Your private guide will collect you from your hotel in Aswan at 8am for the three-hour drive south: you'll travel in your own comfortable air-conditioned vehicle for this private tour of Abu Simbel.

Built during the reign of the great Pharaoh Ramses II, in the 13th century BC, these two vast rock-cut temples are dedicated to Ramses II and his wife, Nefertari. They are considered architectural masterpieces of Egypt's New Kingdom and so, when Aswan's High Dam was first built, flooding their original location, the Egyptian government and UNESCO worked together to save both temples from the flood.

Your guide will escort you to the Great Temple, or Sun Temple, built in honor of Ramses II and dedicated to him and four other gods, as well as the smaller temple dedicated to his wife Nefertari, and also known as the Temple of Hathor. A qualified Egyptologist, he will explain the fine details of the rock-cut carvings and statuary, as well as how the temples were saved from the flood. After around three hours at the temples, you'll return to Aswan at 5pm.

Abu Simbel is absolutely amazing. The ride was approximately a 3.5 hour drive from my hotel on Elephantine Island and my guide, Rami and my operator, Fath were waiting for me promptly at 4:30 AM. During the drive, Rami gave me a mini-tour providing details of different buildings and areas we had to pass through en route to Abu. Once there, Rami also shared his extensive knowledge of his favorite site. Both Rami and Fath were professional, extremely personable, kind gentlemen. I highly recommend this tour.

Our guide and driver picked us up at the hotel at 4am you may get a later time in the cooler months, but getting to the temple early in the summer will keep you from the afternoon heat. it is about a 3hour drive from Aswan, so be prepared to see the sun coming up over the desert spectacular. Islam our guide was great and explained the temple in great detail. The site is a marvel and you will not be disappointed. After visiting the temples we were escorted back to the hotel. As a side note and this applies to anything you do: take plenty of money for tipping, does not have to be a lot, but tips definitely help the people who work in tourism.

I heard and read a lot of bad 'SCAM' experience in Egypt and during recent Europe travel viator was really satisfactory choice. Waeel my tour guide was very knowledgeable and he even gave me access to his hotspot while traveling to and fro Abu Simbel. This was a private tour and Abu Simbel did not disappoint! Amazing place with a few people to compete with!
