Experience a half day small-group trip with minivan along the picturesque south Attica coastal road and visit to the 5th century BC temple of Poseidon. Cape Sounion is a wonderful choice for a half day trip from Athens and is a world famous location to watch the sunset. The blue flag beaches are a popular attraction as well. Relax just a step away from the temple and enjoy your refreshment or wine along with breathtaking views of the Aegean.
This half day small-group tour begins by picking you up from your hotel. You will drive along coastal roads passing through some of Athens most beautiful suburbs (Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza) and watching some amazing views of the Saronic Gulf. After a 45-minute drive along the coastal road and driving through idyllic beaches and small villages, you will have your first stop at a nearby beach. Relax by the deep blue waters of the Aegean sea and enjoy refreshments, a beer or a light meal. Swimming is available at the beach as well, just remember to bring your swimsuits. Last stop will be at the location of a temple dedicated to the god of the sea, Poseidon. The host will provide you background information about the 5th century B.C. temple. This tour concludes by heading back to Athens and dropping you off at your hotel.
The scenic drive to the Temple of Poseidon alone is an amazing journey along the coast! Our guide was fantastic at giving us the history of the Temple, Athens and Greece itself. This monument is absolutely breathtaking!!

The sunset and the site itself is very beautiful, as well as the journey there has some scenic coastline views to enjoy. However, on the return we had to spent an hour in a restaurant that was affiliated with the tour guide and they served below par food, tea and coffee and the tea made my wife extremely ill, the other people we traveled with sipped their coffee once about 4 of them and didn't touch it further, it was one of those affiliated deals for some more coins in the tour guide's pocket.

Fantastic day with our knowleable and pleasant guide Christos. The small group allowed us to enjoy a leisurely pace, we lingered and enjoyed the view and a coffee near the Temple of Poseidon and a relaxing lunch along the seaside. Our 10 year old enjoyed it as well-playing along the sea.

For a visit to Sounion this was perfect. Half day, great guide Christo, and a tasty lunch. Sounion is one of the most most majestic spots in Greece, if you've never been. I highly recommend, if you're spending time in Athens.

We picked the afternoon tour to try and get the sunset. We received an email a few days before advising of time change of tour due to daylight savings and also to give us directions to closest pick-up point, which was only a 5 minute walk from our hotel. Great small group in a comfortable minivan, beautiful drive along south Attica coastal road with a photo stop not far from the Temple of Poseidon god of the sea on the cape. We spent some time walking around the temple whilst waiting for a possible sunset but for the first time in 20 days the sunset was not that awesome due to excess clouds. Our tour guide explained the history of the temple, with it being a landmark for ancient and modern mariners. Even though the sunset was not what we had anticipated we were still in awe of the site. Our journey ended with a light supper at a nearby restaurant on the bay. Highly recommend this tour as you get to see some of the countryside away from the busy buzz of Athens. We arrived around noon to our hotel and wanted a first evening adventure._br/_ were picked up at the hotel at the appointed time._br/_ good narration of sights on the way to the cape a couple of stops for pictures then some time at the adjacent harbor before heading up to the Temple of Posieden. _br/_ we took the sunset tour so got a bit crowded as sunset neared._br/_ the setting sun put an enhancing glow on the structure so heightened the beauty._br/_ Very nice view of the sunset over the islands and the Posieden Temple was impressive._br/_ Recommended for an evening tour._br/_ A bit of a long drive over an hour to the cape, but after leaving the city a lot of nice views of the seacoast and islands on the way.

Excellent tour to Cape Sounion. The drive was picturesque down the coastline and our visit to the Temple was breathtaking. _br/_ The best part if the day was our tour guide Cristo, extremely knowledgeable and entertaining, excellent driver, and made the day perfect. _br/_ Cristo had an emmense level of knowledge from the temple to overall Greek history and life. We went on the evening tour initially booked a morning tour but was informed that there were not enough people to attend so we could attend an evening tour instead. This probably worked out better for us as we got to see the sunset views which I would definitely recommend over the morning tour!. We had a wonderful tour guide called Christos who was very humourous as well as knowledgable and we had a great time with him and our group - even made some nice friends! The drive to Cape Sounion is beautiful but very long and if you're not a fan of long winding drives it can make you feel a bit uneasy. We first stopped by the Aegean sea to have a quick 45min rest or have a light snack or drink. The restaurant isn't the most speedy so we only had 10mins to eat our food and pay, so that we didn't hold up the rest of the tour group! We then drove up to the Temple of Poseidon - make sure you have 8 Euros on you, as this is not included in the tour price but required to go up to the Temple by foot. We got some great photos and then we were driven back to our hotel. Unfortunately most of this tour is driving there and back as there is very little to do at the Temple it self but it was great going back in time through a very thorough history lesson with spectacular views!

We enjoyed this late afternoon/evening trip to Cape Sounio.It is an exceptionally scenic site, wonderful for photos. It was a pleasant break from our long days of walking and hiking. Be prepared to pay another 8 Euros each just to walk out to the Temple. But worth it!

Great option for seeing Cape Sounion during an Athens city visit without having to rent a car. Plenty of time for pictures and sunset is absolutely the best time to go here. Our tour guide was super cool and gave me great ideas for what to do the remainder of my time in Athens.

What an amazing and unforgettable tour! It was truly a highlight of our trip to Athens. Our driver and guide was very knowleadgable and spoke English very well. He met us on time at hour hotel and provided key highlights along the way on our drive to Sounion. We had a stop at a delightful tavern and had a swim in the blue Aegean waters before heading on up to the temple of Poseidon for a terrific treat at sunset! The views were amazing! This is definitely a must book trip!

In May of 2017 we have visited Cape Sounion by tour. Our tour guide was named Kristos, and he was an amazing guide. Knowledgable about Greek history, he told us so many interesting things about Greece's rich past. He spoke wonderful English as he explained to us about Greece in general. He was extremely nice and answered all of our questions which quickly filled our minds as we took in the new surroundings.

Moreover, the ride to and fro from Cape Sounion had a steady yet informative banter. Lastly, the tour itself is breathtaking. The sunset backdrop to the Poseidon temple, and a short stop at a beach made the evening really special. Thus, a must do when visiting Athens.

: If you are tired of the busy life in Athens and would like to spend some time by the sea-side, this is a good trip. I also liked very much, that you can book it relative last-minute, as well as this that you have the options for a morning or an evening tour. I took the evening trip and the sun set was breath-taking!! The bus ride was also quite comfortable. _br/_ -: The driver of the bus is also the tour-guide and doesn't have so much time to explain things, during the ride, as he has to focus on the road safety first, of course!. The temple itself is in the middle of nowhere and you can definitely not compare it with the Parthenon. Also, there is an entrance fee of 8 Euro to the Temple of Poseidon, which is not included in the trip price and you have to pay additionally. It would have also been nicer if we had more time to enjoy the beach, but... some time is still better than none :.

There was supposed to be another family on this tour, but they had canceled. It ended up being a private tour for my husband and I. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Getting to see neighborhoods and the coast when driving out of Athens was a good experience. There was a stop for a quick dinner on our own prior to driving up to the Temple of Poseidon, which was wonderful! We ate at a quaint restaurant right next to the water and it had a view of the Temple above. We ordered a glass of wine, which was their house wine. This wine was actually made by them and it gave new meaning to house wine for me. The temple overlooked the sea and the views were incredible! This was one of the highlights for me on my trip to Greece!

we had a really great, nice and knowledgable guide, telling us about Greece's present, past and mythology._br/_ pickup was on time, the drive along the shore was beautiful and we were lucky with the beautiful sunset view. it was also very comofrtable not to have to drive back myself in the evening._br/_ I would rate the tour very good, but at the same time I now know that for me it would probably be better to rent a cheap car for a day and stop along the coast for a swim or two missing the information you get by a tour guide.

Christos our knowledgeable guide was a great treat to have on the tour. After 2 weeks in Greece this was the perfect way to end the trip. He harmonized a lot of information from various other sites. The temple itself was very well restored and it wasn't nearly as busy as the Acropolis allowing for great photos!

Metina our guide and the driver picked us up at our hotel for an hour ride down the coast to the most beautiful location- on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Amazing ancient temple dedicated to Poseidon right there overlooking the water. Cafe and drinks available. A lot of people there to watch the sunset over the ocean. Just amazing.

The tour was nice, but the description includes a stop at a beach to relax and enjoy a meal. We were driven to the temple, our guide explained some things along the way, we got a coffee at the cafe at the temple, and then were driven back. The tour cost 45 euro and did not include the price to enter the temple or lunch. Steep price for a ride to the temple and some information, was disappointed we did not stop at a beach and also had to pay to get into the temple.

Our tour guide Matina and Christos are the best!!! First, they were on time in picking us up and patiently waited for our group to get in. The tour on the way was learning experience as they explained everything we saw and did not see and stopped by along the way for a view pic taking. Up the hill, Matina was a bomb to be with! Besides all the facts about the area, she has a sense of humor even though she was suffering from a cold and the evening was a bit chilly but she was just there attending to everyone in the group. Going back, they were even very helpful finding us a store for something we really needed. We took the sunset tour by the way and had a little traffic on the way back but every minute of the tour was fun and full of info. Kudos to Getaway tours!!! Will definitely refer them to friends!

The tour was awesome and I and #39;m happy that I chose to do it. Theo was a good tour guide and very informative. The ride was beautiful along the coast and we stopped for a bite to eat at a seafood restaurant. Afterwards we saw the temple and the sunset and it was perfectly timed.

This was a very easy and comfortable trip. The bus picked us up right on time. We had a nice small group of people, and the tour guide Theodore was such a great person! He gave us lots of facts about Athens, and told us the mythology and history about this specific location. He really made us feel at ease and made the whole trip more fun. The driver of the bus did a great job and was also very friendly. The cape is beautiful. When you arrive, it is very crowded with other tourists, but it's worth it. Definitely go at sunset. Bring a bathing suit if you like to swim because the first stop is on a little beach with a restaurant!
