Acropolis Walking Tour Including Syntagma Square and Historical City Centre

One for all you history buffs! Discover Athens' ancient history on this fascinating city walking tour with an expert local guide! Venture inside the ancient Acropolis of Athens — a UNESCO World Heritage site — and discover just how this ancient monument towers above the city below. You'll also see such sites as the Greek Parliament House and Syntagma Square in the heart of central Athens. All entrance fees are at your own expense.
Meet your guide at Syntagma Station, where your tour starts. The station, and nearby area, is home to a collection of archaeological exhibits including ancient grave stones, an aqueduct from the 5th century, pottery, a 2,000-year-old beehive and an ancient mosaic.
After admiring the artifacts, your guide will introduce you to the Greek Parliament House, formerly a palace. Stop for photos by the stately structure, and then take a stroll through the historical part of the city. Continue strolling through the streets, seeing historical landmarks such as the Zeus Temple alongside other fine architecture. A leisurely paced 10-minute walk up the pedestrian walkway of Dionysiou Areopagitou leads to the Acropolis of Athens, crowned by the Parthenon with its spectacular views over the city below. On the way to the acropolis you will also see Dionysious Sanctuary, Philopapos Hill, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and Mars Hill.
The tour finishes at the acropolis' summit, where your guide will offer some tips for other places to see independently in Athens.
On the first part we were a small group and it was easy to get along what the guide said. On the other part, several people joined the group and the group became a bit large and it could sometimes be difficult to get along with everything our skilled guide told us. But We had a great tour

This review is 2 years too late! We took this trip in Oct 2014 and our tour guide was Kostas. It was and amazing tour and Kostas was very knowledgable, relatable and friendly. There was a lot of walking....a lot. So be prepared and wear comfy shoes. The Acropolis is crazy busy with tourist and keep in mind you are walking uphill...a long way so I don't recommend sandles. There is a point where you are walking up stairs and its slippery with not much traction so be careful if you are clumsy. We had already walked around the Temple of Zeus the day before because our hotel was right across the street, but going with Kostas made it so much better. Yes you can walk around yourself and not pay for a guide, but to hear the stories and legends of this amazing city while looking at sites you only read about in books is a better experience all around and definitley worth the money.

Our tour guide Aris was very knowledgeable. Great tour. Saw a lot of the major sites. The duration of the tour was just right- not too long and not too short. It ended early enough in the afternoon for you to spend the rest of the day/night exploring the rest of the city. Highly recommend!

The guide was very knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about the history of the city. Despite the heat (it was 37C in Athens that day), it was worth every minute. She also found us shade (we needed it) and did most of the talking there. I highly recommend this tour.

this tour was not for me, as I move quickly; 3h15 in and we were still not at the top of the Acropolis. Bring your exact euros for ticket pls! or pre-purchae your combo ticket. Please AWT consider the feedback and get radios and provide an Acropolis focused shorter tour.

If you are into history and walking tours, this is a no-brainer. Our guide, Aris Sichlimiris, was one of the most knowledgeable and friendly people I have ever met. He answered several tough questions from the crowd and kept us laughing all day. Wear comfortable shoes! Would highly recommend!

The tour was great. We were running late due to airline delays and we were able to contact them and they made sure we met up with the group 20 mins late. We didn't miss much. Our guide was great. She was very knowledgeable and offered up great insights into how Ancient Greek life and knowledge influences us to this day. August in Athens is VERY HOT! She did a great job of leading us from one shady spot to the next. Unfortunately, there is very little shade on top of the Acropolis but it was worth it. Make sure to visit the New Acropolis Museum as well. It is spectacular.

The tour guide was enthusiastic and full of interesting knowledge of Athens. Very good english speaker easy to hear and understand. My wife was carrying a heavy bag and the guide found a safe place to store it during the tour. We had our baby along, it was a sunny day and hot and our guide found us shady places and directed us to water and other refreshments to keep us comfortable. The tour covers a lot of ground but the walking is not extreme. Lots of opportunities for photos and nice views. Be sure to be ready for heat and sun on the Acropolis, not much shade there. Temple of Zeus and Acropolis is great to see. Syntagma square was not too interesting to me.

This was a fabulous tour. Our tour guide Hermes, a Japanese/Greek guy was awesome. He was very informative, his manner was entertaining and he competently answered all the questions thrown at him. We would recommend this tour as a great way to not only see the monuments in Athens but to understand them and the colourful history associated with them. It was one of the highlights of our holiday.

One cannot come to Athens and not visit the Acropolis. We booked a 3-hour walking tour, that began in Syntagma Square, took us by the Parliament building just the Guard changed, and eventually concluded at the Acropolis.

This should be the first thing tourists do. I learned a lot and I have general idea where the places are in Athens. Our guide was excellent and three and a half hours went by quickly. I had a little problem to make a reservation with an us credit card. A staff promised me to resolve the problem.

A wonderful tour guide and intimate as the group was small. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and Acropolis et al is beautiful. Wear comfortable running shoes with traction e.g. Hiking shoes and there is a lot of climbing. An awesome tour!

This is well worth it as an orientation to a little bit of modern Greek history and a few of the key sites. The meeting place was easy to find, our guide Hermes was extremely knowledgeable, and it covered just the right amount of ground for the time allotted. Ending at the Acropolis is great so you can continue to explore, and use the rest of the day at the Acropolis museum, like we did, or walk to other nearby ancient sites and neighborhoods to explore.

The tour was interesting, informative, and enjoyable. Tour is informative and fun, only problem is that tour starts at 9:30 and after 2 hours it reaches the acropolis so by the time the ascent starts it's almost midday and during summer the heat is almost unbearable!! my wife almost passed out due to high heat and lack of water all over the acropolis. Probably best to start with acropolis then continue around the city when the heat is at its peak.
