Acropolis of Athens Tour

Athens, Greece

Behold the wonders of Ancient Greece on a 1.5-hour walking tour of the UNESCO-listed Acropolis of Athens. With an expert guide, discover one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites. Visit the Theatre of Dionysus and see Dionysus Sanctuary. Then, stroll to the acropolis' summit, stopping at monuments such as Propylaea gateway, the Temple of Athena Nike and the acropolis' crowning glory: the Parthenon. Absorb sweeping panoramas of the city below, and learn about the citadel’s ruins as well as excavation efforts from your guide. Entrance fees not included.

Join up with your expert guide at the prearranged meeting point, then set off at a leisurely pace along the tree-lined streets to the foothills of the UNESCO-listed Acropolis of Athens — the ancient citadel and archaeological site that dominates the city.

Make for the south slope of the acropolis to avoid the main crowds, then pay your entrance fee and head inside to see some of the world’s finest archaeological treasures. On the way, visit the Theatre of Dionysus, a 5th-century amphitheater that is often cited as the birthplace of the performing arts. Imagine the grand space filled with Ancient Greek theatergoers as you perch on one of the stone seats and hear about its long history from your guide. Then, stop at Dionysus Sanctuary, a site dedicated to the Greek god of wine and fertility who was also the patron god of the Greek stage.

Inside the acropolis, ascend the sacred hill, stopping to see and learn about important sights such as the world-famous Parthenon, Propylaea gateway, Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike, a monument built to represent Athens’ ambition as the most powerful Greek city.

At the top of the acropolis, take in sweeping views of the city below and listen as your guide shares knowledgeable insight of the citadel’s ruins including excavation details. Then, hear more about surrounding monuments such as Mars Hill, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Philopapos Hill and the ancient agora — a meeting place that once served as the heart of ancient Athens.

Your tour concludes at the acropolis' summit, leaving you free to continue exploring the site at your own leisure.

This was a standard tour. Nothing special. Our tour guide was pretty dry. She provided a lot of information, but not the most engaging delivery.

The tour was wonderful and Dorina or Dorianna from Athens walking tours I hope I got that right was amazing. We were glad we took the 6pm tour as it was cooling down by that time. Stairs were a bit tough to be expected by I'm 70 and I made it. Took shoes off coming down, made it a lot easier. We had plenty of time for photos after tour. Would recommend highly

Perfect tour for the time we had in Athens. Easy meet spot and Nikos was a great guide providing history each step of the way. The walk up to the Acropolis seems a bit more daunting than it really is. Quite spectacular once you're actually there and taking in such historical surroundings. Highly recommend.

Excellent tour guide with interesting facts and information about the history of the Acropolis. He was humorous and well informed. Our children -9 and 11 -remained engaged the entire time.

This tour was grate, our guide as well, good informed and communicative. We paid 20 euros for our Acropolis thicket, so we realized that is perhaps better to take another tour that has tickets included and lasts 3 hours.

An interesting tour. More breaks were needed. Bring snacks, we were starving by the time we were taken to lunch.

It was extremely hot in Athens, and we had seriously limited time!! We had a very knowledgeable guide, and stopped in shady spots to hear what she had to say. This could have been avoided if only headphones were used! It saves a lot of time. We had to be at the airport around midday, which meant we just about reached the Parthenon before having to start heading back and to the Airport. This holiday has taught me one thing for sure - not to book ANY excursion where headphones are not used! Next time will ask about that first before booking.

This tour was good. Our tour guide, while very long-winded, was knowledgable and very friendly. What I would change about this tour is the time of day. It was so extremely hot that I really didn't even care what the tour guide was saying by the time we got to the top. I just wanted it to be over and to be in some air conditioned space! I searched for an earlier or later tour time to avoid being out at the hottest part of the day, but could not find a better time. This tour would be better offered right at opening or at the end of the day. Otherwise, it was very cool to see some of ancient Greece.

I recommend the early morning or evening tour in the Summer. It was really hot mid-day, but we still had a wonderful guide. He had a masters in history and really was informative. ADVICE wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for a hike. It's about 1,500 feet up to the top of the hill and difficult for small children and older people. Once you're at the top it's incredible. Probably the best site I've seen and 360 degree views of Athens.

Wonderful guided tour of the Acropolis, this is not to be missed. Unless you are an historian specializing in Ancient Greece, do not visit without a guide. The insight to the major sites, explanations of use and time periods, is invaluable. And it was a lot of fun! Most of the guides have a sense of humor to add to their extensive knowledge and it makes for a great one and a half hours.

Very knowledgeable guide, who brought all the historical facts across in a funny but informative way. He also had entry tickets for the acropolis with him so we would not need to queue up - absolutely recommendable!

A very informative and interesting tour. The guide was very nice and seemed to enjoy his field which makes a world of difference. I joined part way through the tour and didn't finish as they were going onwards to the museum but very well organised! _br/_ Would certainly recommend!

Our guide Artemis was amazing, what a fantastic tour! I don and #39;t know why you would do this without a guide - skipping the line is a huge relief and the detail provided by Artemis really made it come alive. A very memorable experience.

Opted for this portion of the half day walking tour. We joined the group already in progress outside a yogurt shop. The coordinator offered to let us continue on with the museum tour by paying the guide directly additional 15E I think. Since we were with the kiddos, we just bought the Museum tickets for an additional 5E.

The guide was very nice and knowledgeable, but it was hard to keep up in a group in that heat. It was especially difficult to hear him at the top of the Acropolis where it and #39;s very crowded.

Anna was a very friendly guide and talked easily with everyone in our group of about 12. Her English is excellent and also took the time to answer any questions. Easy to find location for meeting the group and the length was just right! Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes!

Guide was knowledgeable and made the visit more rewarding. I was glad we had chosen to visit the New Acropolis Museum beforehand as that also helped to comprehend the structures and meanings. Group size was not too large and leaders voice was audible and he was clearly spoken.

This tour was perfect. We didn't want to be tied up with an all-day tour, but this gave us just the right amount of time. Our tour guide was fantastic- knowledgeable, great English, patient with us all, and you can tell he was passionate about everything he told us. When we arrived at the meeting spot, we were greeted by a wonderful Greek woman who shared some really genuine wisdom with us. Later to find out, she is the founder/owner of the company. The whole experience was first class, and would highly recommend for a group who wants a quick 1.5 hours of history and explanation, without being tied up all day with a tour. Couldn't say enough great things about these people!

This is a great walking tour with just the right amount of time to get a small lesson of what we were looking at without taking the other tours that last several hours. Our tour guide was so good we ended up paying extra 2 go into the museum with her.
