Heridanos, a river god, son of Oceanus and Tithys, was a small stream that flowed from a source at the foothills of Lycabettos through the ancient agora to the archaeological site of Kerameikos. Part of the river was unearthed during the excavation of the metro. Ilissos was a river god in antiquity and his great importance for ancient Athenians made Fidias depict him as an old and wise man in Parthenons gable.
