Viator Exclusive: Acropolis of Athens, New Acropolis Museum and Greek Dinner

Athens, Greece

Behold the beginnings of Western civilization with an experienced archaeologist on a 4-hour walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Unparalleled history unfolds as you stroll by the Parthenon and other monuments of the Acropolis of Athens; visit the New Acropolis Museum to gawk at ancient statues; and delight in sweeping views of the citadel during an authentic Greek dinner. It’s an afternoon fit for the gods, and a Viator Exclusive created just for our customers. The experience can’t be booked anywhere else!

Arrive at Athens Red Line ticket station to meet your guide, an experienced archaeologist, and then start your Viator Exclusive: a unique combination of a tour, museum visit and dining experience at the Acropolis of Athens. Enter from the south slope of the acropolis and set off on your leisurely walking tour of some of the world’s finest monuments.

Along the way, listen as your guide shares knowledgeable insight of the citadel’s ruins including excavation details. Visit the Theatre of Dionysus — an amphitheater that is arguably the birthplace of the performing arts. Perch yourself on one of the stone seats to imagine the sights and sounds experienced by ancient theatergoers who came to watch plays by Greek writers Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. You’ll also pass the Odeon of Herodes Atticus; the theater is still used today during the Athens Festival from May to October.

Find peace and quiet at an asclepieion — a healing temple that honored the god of medicine Asclepius — before continuing to one of the most recognized buildings on the planet: the Parthenon. Meander around the perimeter of the temple to learn more about how it was constructed for the goddess Athena.

Once you familiarize yourself with the site's classical architecture, head indoors to the New Acropolis Museum for a brief break and refreshments (own expense) in the cafe. Ranked one of the top five museums in the world, the New Acropolis Museum boasts collections of statues and other relics of everyday life in several galleries. In the Gallery of the Slopes of the Acropolis, the glass floor occasionally reveals an archaeological excavation site.

End the day with a delicious dinner at a nearby restaurant that affords views of the Parthenon and surrounding hills. Indulge in an authentic Greek meal paired with a bottle of wine as you discuss the history you discovered on this exclusive tour.

We ended up with a private tour because no one else showed up. Our tour guide was great. Very knowledgable. The museum was nice. The Greek dinner was just okay. Honestly, for the price we paid, I expected a better dinner.

We had a tour guide, Daphne, all to ourselves. She was wonderful. She took very good care of us since we are in our sixties, taking her time as we ascended the stairs and making sure we took care not to slip on the marble steps. She was very knowledgeable and sweet. Afterwards we had a wonderful dinner at a quaint little restaurant with plenty of delicious food to eat and wine to drink. We were so full we could barely fit in the scrumptuous dessert. We also had a nice view of the lit up Parthenon in the evening.

A bucket list tour for me. The tour was excellent and well worth the extra price to have a private guide. Because it was a private tour, we were able to ask a lot of questions and linger at areas we were interested in, rather than be rushed along with a group. The museum is beautiful and the exhibits are wonderful. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. Most importantly, she was kind. I had spine fusion surgery four months prior to the tour. My goal was to be able to climb to the top of the Acropolis. It was extremely difficult for me and took a very long time. More than once I was nearly in tears and certain that I wouldn't make it. She was my champion, encouraging me, letting me stop to rest - and she never looked impatient. I can't thank her enough. Going to the Acropolis is something I have wanted to do all my life. Thank you so much for a wonderful day!

My wife and I spent the last afternoon of our nine-day Mediterranean vacation touring the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum with a private guide who was extremely knowledgeable about ancient Greek culture, their philosophy and architecture. Having studied Greek architecture a bit in college and having visited many ancient sites while on this vacation, our guide provided with new information and insights we did not expect. She was able to guide us efficiently through the museum, which deserves more than a couple of hours, but with limited time, this was the best immersion into the history and sites we wanted to get exposed to. We had a little miscommunication about the start time which was quickly addressed after a short call to the Athens Walk Tour Company who provided our guide. At the end of the tour, the finale of our trip was dinner overlooking the Acropolis at night and was a experience that exceeded our expectations.

Our guide Mariza shared with us her love, knowledge, and enthusiasm, about Greece, Athens, Acropolis, Parthenon, Greek mythology, and classical time technology. We were very pleased to meet her and learn a lot about her beautiful country. She is very nice and friendly person. Thank you Mariza, very much! The restaurant has nice view on Acropolis it locates on the roof and the food was OK.

Maria, our guide, was a well educated young woman who could tell an old couple the details of Ancient Greece and the cultural maturation without totally confusing us. Very accommodating and helpful to me. I am disabled, and Maria made sure that I was able to appreciate the beauty and progression .

Excellent way to see the Acropolis and the Museum and be introduced to Greek history. Our guide, Anna was wonderful with her stories of Greek history and mythology. We could tell Anna was extremely passionate and knowledgeable through her storytelling. The Greek dinner was lovely with nice staff and in a great location overlooking the Acropolis. Myself, my husband and our 14 year old son thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

There were seven of us on a family trip. Our guide was great and very engaging. I think her name started with an M. I am sorry I don't recall because she was terrific. She is also the first guide I have ever had that refused to accept a gratuity - and she certainly deserved one!! The dinner was also very nice with a good nighttime view of the Acropolis. There was too much yes, too much food, however, and I felt bad that we were not able to come close to finishing all that was served to us.

My wife and I were the only ones on this tour so we had the wonderful guide Annie to ourseleves. Really great tour of the Acropolis and museum. Food at the restaurant was nice and the staff were friendly, but we and other organised tour customers were seated with a very poor view of the stair well.

This private tour of the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum with Greek dinner was excellent. Our tour guide, Rosa, was very knowledgeable and personable. She told a story of Greek history and Greek mythology using the museum artifacts and the Acropolis to illustrate the topic. Rosa was very informative and you could sense she enjoyed what she was sharing.

Wow what a great experience with our guide Edie! She knows so much about everything we saw. We could have done it by ourselves and missed so much of the story. She also engaged our 15 year old son which is not easy. Evening tour is the best time the marble of the acropolis was glowing.

On our final afternoon/evening in Greece w took the Viator Exclusive Tour: Acropolis of Athens New Acropolis Museum and Greek Dinner. We met Thanasis who is an archaeologist, historian, philosopher, actor, exceptional teacher and passionate citizen of Greece! Wow, the impressive credentials were only surpassed by Thanasis's ability to transfer his passion and knowledge! This was the grande finale of our final day/evening in Greece! I highly recommend!!! The entire family of four Me, my husband and 19/24 year old daughters give this a 5 star plus! We knew the Acropolis would be amazing but we had no idea how crazy, unbelievable the Acropolis Museum would be! Thanasis brought the exhibits alive for us in a way that would have never happened on our own. I learned about the genius of Phidias, the artichect and sculpture overseeing the construction of the Acropolis. I was also enlightened to learn the damage and theft to Parthenon caused by the greed of Thomas Bruce, the 7th Earl of Elgin in 1801. I vote for the British Museum to give the Parthenon Marbles back to the people of Greece!!!! When Thanasis learned that our daughter was a professional Actor he took us to the Theather of Dionysos where it all started. He directed a short Greek Tragedy with our family as the cast! We certainly had a great laugh! We enjoyed dinner on the roof top of Attikos Greek House. We did not get a view of the Acropolis as stated in the overview of the tour. When we asked to be seated where we would have a view of the Acropolis the Restaurant they informed us the seating area with a view was for guest w reservations. Since I purchased the tour two months in advance I was confused. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful evening and throughly enjoyed the tour

Simply AMAZING! Our guide was fantastic sorry, his card is at home and I cannot remember his name and spent so much time with us. He truly appreciated the history and shared so many insights and ideas with us. The dinner was also fantastic, but they did try to only serve us a glass of wine, rather than the bottle of wine that the tour included, so watch that. I would highly recommend this tour and will update with the guide's name because you should ask for him!

Our guide was marvelous and very helpful in adjusting our visit to meet our expectation and schedule. She has a lovely way of telling the history of the monuments with a bit of humor and even a little mystery. Her enthusiasm for the site is infection and we were spellbound as we learned of the details of this marvelous place. The pace of the tour was great and we were given every opportunity to explore. _br/_ Our Greek dinner afterwards was lovely and concluded a very special day in Athens. To have a private tour of the Acropolis is truly priceless!

Our guide was wonderful and thoughtful about our wishes. The Acropolis was spectacular and the museum was fantastic too. If you go to the Acropolis, don't miss the museum, the history it houses is incredible. Our dinner was great, food was excellent and ambience was perfect. We would definitely recommend this tour and restaurant.

This tour was amazing! Marisa was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and funny. She had no problems answering all our questions, and her great personality makes the tour so much fun. We had a great time, and learned a lot along the way. Definitely recommend this tour if you'll be in Athens. The acropolis is magical plus you get stunning views of the city, and visiting the museum is a great combo. Highly recommend!

Amazing tour. The guide Anna was highly professional and knowledgeable about the subject matter. Learned so much that I would have missed without the tour. She maintained a high level of energy throughout the entire visit and also shared a lot about Greek life and society beyond the content of the tour. Dinner was perfect too. Highly recommended for both a quick stopover in Athens or a longer stay.

Thanasos was an excellent guide and the experience was unforgettable. Without his historical/philosophical/theatrical commentary the visit would not have come alive as it did. A little more time at the museum would have been good. The restaurant Manh Manh was a wonderful culmination to our day. Highly recommended.

This was the best way to see the Acropolis. Our tour guide Sophia was great. You could tell she was passionate about the history and information she was presenting. Not like taking a robotic guide tour, she customized for the things we seemed most interested in. To top it off dinner was amazing.

Love, love, love this tour! Our guide was Greek and and an archeologist, so his knowledge of the history of Greece was very impressive. We went through the New Acropolis Museum first, which let the crowds and heat die down at the Acropolis. We spent about 2 hours touring the Museum. Once we got to the Acropolis, the crowds had thinned, and our guide took some really cool photos of us with the city and Parthenon. The dinner was EXCELLENT! One of the best we had during our time in Greece. This tour is worth the extra money if you're interested in history and want a real conversation with your guide, instead of someone just talking at you.

We had our tour with mr Iordanis, that spoke very good Spanish, had great sense of humor and gave us plenty of information during the day. The restaurant had good food and wine, as well as a beautiful view of the Acropolis, but from the table where we were seated we could not see it. Other tourists coming from the same kind of tour were seated at the same area, close to our table.

100 would do this again! We are very interested in learning about the history and culture where we travel and we really couldn't have been happier with this! Unfortunately we were so mesmerized and enthralled with our guide and what we were doing that we completely forgot his name by the time we got back to our hotel, this is my only regret. Not only was our guide Greek and a knowledgeable archeology professor, he also had an interest in theatre and acting. So he was probably the most perfect person to give this tour with his mix of skills and background. He had great pride and insight on all things Greek, a wealth of knowledge about archeology, art, Mythology and Greek History and a way of presenting information with a bit of poetry and/or the dramatic. He spoke excellent English, as most of the Greeks we met did, and all we wished was to have more time. If you do not enjoy learning or listening or art and history then this tour is not at all for you. The meal afterwards was enjoyable and we were grateful, especially as this was our first day, to be taken around one on one and have everything taken care of. This tour was perhaps the highlight of our trip, the bar was set very high on the first day!

This is one of the best tours my wife and I have been on. I actually didn't realize that it was a private tour. I was expecting a small group of 4-6 but it was just the two of us with a wonderful guide, Thanakis. He's not just an archaeologist but a history professor at Geogetown. For something so significant and so rich with history, it's amazingly easy and affordable to visit the Acropolis and other archaeological sites in Athens. To make a visit to the Acropolis as special as it should be, visit it with a historian or an archaeologist. The insight, history, mythology, and rich information they can share will help you truly appreciate not only the ancient Greeks but the excruciatingly difficult work that goes into restoring the structures. I felt sorry for the majority of tourists who climbed the Acropolis just to take a selfie. It's so much more than that. I also suggest you visit the Acropolis museum AFTER you visit the Acropolis. They complement and enrich each other nicely. And a good guide can tell you the significance of the museum's architecture as well. This tour includes dinner and a bottle of wine at a nearby restaurant. The restaurant we went to was listed in 36 hours. Well done viator!

This was the highlight of our visit to Athens. Our tour guide met us at our hotel and during a short walk to our first stop she gave us the itinerary she had arranged in advance. Our tour was set up by the tour guide so we would visit the New Acropolis Museum before we climbed to the Acropolis. This allowed us to learn about the Acropolis prior to actually visiting the site. Our tour guide was extremely informative with dates, history, and information we had never before knew existed about the Acropolis. We finished our tour with a quiet dinner at a Athens restaurant where the food was very enjoyable.

This was an exciting day I was concerned for my wife as she has problems with her knee and walking but we were able to make it to the top of the Acropolis although it was very windy and cold that day just unbelievable this is a and it is must for anyone visiting Athens, then onto the New Acropolis Museum with our guide who was so informative and understanding of our silly questions, there are a great deal of things to see here it is a pity that you are not allow to take photos throughout the museum but that means we may have to go back. The Greek Dinner was spectacular full 3 course à la carte type meal and in a great location so good that we went back the next evening. We would recommend this to all those interested in seeing a part of Athens, from the old to the new.

My family and I had a great time in Athens! Our guide, an archaeologist, historian and thespian, was extremely knowledgeable and presented information at the museum that would have been difficult to discern on our own. The museum tour set the stage for the early evening Acropolis visit which occurred at a perfect time of day, not too hot. The meal at the selected restaurant was a great way to end the evening as we all talked about the great things we experienced earlier in the day.

You can't visit Athens without visiting the Acropolis, and you shouldn't miss the New Acropolis Museum, which is very well done. Doing those things with the Vaitor guide made it all the more rewarding, as she was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We were a little skeptical about the post-tour dinner, but we were wrong! Great restaurant with a fabulous view of the Acropolis and a waitstaff and menu that did not make you feel like you were a tourist, just like you happened to be dining on wonderful food next to one of the world's great archeological treasures.
