Athens Super Saver: City Sightseeing Tour plus Half-Day Cape Sounion Trip

Athens, Greece

Discover two beautiful, fascinating Ancient Greece locations with this Athens Super Saver. With your guide, explore Athens and visit breathtaking monuments like the Acropolis and the Parthenon. See Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games was held in 1896, and discover fascinating archeological findings at the Acropolis Museum. In the afternoon, take a scenic trip to Cape Sounion's Temple of Poseidon, a white beacon gleaming atop a cliff overlooking the Agean Sea.

Morning: Athens Sightseeing Tour
After pickup from your Athens hotel in the morning by comfortable, air-conditioned coach, visit the Acropolis, the crowning beauty and glory of Ancient Athens. See several monuments atop its rocky base, including the awesome Parthenon, the Propylea, the temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion, with its Porch of Maidens.

Next, drive to Panathenaic Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House in Constitution Square and see views of government buildings and elegant 19th-century structures.

Get a taste of modern Athens with a drive along Panepistimiou Avenue, where you'll see the Catholic Cathedral of Athens, Academy of Athens, University of Athens and National Library. Finish with a visit to the Acropolis Museum, featuring fascinating archaeological exhibitions. Your tour will end around 1:30pm, and you’ll have about an hour of free time to relax and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (own expense) before your afternoon tour.

Afternoon: Cape Sounion Trip
Around 2:45pm, board the coach for a drive to Cape Sounion, passing the idyllic beaches of the Saronic Gulf along the way. When you arrive, see the astounding Temple of Poseidon, a gleaming white beacon perched on a rocky hilltop overlooking the sea.

Admire an incredible view across the Aegean Sea and even the island of Kea on a clear day. Learn from your guide how the temple was built in 44 BC, and how many of its original Doric columns are still standing. One of the columns features a graffito left by English poet Lord Byron in the early 1800s.

After your tour, you’ll be driven comfortably back to your Athens hotel.

This is actually 2 different tours priced as one. Both guides were very excellent. They were knowledgeable and friendly (like most Greeks). The museum before going to the ruins was great. It really helps you understand more what you're looking at when you get up to the top. And the drive to Cape Sounion was gorgeous!! So many beautiful beach towns that I would like to go back and spend more time in. Overall, it was a long day but well worth it. Just be prepared for big crowds around the Acropolis.

We lucked out on the day of our tour because it rained on and off that day and we missed the storms each time. Cape Sounion is a must see destination in my opinion. The views were breathtaking and our tour guide was very informative.

You spend most of your time in the Acropolis Museum or outside listening to the guide. Hardly any time is given to find just the right photo. There was less than 1 hr to find a place to eat and eat lunch in between tours. The afternoon was nice and the timing was better. Pick up and drop off worked out great.

VERY RUSHED AT THE MAIN SITE! So much so that we decided to pay another 20 Euros a ticket per person 3 of us! and go back on our own the last day when we had not schedule anything...getting up there with the huge bus took a lot of time, and then they allotted an hour and a half for lunch before the second half of the tour, which was a waste given that we had SO little time at the Acropolis. SUGGESTION: schedule the museum tour first, then take the group to the Acropolis, and end the first half of the tour there for those who want to stay longer. Regroup at a specified time and place for the second half like you did. The trip to Cape Sunion was long, but the temple and the surrounding sites are impressive in the historical context.

Dr. Emma was an informed tour guide! Really enjoyed Acropolis Hill, the archaeological sites. The new museum was so interesting, viewing discovered relics and ancient Greek artifacts. Cape Sounion was a beautiful ride along the coast. Wish we had time for a lunch or dinner on the sea!

This split tour was spoilt by the long wait between tours._br/_ The city sight seeing is well worth it and was informative._br/_ The museum alone was excellent. Could have spent more time there than what the tour allowed._br/_ The Cape Sounion trip was long and uneventful._br/_ Not much to see or do when we arrived at Cape Sounion.

We loved starting Greece, trip of a lifetime, with the Acropolis and then down to Cape Sounion. A most delightful, informative day. The tour guides were terrific.

We booked this trip for our first full day in Athens and appreciated the bus tour for an overview of the city. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. The only down side was not the fault of the tour but reflective of many of the historical sites we visited. Just before we left on this trip, my husband ended up with a big boot on his left foot due to a foot issue and found that he was unable to go up the steep, uneven steps where there were no handrails. The tour of the New Acropolis Museum was excellent. The bus ride to Cape Souion was lovely as were the vistas looking down from the Temple of Poseidon. All in all it was a great experience!

I had a hard time rating this package but decided that I would give 5 stars for the city sightseeing and 3 stars for the Cape Sounion portion of the tour. If I had it to do over again, I would probably have opted out of the Cape Sounion portion of the day or opted to take it on a different day as it was a lot of driving and you do not get to see the sunset that many people note as the highlight of going to Cape Sounion. The city sightseeing tour was great. Our guide, Mariana, was excellent and provided a great balance between fact and mythology during the tour. The Acropolis and Acropolis Museum are must sees. The museum is not large but is so well put together that you will thoroughly enjoy your time there. And the Acropolis is the Acropolis. In hindsight I wish I would have spent the second half of the day exploring the area around the Acropolis and saved Cape Sounion for another day.

The morning was full of information and sights with the Acropolis and its museum as the highlight. The afternoon took us to a beautiful spot in the south of Greece by the sea. The tour was less informative, more of a trip outside the city to see this beautiful region and the temple of Poseidon.

Great tour, very knowledgeable tour guide. Helps to be on a tour to be able to skip the lines of people trying to see the acropolis. The Cape Sounion tour was also good. A downside is that I thought we would be able to see the sunset. This only happens a few times a year.

First we had to walk a ways to get to the hotel that your meet at no hotel pick up . We found out that the bus parked right next to our hotel so we could have met them there. They went to the acropolis at the absolute busiest time when all the cruise ships go. They should know this and even if they went a 1/2 later it would have been fine. You could not move and the worst part of it was our tour director kept stopping to talk, but you could not hear her. She was too soft spoken that most of the group left and went on their own. We regrouped for the museum, but you still could not hear her unless you were right on top of her. So again, a lot of us left the group. By then we had had it and found it a waste of money on this trip and did not go on the second part to Sounion. Two things would have made the world of difference. Know when the cruise ships are in and either go earlier or later and have a louder tour guide or give her a mic.

The Athens Sightseeing tour was good. The tour guide was okay. Should have allotted more time to see the Parthenon and less time to see the Acropolis Museum. Also did not start tour on time. We were waiting in the bus for a long time. The afternoon tour to Cape Sounion was excellent. Guide was informative and the scenery was splendid!

The first part of visiting acropolis was awesome, and the guide was well informed and kept the group together. The other part, the Cape Sounion trip, I hope it was told in advance that it was for early in the afternoon so we couldn't see the famous sunset in the summer time. The tour guide was quite boring and put me to sleep.

The tour guide for the Athens Super Saver: City Sightseeing Tour was fantastic. The tour guide for the Half Day Cape Sounion Trip did not really get involved except for a few minutes up at the site._br/_ One of the nice parts of this tour was that we got picked up at our hotel.

Wonderful to see Athens. Beautiful city with so much history. However the tour will tell you that they will pick you up at your hotel and they will not. They notified our hotel late the night before putting us in a position where it was too late to cancel and so we took a taxi the next day. Traffic was terrible so we were late and the bus had left. They did try to help us catch up with the tour, but we missed part of it and were rushed to meet our tour. We met a another group of ladies in a cooking class and they too experienced the same issue. So note is that if you take this tour do not expect the hotel pick up. They will confirm you and the pick up and then call you the night before to tell you they won't pick you up. Ruined this tour opportunity for us.

Too many people on tour which made it hard for the guide to control and manage progress. Also, too much squeezed in which meant having to rush the highlights of the Acropolis itself and the Acropolis museum. However, for a first day in Athens, it was good to orientate us. Cape Sounion was great!

Informative and amusing tour guide, good photo opportunities when we were able to stop and take them. Wear sneakers or walking shoes - the amount of women in high heels stumbling around on slippery, uneven marble at the Parthenon was astonishing. Cape Sounion is beautiful, but the reason it's a half-day is the 90 minute drive there and back. Otherwise, there isn't much there except the temple of Poseidon, which is just gorgeous.

Tour of Athens by bus is not very informative, as there is so much to see but not much time to hop off the bus to experience the sites. The morning tour is really designed to visit the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. We felt the tour was worth having a guide to explain the history of the Acropolis. The afternoon trip to Cape Sounion takes 3 hours, roundtrip, to see a temple built for Poseidon. The views of the water are amazing, as we were there to see the sunset.

The Athens sightseeing tour had an excellent guide. She did great job at the Museum with excellent knowledge. The Acropolis Museum_br/_ and then the hike to the top could not have been better. The stop at the Olympic stadium was only a photo from the outside_br/_ would have liked to get in to take a better picture-but admission was not included.

Amazing orientation of Athens. Loved the Parthenon and even on such busy days there was plenty of time to enjoy. Trip to Cape Sounion gives you a scenic drive along coast and worth the trip. Must do in Athens

Morning was great: long tour of city highlights, climb Acropolis to see Parthenon and a very knowledgeable guide through the new museum, the dimensions and orientation of which mirror the Parthenon. Afternoon tour to Cape Sounion is often scenic along the coast but you spend 1.5-2 hours on the bus each way for 30-45 minute stay and the temple is frankly probably only interesting for the archaeology enthusiast. Morning is a must, afternoon something to do if you have nothing better to do.

great tour of the acropolis, very informative guide and packed a lot into 4 hours. The Cape Sounion tour was nice but not worth the extra 4 hours and the cost. Tour guide got distracted by a straggler, very unfair to those of us who were on time and stayed with the group.
