On this tour to Turnagain Arm from Anchorage, you’ll travel along the incredibly scenic Seward Highway, a designated National Scenic Byway and one of only 41 All-American Roads in the US. This means you’ll be treated to some of the country’s most spectacular landscapes as you travel to the Cook Inlet and Turnagain Arm, stopping at Mt Alyeska along the way for lunch and a tram ride up the mountain. You’ll also take a guided tour of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to see bears, moose, elk and more.
You’ll be picked up from your downtown Anchorage hotel in the afternoon for a scenic drive to Turnagain Arm. This popular landmark is an extension of the Cook Inlet, which extends toward Anchorage and then branches into two arms that nearly surround Anchorage.
Travel along the beautiful Seward Highway, a National Scenic Byway and one of only 41 roads in the US designated as an All-American Road. You’ll be astounded by the Alaskan scenery as you pass mountain slopes, marshes, rocky outcrops and dramatic coastlines on your way to Mt Alyeska.
Hop on an aerial tram for a ride up to the top of the mountain, where you'll enjoy views of alpine glaciers and learn about the surrounding area from your guide. You can also visit the Roundhouse Museum, Alaska's only mountaintop museum, featuring exhibits about pioneer skiers as well as awesome 360-degree views.
Afterward, head to The Bake Shop at the foot of the mountain to enjoy lunch including soup, sourdough bread and desserts. You’ll then be taken to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center for a guided tour. This privately owned non-profit organization rescues orphaned and injured animals. On your tour, get up-close views of bears, moose, elk, caribou and other Alaskan animals.
Continue your drive along the Cook Inlet and around famous Turnagain Arm, one of the most scenic spots in Alaska. Watch for the incoming tide – the second-largest tide in North America – and keep an eye out for the wildlife such as sheep, beluga whales and eagles.
After some time here, relax on the journey along the Seward Highway back to Anchorage.
Upgrade: Glacier Cruise
Upgrade to include a 1-hour cruise to Portage Glacier, one of Alaska’s most-visited attractions! Travel along Portage Lake and hear interesting facts and stories about the surrounding area and wildlife from your onboard guide. Your captain will take you close to the glacier face, giving you great photo opportunities.
This is pretty much a full day tour in a small, comfortable custom van/bus. There was plenty of space for back packs, camera bags, etc. The pick-up and drop-off was convenient as advertised. We opted for the very up close and informative glacier cruise. Definitely worth the time and extra expense. Our driver/guide was a very knowledgeable local lady who definitely knew the area, making the tour that much more inclusive and interesting. The highlight of this tour, for us, was the stop at a wild game preserve. We got an up close look at moose, elk, black and brown bears, wolves and porcupine in their natural environment. The entire tour was fun, informative and relaxing.

What a great way to see some areas around Anchorage for us who only had one day for it! We saw beluga whales, ascended a mountain in a cable car, took a cruise to see a glacier calve, visited an animal sanctuary for local wildlife, and much more. We traveled as a small group, and our guide was fantastic. The somewhat steep price was well worth it!

The tour had two things going against it. First was weather-rainy and foggy. I think there should be a back up plan if Mt. Alyeska is fogged in. The other was an over zealous tour guide who was very informative but too over the top for us.

This is a great tour! Our tour guide, Sarah, was awesome! She knew a lot about Alaska and environmental sciences. The Seward Highway is a must-see. Mt. Alyeska was disappointing due to weather no fault of the tour. The bake shop is as good as others say it is. The glacier cruise is a nice way to check seeing a glacier up close, off your Alaska check list!

The scenery on the way to and from our stops was spectacular and we learned SO much for our tour guide, Chloe, who had a wealth of knowledge. Lunch was as delicious as promised. No one could do seconds even though it was family style service. The tram ride up Mt. Alyeska was breathtaking and impressive. We did not take the optional glacier cruise as it was already full. Well worth it!! Very comfortable travel coach, too.

Call and confirm pickup, they told me the night before they didn and #39;t have transportation, so I had to pay for a taxi. When we got on the bus, the driver picked up and dropped off several passengers from there hotel instead._br/_ The location for lunch serves a lot of food so, come hungry!!

One consistent with Viator is their tour guides and Justin did Viator proud. Personable, knowledgable and just fun was Justin. The vehicle used was comfortable, there was plenty of water and snacks and lunch was awesome. This is a awesome tour that captures a glimpse of Alaska.

Everything about the tour was top notch from the tour guide Sarah to the sights of the cruise. If I had one criticism even though it was good having soup for lunch as a main dish could be exchanged. For an 8 hour day expectations would be a little more. I also did the glacier cruise which is a must

The Seward Highway passes through some of Alaska's most spectacular scenery, with glacier topped mountains rising right out of the sea. Then for a different perspective we rode the tram to the top of Alyeska and got the view of it all from above. To top it off we wandered through the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, walking within a few feet of musk ox, moose, and even a grizzly bear. All in all an incredible day.
