Zaanse Schans and Windmills Half-Day Trip from Amsterdam
Amsterdam, Netherlands
In this half-day tour, learn more about the history of the Netherlands by exploring the village of Zaanse Schans. With your professional guide, enjoy the authentic farmsteads, paths, wooden houses, warehouses and windmills. A highlight is the wooden shoe making demonstration or an optional visit to a working windmill. The tour will last approximately 5 hours and you will also have some free time to discover on your own the taste of some typical Dutch delights.
Meet your guide in a central place in Amsterdam in the morning, and board your air-conditioned coach or mini-van. It's then time to make your way to the UNESCO Zaanse Schans. Your local guide will talk about the history of traditional region, which in the mid-19th century due to the industrial revolution, experienced a major financial boost. As soon as you will get there, you will see how wooden shoes are locally made and then assist to a "basic" Dutch cheese tradition’s demonstration. After the demonstrations, you will have a walk to the area of the windmills and your guide will talk about the polder system and Dutch water management.
Your guide will give you around 2-hour of free time, where you can visit one of the working windmills or admire some other local traditional attraction. At the end of the tour, your guide will drive you back to Amsterdam. Enjoy a great day of history and "typical Dutch".
