Zaanse Schans Half-Day Tour Including Boat Ride to Zaandam from Amsterdam
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Visit Zaanse Schans from Amsterdam and explore the Dutch countryside in a half-day tour. Visit a wooden shoe maker, a cheese farm as well as a working wind mill and also enjoy a boat ride on the De Zaan river to see the wind mills from the water!
Meet your guide at the city center of Amsterdam from where your guide will take you directly to Zaanse Schans with its typical green houses and industrial wind mills.
Visit a clog maker and see how these traditional Dutch wooden shoes are being made. Continue your journey to visit a cheese farm, traditional crafts and a working wind mill. Enjoy this typical Dutch countryside experience while listening to stories from your local guide about the sights and the history of the area.
Next, you will board a boat to see the picturesque countryside and the wind mills from the water. Your boat cruise will take you to Zaandam with its former warehouses standing along the De Zaan river. See where big companies like Albert Heijn started and Russian czar Peter the Great learned how to build ships. You will have time on your own hereĀ for lunch, shopping and/or to visit the Czar Peter House or some other highlights.
After your visit of Zaandam, you can go back to Amsterdam Central Station by train (train tickets included) at what ever time you prefer. You will also receive a tourist map to explore the city center of Zaandam.
Fantastic trip if you want to see some of the countryside of the Netherlands although only 20 mins from Amsterdam and short on time. You're on the move but still get to see a lot. The boat ride back to Zaandam is fantastic. Highly recommended.

Very interesting, since the weather was bad we didn't take the boat ride.

This was by far the highlight of our trip. Ingrid has more personality than 10 guides, and we learned so much. The boat trip and guide were also amazing. We will go back next year, just for the cheese and cheese dip alone. Amazing day.

Tour was small, only 8 people. Tour Guide actually lives in Zaanse Schans and this is only job, owns this small tour company. Knew everything about this area and mock village as a working history of years past.

Really enjoyed our tour guide. The main attraction was the cheese factory and the windmills where we got to see the mills where Rembrandt used his colors from. We ended with a boat ride to Zaandam city which was pretty and scenic. Highly recommend this half day tour.

NOT an accurate description; there is NO boat ride from Ams to Zaandam. This was very disappointing because we paid more thinking we'd be on the water, not in a van driving to the location. Tour of town was nice, the guide was knowledgeable and group was small. Just wish we didn't over pay for event

Very pleasant trip -- well organized, small group, very relaxed. Good way to get a small out-of-Amsterdam experience during an Amsterdam-based vacation.

Our guide was great. Everything went very smoothly enjoyed the tour. We thought the boat ride was a bit too long for what we saw.

I booked this trip last minute and it turned out to be a private tour. Bart was great, you could tell how proud he was of his heritage. I felt like we were getting an insiders tour. We had a greeat time...I just wish the weather was better!

Amazing scenery. Great local guide, we went on the tour even if I was alone (the other people didn and #39;t show up). He also let me drive the boat and dropped me at my airport, really really appreciated!

The tour operator, Bart, was very knowledgeable. He lives near Zaanse Schans. There were a total of 4 people on the tour, which was a very nice change from the large tour buses. Bart was very personable and attentive to our group. For those who do not want to line up for a large bus tour, this is perfect! I recommend this tour enthusiastically.

Bart is an excellent guide. Our tour was small - 3 people, so that even made it better. Zaanse Schans is a very busy place so the smaller tours that Zaan Tours provides work perfectly.
