Auckland Maori Tour and Cultural Performance
Auckland, New Zealand
Experience Auckland from a Maori perspective! The Auckland Maori Tour takes you through the Tamaki Makaurau area (Auckland) with a highly knowledgeable Maori guide. You’ll be immersed in New Zealand’s indigenous tikanga (culture), and learn about a rich cultural heritage dating back hundreds of years, as well as Maori leaders who helped shape New Zealand into a modern nation.
On this full day, Maori-guided tour, you and a small group of a maximum of ten participants, will get a highly-personalized experience of Auckland’s most famous sights, exploring the city and its surroundings from a first-hand Maori viewpoint. Your guide will lead you through the Te Wao Nui o Tiriwa forest, where you’ll learn about the native flora and fauna and their significance to Te Aao Maori (the Maori World). You’ll see the black sand beaches and windswept cliffs of the famous ‘Wild West Coast’ of Taihauauru, as well as Devonport, the final resting place of Patuone, one of the chief negotiators and signatories of Aotearoa/ New Zealand’s founding document.
In Auckland proper, you’ll take the Tamaki Drive, one of the most scenic roads in the world, and at the Auckland museum, you’ll get a chance to see the Maori Cultural Performance, including the famous Haka War Dance.
Very nice tour with informative guide. Cultural dance show was nice, museum was awesome! Lunch was delicious and comfortable outdoor seating at restaurant. Beaches and waterfall and local scenery were breathtaking. Tasting honey was a nice touch.

Absolutely the BEST tour! Sofia was a real gem! We took this tour Me, twin 15 yr old daughters and we all agreed this is one of the best tours we have ever been on and we have done a lot of them!. Comfortable van with snacks!, amazing tour around including beaches, waterfalls and Maori legends/history, delicious lunch and gorgeous scenery. They even picked us up and dropped us off at our airbnb apartment! I would HIGHLY recommend this tour and Sofia, in particular!!

It was a really interesting way to see the city and learn about the culture. Sofia, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic to share her culture and city. It was nice to see the cultural performance but we would have liked more time in the museum. The particular day we went we were a solid 30-35 years younger than all the other guest. The guide did a nice job to ensure everyone had a pleasant experience.

This was an amazing experience. I would definitely go on tour again. The Maori guide was friendly, took us to a great restaurant and was very cognizant of the time effortlessly moving us from place to place without feeling rushed.

This was one of the best tours we have ever taken. Nine hours of history, Maori legends, beautiful scenery and exciting presentations. The tour guide is the owner of the company and she was knowledgeable and entertaining. It was a pleasure to spend the day with her. She added some touches like the New Zealand tastings and the gift that were icing on the cake. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone who wants to see Auckland and hear about the Maori way of life. I'd love to take her other tours around New Zealand.

Can I give this 6 stars? Ceillhe made Auckland really come alive. She told us about its history and the Maori history of the city. We saw amazing views and heard great stories about the city. I could not recommend her enough! I never felt rushed, and I felt like we got to see some amazing Auckland sites.

Do not think and book this tour at once! We were fortunate to have had Ceillhe, the founder of Time Unlimited Tours. We were thoroughly satisfied with the pace of the tour providing us with ample opportunities to take photos and ask questions. Ceillhe is wealth of knowledge and is genuinely passionate about sharing her knowledge with everyone. I will highly recommend this tour!

In a word, OUTSTANDING!!!! We were fortunate enough to have Ceillhe Sperath, the founder and director of Time Unlimited as our tour guide and host for the day. She met us at our hotel in a luxurious Mercedes van and greeted us in the Maori language. Little did we know we were in for the day of our lives. As the tour began to unfold, we knew we were being treated to a insightful experience as only someone who is Maori and a naive New Zealander could impart. Throughout the course of the day, we crisscrossed the city visiting many historical sights, had lunch in Devenport followed by a visit to a wildlife park, a black sand beach and a rain forest. Ceillhe provided us with fresh fruit, snacks and beverages throughout the day. At the end of the stop to Peha the black sand beach, Ceillhe put out what I would call a tailgate spread of beverages and goodies native to New Zealand. She explained what they were and encouraged us to try them. She was the consummate guide, never rushing us and giving us time for plenty of photo ops. This was a small group tour and it felt personalized. Thank you for an amazing day that provided memories which will last a lifetime!

This si an amazing tour if you want to know about the native people of New Zealand. We had two guides...one of which was a Maori. He told us of his family origins and the origins of all of the Maori lands. Seeing the origins of the Maori, one can understand the similarities and differences of the original people of New Zealand, French Polynesia and Hawaii. The movements of the hands and the bodies in the dance are similar butdifferent depending on the lsland. Truly a worthwhile tour.

This was an amazing tour. Sofia was an awesome guide, and besides seeing things relevant to the Maori culture, they also provided samples of NZ food that I probably would not have known about otherwise. You also get to see a lot of Auckland on this tour.

Our Maori guide was extremely informative, although I felt like I got a little too much information about the Maori people. I really didn't want to get a PHD in Maori culture but rather an understanding of the people in relation to the history of NZ. Unfortunately as for myself, I couldn't get a word in edgewise or get a question answered during her dialogue. At the museum, which was great by the way, we stood in one area for 15 minutes while she explained more stuff instead of traveling around inside the museum and giving brief explanations of all the interesting stuff we were seeing. My husband and I were so disappointed that we were not able to see more of the museum and would have preferred to hear less of the culture there and see more of the exhibits. At the beginning of the tour, the guide did not even give the tourists time to introduce themselves before the lessons began. A simple balance of dialogue is suggested to the tour company Time Unlimited. Other than this aspect, the tour itself took us to some very beautiful areas and we had a wonderful lunch at Devonport. If you want to learn about the Maori people and their culture, then this is definitely the tour to take. They also gave us a very nice set of coasters at the end of the day which we appreciated. The Maori dance and song portion at the museum was very enjoyable. The stroll on the western beach at the end of the day was also nice.

Despite heavy rain on the day, we thoroughly enjoyed this trip. The guide had packed us waterproof coats - very thoughtful as we only had fleeces due to the fact we were travelling all round Australia and NZ and the weight restrictions on the various airlines. Not sure I appreciated how wet and cold NZ would be, unlike Australia. We had a great day out, first at the cultural show, then lunch at the fish market, followed by a trip into the rainforest. Jo, our guide, was lovely and made it a very personal experience - there was only us and one Australian - far better than big coach trips. She provided us with snacks and traditional NZ fare for us to try throughout the day. Great experience.
