Greek Cooking Class in Athens Including Rooftop Dinner with Acropolis View
Athens, Greece
Get a taste of real Greek cuisine during this 3.5-hour cooking class in Athens. Head to a much-loved bakery in the vibrant Monastiraki neighborhood, where you’ll be taught how to prepare and cook classic Greek dishes by an experienced chef. Then, when your work is done, join your fellow food-lovers on the bakery’s roof to enjoy your freshly prepared 3-course dinner with out-of-this-world views of the city and the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Acropolis of Athens. Numbers limited to eight people, ensuring a small-group experience.
Make your own way to the start point in the flea market neighborhood of Monastiraki, located in the heart of Athens Old Town. Meet your tour host in the area’s central square, and then walk to a beloved downtown bakery.
Head inside to meet your instructor — an experienced local chef — and begin with an overview of the dishes you’ll be creating during your class as well as an introduction to the tantalizing world of Greek cuisine. Then, set to work preparing and cooking a traditional 3-course meal with the chef close by to show you the correct techniques. Dishes vary, but typically include Greek delights like tzatziki, galaktompoureko (creamy custard pie) and spinach phyllo pastries.
After your class, head up onto the bakery’s roof and sit down with the rest of your small group to enjoy the food that you and your fellow foodies have cooked. While you eat, relax with a glass of red or white wine and ogle the unparalleled views of the city, topped by the majestic Acropolis of Athens, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Your tour concludes after you’ve finished your meal at the bakery.

Loved the food and the setting. Unfortunately it was too cold to eat on the roofterrace the night we where there, but they solved that by letting us enjoy the view and a few drinks there before we went in to eat. Learned a lot about greek food and the chef and guide where great fun to talk to.

My husband and I were totally impressed with our Greek cooking class on May 19th. Our teachers, Dimitrius and Spiros, were fun, courteous, patient, and very skilled. With just enough help, we got to make many classic Greek recipes using traditional ingredients and techniques. After about 2 hours of fun cooking and tasting, we were escorted to the rooftop terrace for a once-in-a-lifetime, al fresco dinner looking at the lit-up Acropolis of Athens. Talk about memorable! Dimitrius and Spiros kindly joined us for dinner and kept us entertained for a relaxing hour or so on the terrace while we dined and watched the sunset. We took home all recipes that we made in the class, such as country spinach pie, Greek salad, tzatziki, eggplant with tomatoes, peppers, and feta, and bougatza an amazingly delicious and not-too-sweet phyllo pastry dessert filled with custard. Don't miss this cooking class if you are in Athens!

Excellent evening well run by Spiros and his team.. Learnt a lot about Greek cooking and had a lovely rooftop meal with fellow travelers as well... Also visited the store the next day and Spiros made the best coffee I have had in Greece... not a commendation I give lightly as I am A coffee snob..completely spoiled by the amazing quality of coffee in my home country, New Zealand. This evening will be a great memory to take home along with the other incredible sights of Athens.

A definite must do in Athens. We have cooked Greek food ourselves at home but this was a unique experience and well worth the time. It was raining so we could not take advantage of the rooftop for dining but Jupa xhilda set up a dining table inside and we had a wonderful meal as result of Jupa teaching us how to make the spanakopita, greek salad, stuffed eggplant and creamed filled desert with phyllo. It was a night to remember!

Our cooking class happened on a rainy day so we did not get to have the rooftop dinner with the acropolis view. Nevertheless the cooking class was fun and we learned a lot. What would be helpful, is if the guides asked for our email addresses and sent us the recipes after the class. I totally forgot to bring the recipes with me and was bummed because the dishes we made were absolutely delicious even though they were all vegetarian dishes.

This experience was one of the highlights of our time in Athens. My wife and were the only people in our class, and the organizer and chef were kind enough to not cancel, leaving us with a private experience. We learned a lot about authentic Greek cuisine and experienced preparing and cooking Greek cuisine with fresh, simple ingredients. There is certainly some work involved in this experience, but that is part of the fun! After preparing a delicious Greek salad with fresh Feta, we made spinach and cheese pie, Papoutsakia a delicious eggplant dish, authentic Tzatziki, and finally Galaktoboureko, a creamy custard pie. Afterwards, we sat on the rooftop terrace with a beautiful view of Athens and enjoyed our meal with a glass of wine. We highly recommend this experience for anyone looking to learn about and practice preparing authentic Greek cuisine.
