Small-Group Amsterdam Bike Tour

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Explore Amsterdam the ‘Dutch way’ – by bike! Following an expert local guide, enjoy a leisurely 2- or 3-hour bike ride around Amsterdam’s typically flat and open city streets – perfect for cycling! Passing alongside the city’s charming canals, see the world-famous Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank House and last, but certainly not least, Amsterdam’s infamous Red Light District.

This small-group tour is limited to 12 people, ensuring you'll enjoy personalized attention from your guide.

Meet your expert guide near Amsterdam’s central station, and after putting on your helmet, hop on your bike and away you go!

The 2-hour bike tour begins with a ride through the labyrinth of narrow streets and canals that comprise the bohemian Jordaan Quarter. Originally a poor neighborhood, it’s now home to an eclectic mix of artists, students and young entrepreneurs and boasts trendy boutiques, traditional cafes and modern restaurants. The area is also home to the legendary Anne Frank House Museum, which you’ll cycle past, learning from your guide about the significance of the building -- the hiding place of Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank.

Continuing your journey further south through the city, pass the Rijksmuseum, home to masterpieces from Baroque painters like Rembrandt and Vermeer. Enjoy a short break in Vondel Park, the city’s largest green oasis, before riding across the Magere Brug, often touted as the most beautiful bridge in a city that has more than a thousand of them.

As a last highlight of your tour, your expert guide will take you into the heart of Amsterdam’s Red Light District, a must-see for any visitor to Amsterdam. This controversial neighborhood is actually Amsterdam’s oldest, and has history dating back to the 14th century. Discover its fascinating – and racy – characteristics as you ride through with your guide.

End the tour back at the start point, and having traveled the ‘Dutch way’ and discovered the gems of Amsterdam, you can proudly count yourself as an Amsterdam insider!

Upgrade to 3-hour tour:
If you choose the 3-hour tour, you'll ride past the same sights and see the same attractions mentioned above, plus you'll pass by the house of famous Dutch painter Rembrandt. You'll also have a slightly longer break at Vondel Park.

My husband and I loved this tour and took it as soon as we arrived in Amsterdam and dropped off our bags. The young man who was our tour guide was both entertaining and knowledgeable. It's a great way to get oriented and be part of the bike culture. Not difficult at all.

Definitely a crazy experience, but it's kind of a must-try when you're in Amsterdam! Biking through gardens and the famous Amsterdam sign was cool. It was a little hard for me to keep up with the group while weaving in and out between other bikers, pedestrians, small trucks and cars, along narrow streets.

This tour is a must in Amsterdam - we booked it on the first day we arrived in the city. Guide gave us a summary of all the highlights present in Amsterdam including some history on the attractions!

We liked this tour. Our favorite part was biking through Volderpark and stopping for a warm beverage. The only thing I would change was some of the content about Amsterdam that our guide provided. I would have liked more about Amsterdam today and in the last several decades and less on the founding of Amsterdam and the Golden Age.

FUN!! Best way to get familiar with Amsterdam and the canal system. So easy to get around. On a negative note, the meeting place is an out of the way, hard to find place. I had to call the office and ask several people along the way before I finally found it._br/_ Our guide was terrific but we took a long time to get started and organized. Once we did get going she started the two hours so we didn't miss any time. She was informed and throughout the tour she showed us where we were and where we were going on a map. She was also quite good at answering questions. I would do the three hour one next time. Time went by fast and I will now include a bike tour in every city from now on. _br/_ Be prepared for the weather in the Netherlands -- it is not unusual for a short rain every now and then. Dress appropriately and you will be fine. Our tour did not stop for a little rain.

Great tour of city. Meeting place was easy to find and tour guide was informative and pleasant. Amsterdam and biking is fun, but there are soooo many bikes that biking is a challenge. Glad we booked tour, as we saw a lot of the sights, in a short amount of time.

Great way to see the city upon arrival. Bikes are everywhere in this city and it was an awesome experience to say we took part as the locals do. Definitely not for the faint of heart- quite a long tour but the streets are flat so most can handle and lots of other bicyclist on the road so you definitely have to be alert.

We felt that our guide was not that knowledgeable about the area that he took us on and, in fact, sometimes asked us if we had any 'comments or thoughts' on different areas! He didn't have a lot of personality either. We did one of these bike tours in Paris and the tour guide was amazing!

Review by:   Isabel H,    September 2017 Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this
The pitfall of booking this tour from home before you leave is the weather. I would recommend waiting until you get to a city, THEN book a bike tour if the weather is good. We were so excited about taking this Amsterdam bike tour, which we felt would be our highlight of the tremendous bicycle culture of the city where 63 percent of its residents use bicycles. The do and they were fascinating to watch. Entire families move around the city via bikes, towing trailers front and back. Really fun. But, alas, on the day of our trip cold, rain poured down heavily-- even keeping the hearty Amsterdam citizens indoors. We called the agency the day before our trip when the weather looked iffy and were told they would not cancel the trip, regardless the weather in order to experience Amsterdam. Well, okay we thought, we'll go. But the weather was so terrible, they could not possibly have conducted the tour and we could not even get out our door to see. So we chalked it up to a financial loss that next time we will not pre-arrange. My advice is to wait until you get to Amsterdam, check the weather, then book it.

Cycling in Amsterdam is a must ! In this 3-hour tour, we were able to see so much of the city. It's really easy to ride as it is flat and the bikes are easy to ride. Maria our guide was great, explaining about the history and culture. She was also willing to adapt the itinerary according to our preferences. Such a nice experience, we could not see the 3 hours as it went really quick. The best way to explore the whole city and feel like a local :)

Great tour! The guide was knowledgeable, friendly, funny. So great to see Amsterdam as the locals see it - on bikes! I wish we had headsets where the guide could have given insight the whole way through the tour, but for the cost this is definitely worth it!

My wife and I really enjoyed this bicycle tour of Amsterdam. It is the best way to get a real view of the area. It is not difficult as Amsterdam is very flat.

Good way to start your stay in Amsterdam. The city is pretty flat and easy to bike. There's amazing biking infrastructure because Amsterdam. The most challenging part was areas with a lot of pedestrians and in those times we we just walked our bikes. I personally had not biked for about 7 years before this tour and found it enjoyable. The groups will get separated at red lights but the guide will wait for everyone to catch up. The guide pointed out some architectural details in the city, talked about different districts in Amsterdam, and generally gave interesting facts. Good value for the price.

I really loved this experience of being able to bike around Amsterdam like the locals. Some of the intersections were really sketchy to cross with the whole group but our guide was really great at making sure we were all together and able to cross all the streets safely. The guide also knew a lot about the history of Amsterdam and I learned a lot, especially regarding the architecture. This is definitely the best way to see the city by land.

Very nice tour of Ámsterdam! Ryan de Wit, our guide was quite elocuent and with a good attitude to tell many stories. Got to see all of Amsterdams popular sights and got a very idea of the city. It is an excellent option if you like to see around first, get comfortable in the city and then go to particular spots!

This was a great way to see the city and I would recommend it as one of the first activities if you are staying for at least a few days in Amsterdam. I found it to be a great way to become familiar with the city and where everything is located. The information and history given was also great. We went on a morning that was a bit rainy. Although not ideal, it did reduce other bike traffic which made it easier for us to travel through town. The only negative is that my view on things being okay going through the red-light district with a 12-year-old boy was different from our guide's view. She did give us the option of not going through it, but I was under the impression from her that it would be find and not a big deal. It wasn't a big deal if you lived there, but for an American, I wish I would have requested NOT to go through the red-light district. It wasn't horrible, but various window displays, live and still, were more than I would like to explain to my son. Other than that, we enjoyed the tour!

This was so fun! And it was a must do for me since it was my first time in Amsterdam and I was not disappointed. Our group had 7 and it was ideal. Everyone one the staff was extremely nice and full of answers. Our guide was very fun and engaging. You could tell she has a lot of pride for her city and she loves sharing it with you. She was also more than happy to help you out if there was anything else you want to see or try. Don't be scared to try the bike ride!

This was great! We went on the 10:30 tour and it was fun exploring the city by bike. Took tour the second day after orienting ourselves with the atmosphere and energy of the city._br/_ Keep to the right at all times and use hand signals_br/_ Two brakes which you can use. hand and foot brake_br/_ One thing to note how wonderful people are to bike riders._br/_ My girlfriend fell at a road intersection. People surrounded her to protect her from traffic until she was set on her bike again.

it was drizzling that day on and off during the journey, and then also raining hail in the middle of the tour for a short wile. _br/_ Rain coat is not automatically provided. we thought the guide would bring raincoat and distribute to the team when it rains, but none, he didn't do anything not distributing rain coat, and never mention a single thing about rain coat and we all were just standing under the drizzle luckily only for a short while. there were 2 members in our group that took rain coat from the agency shop earlier before it rains, so that 2 person were smart as they were the only 2 with raincoats._br/_ so just grab the raincoat and be prepared for yourself as the tour guide won't care. he brought us around the city, but i couldn't remember much of the places as my focus was primarily in following the group and avoiding the cars and others bicycles. there were many bicycles and when they see you riding the yellow bike they know you are tourists and they became inpatient towards you. _br/_ the tourguide told us to ignore and do not say any words back to the local to avoid conflict. he said if we were cycling in the regular bike, they wont know we are tourists and they won't have any issue with us.

Doing a bike tour in Amsterdam is a must. Very good for those people who don't have much experience riding a bike. It is all flat, with no hills. The only problem I had was the peddle brake on the bike? I would much prefer a bike with a front and back hand brake.

The weather did not cooperate, which is obviously outside of their control. However, other issues also led to this being mediocre. The tour was only 2 hours long - which meant we were rushed to get through it. The leader's bike got a flat and as a result, since there was only one and no back up, we got derailed halfway through. Additionally, the roads we took were crazy with traffic and I felt really uncomfrotable with my kids trying to keep up wth the leader while cars were on their tails. I've done other bike tours in Europe, this was by far my least favorite.
