, so I would suggest they expand the time of this tour in order do allow people to better experience the places to be visited.
