Half Day Tour From one awe inspiring site to the next is how your day starts, unfolds & just keeps going! From pick up at your hotel we head to the entrance to the Acropolis passing by the Roman theatre of Herodion, still hosting modern performances. Ascending the ancient stone steps you will reach the pinnacle of Greek antiquity, the Parthenon and Erechtheion with plenty of time to take photos, and contemplate this amazing site learning about its turbulent history and the mythological struggles of the gods over the name of the city before descending through the olive trees towards the Roman Agora for an insight into the important Roman period of the city. Continuing towards Hadrian's library & the vibrant Monistaraki square we will explore the famous ‘Plaka’ market with its bustle & colour, and find the near complete ancient Temple of Hephaestus and the extensive site of the Ancient ‘Agora which was the hub and focus of ancient Athenian life. A perfect place to choose from one of the many tavernas & cafes along the boutique Adriano street with wonderful views to the ancient market site, we then pause for a relaxing lunch discussing how the ancient Greeks would have gathered to trade, exchange news, worship & carry out the street politics of the day at the site.
Full Day Tour Our full day tour adds to the above the ancient Temple of Zeus and Arch of Hadrian. the impressive Olympic stadium & venue for the start of the modern olympics in 1896 and former Royal Palace and National Gardens, taking time to explore this green oasis amid ponds and ancient ruins in the city center and emerging at the central Syntagma Square to see the Greek Parliament building and the Changing of the Guard.
A private tour exclusive to your group allowing flexibility, your English-speaking guide will take full and special care of you during you trip and provide all the historical, mythological, ancient and modern context along the way to help you make the most of the places you will visit. Your tour guide can not accompany you into ticketed sites but for those wishing a guided tour inside the sites themselves we collaborate with a select number of licensed on-site professional guides and can provide these on request.
Wonderful day tour! This tour is a MUST do! Our wonderful guide, Konstantine, took us to all the major sites including but not limited to: The Acropolis, the tower of the winds, the Agora, the temple of Hephaestus, the temple of Zeus, the roman library, the olympic stadium and more! _br/_ Before each location, Konstantine gave us a briefing about the history and myths of the site before allowing us time to explore the area on our own. The one thing to know is that the guide does not go into Acropolis with you, however gives you ample time to explore the Parthenon etc. on your own. After each location, he answered and expanded on any and all questions. _br/_ Konstantine also personalized our tour, pointing out good local restaurants and distilleries to try, as well as other sites we shouldn't miss during our trip since we had mentioned we would be in Athens for a few days. _br/_ If you want to see all the highlights in one day, learn some history, hear some myths, and explore a bit on your own, this is your tour! If you have multiple days to spend in Athens, this is also your tour! and would highly recommend it for your first full day in Athens, as the tour also allows you to get a feel for the area and a feel for any sites you would like to spend more time at.
