Day1. EPIDAURUS & MYCENAE: Setting off from Athens towards the Peloponnese we stop briefly at the Corinth Canal before heading through the olive groves & alongside the sea views to our first main stop to explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Sanctuary of Asklepios and the Theater of Epidaurus, one of the most visited ancient sites in Greece. After lunch beside the sea we continue to the site of Mycenae where you can enter through its gigantic cyclopedian walls to the palace of Agamemnon, view the famous Beehive tombs & its first class museum before transfer to Olympia.
Day2. ANCIENT OLYMPIA: The day starts exploring magical Olympia. Famous for its Olympic Games of antiquity you will see the places where the original athletes trained, learned and go through the tunnel to emerge in the stadium in which they competed. The site is still home to the Temple of Zeus and Hera where the Olympic Flame is lit, workshop of Phidias, and extensive Museum containing significant masterpieces from the site. In the afternoon we head along the Peloponnese coastline and over the stunning Rio-Antirio suspension bridge to Delphi and the slopes of mt Parnassus.
Day3. DELPHI & ARACHOVA: A day dedicated to exploring Delphi. Rich in Mythology & history and center of the ancient Greek world as designated by Zeus, Delphi was also famed through its Oracle, Pythian games, & home to the god and Temple of Apollo. You will also have plenty of time to visit the impressive museum to see its many artifacts from as far back as the 15th century BC with highlights including the Naxian Sphinx & bronze charioteer before the journey to Meteora underneath shadows of the rock forest.
Day4. METEORA: Awake to the towering pinnacles of Meteora on top of which are suspended the six remaining monasteries dating from the 12th century and forming a remarkable and awe-inspiring combination of nature and spiritual significance. We'll visit at least two of the most outstanding monasteries learning about their long history and the hermits and monks that lived there before our return along the east coast with a stop at the dramatic landscape of Thermpohylae with its monument to Leonides & visitors center before lunch just a few feet from the Aegean sea & fina return to your Hotel or cruise ship.
