After morning pickup at your hotel or the Auckland Fish Market, travel by comfortable minivan with a food-loving guide who provides an insider’s tour of Auckland’s fabulous food scene. Rich soil and a temperate climate means that Auckland gets a variety of fresh locally grown produce all year long. Your knowledgeable guide will take you to a farmers' market where you meet local food producers and taste their delicious produce, jams, sauces and baked goods. Stop in at specialty foods store to sample their wares. Then enjoy a personalized tour of the Auckland Fish Market where you go behind the scenes to meet vendors and restauranteurs who specialize in fresh seafood from the oceans around New Zealand. Your guide also takes you to great spots for a wine tasting and a light lunch.
Take in some of the city’s top sights as you drive around the city. Drive down Ponsonby Road to where your guide points out a number of favorites among the hip area’s boutique shops, cafés, bars and restaurants. Head to the top of Mt Eden to peer at the grass-covered cone of an ancient volcano and admire panoramic views over Auckland. Pass by the Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park, and get an overview of the 185-acre (75-hectare) expanse. The grounds include formal gardens, the Wintergarden Pavilion and the excellent Auckland War Memorial Museum. Many people choose to visit the museum after the tour ends and your guide can provide drop off at the museum.

A food tour by car, an excellent approach to see more of the area and experience a broad selection of food. Elle has a great breadth of knowledge of the cuisine and local happenings, she was a delight. Starting at the Fish Market we went out of Auckland to the Takapuna area for morning tea and pastries. We made a non-food stop at the Pump house, the lake was that was the source of water for many years for the city, now a beautiful small theater. We were then off to Sabatos, a local excellent store for spice, oil, vinegar, cheese and other local and imported food ingredients. We were treated to mushrooms, oil and vinegar testings and local cheese also bought a lot of stuff!. We ended up at the fish market with a complete explanation of the receipt and auctioning of the fish that come though the market. We finished at a small Restaurant in the Fish Market with samplings of local seafood and local beer. This is a great tour to get a look at the wholesale and retail end of the food chain.

It is food! What is there not to love? And our guide Elle, was very knowledgeable and easy to speak with. This was in Auckland and we also went to Wellington, Christchurch, and Queenstown. Elle gave us excellent recommendations on where to eat in every city! For my wife and I, it was all about the cheeses...so good!

My guide Colleen was absolutely gorgeous!! It was one of the best Foody tours I've ever been on! She met me in a very convenient location and after tasting some beautiful coffee at a local grinder, we walked down through to the city, stopping at great little foody spots along the way, ending up at the fish markets with a cool 'behind the scenes' tour and a delicious seafood lunch. Her knowledge of her city and its history was excellent and she was so much fun to hang out with. I really appreciate everything - I recommend this tour to anyone who has a free day in Auckland and enjoys food!! Cheers!!
