Acropolis of Athens and New Acropolis Museum Tour

Athens, Greece

Delve into the fascinating world of Ancient Greece on a 3-hour walking tour of the Acropolis of Athens and the New Acropolis Museum. With an expert guide, discover the UNESCO-listed archaeological site and visit world-famous monuments including the Parthenon, Propylaea gateway and the Temple of Athena Nike. Absorb jaw-dropping views of Athens from the acropolis’ summit, and learn about the evocative ruins. Then, enjoy a guided tour of the New Acropolis Museum, where glass floors reveal excavation sites. Entrance fees not included.

Meet your guide at the prearranged location, then enjoy a leisurely stroll to the foothills of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Acropolis of Athens, an ancient citadel and one of the world’s most revealing archaeological sites.

Head for the south slope of the acropolis to avoid the main crowds, then pay your entrance fee and make your way inside to see the bounty of ancient treasures that await. Along the way, visit the Theatre of Dionysus, a 5th-century amphitheater that is often cited as the birthplace of the performing arts. Hear about its history from your guide and imagine it filled with Ancient Greek theatergoers. You’ll also stop at Dionysus Sanctuary, a site dedicated to the Greek god of wine and fertility who was also the patron god of the Greek stage.

Inside the acropolis, get up close to important sights such as Propylaea gateway, Erechtheion, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Parthenon, a former temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. Pause for photos by these fascinating ruins and learn all about their history and historical importance from your guide.

When you reach the summit of the sacred hill, be awed by the sweeping panoramas of Athens below. Learn about the excavation details and gain further insight into the citadel’s ruins. You’ll also hear about surrounding monuments such as Mars Hill, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the ancient agora, once the heart of ancient Athens.

Continue on to the New Acropolis Museum, which has been ranked one of the top five museums in the world. Follow your guide on a tour of its highlights, which include impressive collections of statues and relics, as well as the Gallery of the Slopes of the Acropolis, where glass floors reveal archaeological excavation sites.

After approximately 1.5 hours, your tour concludes inside the museum, leaving you free to explore its exhibits further, should you wish.

This was a fantastic tour enjoyed by my whole family. Our tour guide Vasiliki was easily understood and very knowledgeable. What an amazing place the Acropolis is, and the New Acropolis Museum is really quite special as well.

Great tour -- the guide was wonderful!!! It was very hot and they provided water and stopped in the shade as necessary. Learned a lot and the new museum was lovely!!!

Great stories and details well told. Unbelievably beautiful and haunting statuary. Climb to the top carefully staged to accommodate older people and the heat, for everyone.

The meeting place was easy to find. We had Aristotle as our guide. He is very knowledgeable since he is an archaeologist. At times it was a little difficult to hear since it was very crowded but overall a good experience!

The guide was a fountain of information. He had pictures that showed us what the Parthenon looked like when it was just built. The time flew by, and we even went over the 3.5 hours. Friends who didn't take the tour couldn't understand how we could be at the Acropolis for so long, but I loved every minute of the tour. And I'm sure I got so much more out of the trip than people who try to go it alone.

Our guide Ermis was extremely knowledgeable and really seemed to enjoy teaching Greek history. It was a cultural holiday so the entrance was free which made it very crowded. Other than that, worthhwile tour.

Our tour guide was really great and knowledgeable. The tour got a little long at the end, with about 1.5 hours in the museum. It was very nice to skip the line and learn about all of the history as you walk, much more informative than just going independently.

Aristotle was our tour guide and really made the acropolis and the museum come to life. His knowledge made the tour so much more interesting. Highly recommend this to anyone spending time in Athens.

Amazing experience! Vasiliki was an excellent tour guide... even for me, who is Greek -- I learned SO much even though I've been to the Acropolis several times. Would highly recommend this!

It was a great balance of museum and landmark, especially being able to see all the pieces that used to be on the site put up in a way to show where they would have been on the Parthenon/Acropolis.

our group had been to the Acropolis before on our own, but all agreed we needed a guide and this was an exceptional tour thanks to Aristotle. he was so informative, had a healthy sense of humor, knew the perfect shady spots and was spot on time wise. he was terrific and we all loved the tour.

We took the Acropolis of Athens and New Acropolis Museum Tour. Our tour guide, Hermes is what made it memorable. He was FANTASTIC. Extremely informative, and engaging. No question he couldn't answer and really made the tour so much more of a valuable experience.

The tour was informative and covered the main points of the acropolis and museum. Added valuable perspective. Not small group, but the guide was enthusiastic and proud of her city. Would recommend, but somewhat pricey, esp since acropolis and museum tickets are extra.

Amazing tour! Our guide Nick (tall Nick) was knowledgeable and provided lots of information, both on the Acropolis site and in the museum. Highly recommend if you want some details. For me, this was a great supplement to reading about the site. Museum is one of the best!

Our tour guide, Stavros S. was outstanding. He clearly had great expertise in the history and origins of what we saw during the half day tour. He spoke English fluently, readily answered all the groups' questions and gave us time for photos along the way. I would highly recommend taking this tour especially if you have limited time in Athens.

The tour was very interesting mainly due to our guide Mr Kostas Kastellakis. He was very knowledgeable both in terms of the Greek history and archeology and made the tour very interesting inspite of an extremely hot day in Athens.

Small group of a dozen people with us. The guide made an effort to welcome and introduce all members. The walk up to the Akropolis was well timed and structured with frequent stops to let us enjoy the sights, give us explanations and to stop us from breaking a sweat. I saw more of the Akropolis than on my two previous visits. The museum is beautiful architecture and its collection was well shown with hand-picked items to look at in detail by our guide.

Formidable experiencia. Altamente recomendado

This was a great tour. Our guide was an archeologist and full of information. My kids 8 and 11 loved it and were very engaged. Important to note there is a great deal of walking on uneven surfaces on this tour.

Guided tours are essential in this type of museum. The guide reveals so much that you cannot see on your own. Our guide was personable and an expert with a degree in archeology. She personalized our visit by taking the time to get to know us. Inexpensive too.

I mistakenly booked the tour for the day of our arrival so we missed the tour. Not realizing we showed up the following day. The tour guide was so helpful but his tour was full. The guide office spoke with us and encouraged us to call Viator. We did and were able to re-schedule for the following day._br/_ The tour was enjoyable, although you have to be somewhat physically fit to complete.

Really good tour with our guide Costas who was informative helpful and set a good pace with the heat up to the Acropolis and later and the thankfully air conditioned new Acropolis museum .Brought it to life ...My only criticism is the price as you have to pay into the museum on top of the tour which is 25 euros each apart from under 18 s who pay 3 euros

Both the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum Tours were very informative and gave me a good historical overview. However, I am giving only 3 stars due to the tour guide's rude attitude toward me when my daughter and I arrived 3 minutes late after a break between the 2 tours. I was chastised publicly in front of the group for not following directions exactly as given earlier when our group dispersed. I felt quite embarrassed and came very close to leaving the tour but decided to remain as the tour was prepaid. About an hour later, at the end of the tour, the guide did apologize to the group as a whole for any rudeness he may have demonstrated. If not for the apology I would have given 1 star.

Stravos is very passionate and detailed, he clearly enjoys sharing his knowledge and love of the Acropolis with the tour group. For those of us who like history and details, it was a great tour. I give this tour 5 stars because I am the one giving the review. My wife, who doesn't like as much detail, would probably have given only 4 stars because she said it was too much. If you like all the historical info like me, definitely try to get Stravos as your guide. Stravos...if you read this review, I would suggest that you ask the group before beginning the tour as to how much detail they would desire so you could adjust as needed.
