The driver was waiting for us as we exited the ferry. We walked directly to his nearby taxi and were at our hotel in central Athens in twenty minutes. A private transfer costs a bit extra, but no standing in an endless line for a taxi makes it worth the expense.

We were expecting a private driver, but a taxi cab showed up to take us from the cruise port to the hotel. We would not have had a problem with the taxi cab, but we were looking for a a private driver because that is what the tour said.

The reason for one less star was convenience. Unlike our airport transfer, this one was not confirmed by the company until I emailed them which was harder to do when we were on the islands with sketchy wifi. However, the driver was there waiting with a sign when we got there even though our ferry was way after scheduled time.

It was a bit unorganized. We had 8 people and luggage and expected a vehicle that could handle that. Instead, they kept adding taxis until we had 3 different taxis for all of us and the luggage. We did get to the hotel and in fairness they were there on time.
