Sunset at the Cape Sounion Half Day Tour

Our tour starts with a wonderful drive along the Athens Rivera. During this relaxing ride you’ll enjoy splendid views of the Saronic Gulf while passing through some of Athens’ most beautiful suburbs, including Hellinikon Olympic complex, Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza.

Arriving at the Cape Sounion, you will visit the 5th century B.C. Temple of Poseidon with its magnificent panoramic view of the Aegean Sea (on a clear day you can see at least seven islands). Cape Sounion has long played an important part in Greek mythology and history, and the first recorded mention of it occurs in the Odyssey, as the last safe landing before Poseidon scattered the returning Greek navy. As god of the sea, Poseidon was very important for ancient Greeks, and the scale of the Temple at Cape Sounion reflects that.

After visiting the Temple, filled from the beauty, the history and the culture of this site we will wait to admire one of the most amazing sunsets you could ever imagine. And when the sun begins to slowly touch the sea it is the perfect moment for a sparkling glass of wine, before returning back to your hotel.

Our tour guide, Anastasia, was very knowledgeable. She gave us a lot of information on the long bus ride. The cape at sunset was stunning!

This was a good tour to see some of the coastline south of Athens and to see and spend some time at Sounion. The bus was comfortable and the guide was quite knowledgeable and was willing to answer any questions the group had. Be aware that this was NOT a sunset tour and there was no wine included in the tour. we arrived back in Athens at around 6pm and sunset was a 7pm. I would still recommend the tour for the site but the title of the tour was misleading.

Beautiful sunset and then a choice of white or red wine at the end. Not sparkling wine while watching the sunset. Wine was after and not very tasty tasted like vinegar.

It was so beautiful, the temple, the sunset, the ride there is breathtaking our guide was very good explaining all we saw along the way, pointing the famous points._br/_ Once there, we make our way up to the Temple it is wonderful, we tried looking for Lord Biron's name but couldn't find the column? Regardless we were treated to a wonderful sunset._br/_ Afterward we sipped a refreshment or wine on a terrace, wile gazing a the lit up Temple and the beautiful sea surrounding us._br/_ I really encourage you to take this excursion

It was awesome seeing the temple of posiedon. The bus was comfortable and the tour guide was really friendly. In future I would plan to go on a different tour that supplied food and drinks, because the drive is quite long and the cafe at the end is a bit average.

Poseidon's temple at sunset is beautiful. Several comments about the tour: 1 THERE IS NO WINE!!!!!! When we and other participants asked we were told that wine has not been part of the tour ever and was not planned, despite the listed inclusions in the advertisement. The tour guide's attempts to divert the discussion away from the non-existent wine should make her a candidate to become a diplomat or White House Press Secretary. 2 While the temple is impressive, especially at sunset, we spent over 2.5 hours getting there starting with 1.25 hours driving in circles in Athens picking folks up at their hotels, just 45 minutes at the temple Including the monuments folks chasing us out of the area just 10 minutes after the sunset, and then 1.5 hours riding home. This is, IMHO, a poor travel time-to-activities time ratio. Tour would be improved if we started earlier and stopped at another historic site/point of interest along the way or for dinner somewhere along the way overlooking the ocean.

Sounion is AMAZING. It is really really a beautiful place and I highly recommend this excursion for anyone who is interested in getting out of the city. The tour guide was really knowledgeable, however I felt completely rushed. We were there just as the sun was setting and I really wanted to take in the sights and really enjoy the grounds. The tour guide was really excellent, but we only had 10 minutes to enjoy the grounds on our own before the site closed. I'm glad I did the tour you get a lot of great information that you'd never get otherwise, but if you're looking to relax and enjoy the actual grounds, I suggest renting a car and spending more time on your own. After we left the actual site, we did get to spend about an hour sipping a glass of wine and admiring the sunset from afar. This was, again, really nice but personally I would have liked to have spent more time at the actual site/surrounding areas.

This tour was amazing. Our appreciation for Matina who is a wonderful tour guide, very caring and clear in her explanations and so attentive. The wine tasting event was also such a nice experience. The scenery during the trip to Cape Sounion was breathtakingly beautiful and so was it around the Temple of Poseidon. The tour was an unforgettable event.

I had been to Athens once before and therefore wanted to explore something a little different this trip. I figured the poseidon temple would be fantastic at sunset but I was a little worried that the long trip to and from Cape Sounion would be disappointing for my family and me. It absolutely was not. The views from the bus the entire time were beautiful. We got to see a side of Athens we were not otherwise able to see. The Riviera south of Athens was lovely - beautiful beaches and small towns I didn't know existed. Very different from the crowded city of Athens yet not deserted or decaying as so many of the towns we saw inland during our drive from Athens to Meteora earlier in the trip. This was a delight. We enjoyed our tour guide and the beautiful views of Cape Sounion once we arrived. The pick up and drop off at our hotel made this easy. It was definitely worth it in my opinion and I think worthwhile even for first timers in Athens.

Great afternoon/evening spent driving along the Athenian Riviera with a quick guided tour of the temple ruins before being left on our own to watch the sun set over the water. The lighting of the setting sun was pure magic. Every photo we took looks amazing. And the glass of wine to toast to the setting sun is perfection. This was our last tour of our trip and was a perfect way to conclude our tour of Greece. Highly recommend it if you want a relaxing tour and sunset experience.
