Private Tour: Holland in One Day Sightseeing Tour
Amsterdam, Netherlands
See Holland’s principal sights in the company of your very own private guide on this full-day sightseeing tour from Amsterdam. Take in the bold modern architecture of Rotterdam, visit the charming picturesque city of Delft — home of the famous Delft pottery — and tour The Hague, the seat of government and home to the Dutch royal family. While you explore these must-see spots, listen as your private guide reveals facts and anecdotes about each location.
Leave your Amsterdam hotel and set off to visit Holland’s essential sights. Because of its compact size, Holland is easy to explore in just one day and your private guide will ensure you see the best that the region has to offer.
Once you’ve settled in to your sedan or private minivan — depending on the size of your party — set off to Rotterdam, Holland’s second largest city. Enjoy a tour of the city and admire the imposing skyline, which is famed for its experimental, avant-garde architecture. If you want a better look at the impressive structures, head to the top of the 606-foot (185-meter) Euromast Tower (own expense), which offers panoramic views of the city and port.
From there, journey on to the picturesque city of Delft, noted for its charming canals and historic gabled houses. Delft is also recognized for its artistic heritage; it was the home of Dutch master Johannes Vermeer and the birthplace of the world-famous Delft pottery. This exquisite blue-and-white earthenware was originally produced as an imitation of expensive Chinese porcelain in the 17th century and quickly became popular in its own right. Tour the Royal Deft factory (own expense) to hear more and to see how the beautiful pottery is produced, before refueling with some lunch (own expense).
Next, continue on to The Hague, the political heart of the Netherlands. As you view historical landmarks such as the Binnenhof (Inner Court) complex where Parliament is located, listen to your guide share details about their history. Then wander around Madurodam (own expense), a miniature town that features shrunken models of Holland’s most famous attractions.
Your whirlwind day tour will come to a close in the evening, when you will be dropped off back at your hotel in central Amsterdam.
We covered a lot of territory in one day and it was worth having a private tour for that reason especially as the weather was not great. But the guide would just drop us off at places and then say meet me back here when you are finished without giving us a time or any information. Nice to be flexible but I prefer to know the days itinerary in advance and have a schedule. He only told us where we were heading one at a time and only if I asked. We travelled throughout Europe for 7 weeks and did a lot of excursions always with a guide who gave us loads of background information and accompanied us most places. His English was okay but not fantastic.
