When your cruise ship docks in Auckland, don't miss the chance to taste a variety of New Zealand’s wines on a fun and informative winery tour. Visit two or three wineries, and enjoy views of the Tasman Sea along the way! With a choice of morning and afternoon shore excursions, you can choose the tour that best suits your cruise itinerary.
After you've docked in port, your Auckland shore excursion begins with a meet and greet at your pickup location -- Prince's Wharf -- from where you'll enjoy a drive by comfortable minibus through Auckland's city center and western suburbs to the West Coast wine region.
If you've selected the morning tour option, you'll stop on the way to look out over the magnificent Muriwai black-sand beach on the wild Tasman Sea coast, and then take a short walk to the popular Takapu gannet colony, where you can get an up-close look at these large sea birds and take advantage of great photo ops. If you've chosen the afternoon tour option, you'll visit an additional winery instead.
At both a large established winery and a smaller boutique label, taste a range of New Zealand’s wines, from chardonnay to pinot noir to
Bordeaux-style. During your guided winery visits (either two or three, depending on option selected), you'll also discover why the West Auckland region is known for its wide-ranging varieties of wines, made from grapes grown in such world-famous wine areas as the South Island’s Marlborough and Central Otago, and the North Island’s Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne.
Your trip back to the Auckland port takes you along the Tasman Sea for fabulous views of this wild, rugged coastline. You'll then arrive back at the waterfront in time to re-board your ship. My friend and I were the only ones on this tour the day that we went. The weather was delightful and the wines were delicious. Everyone was very knowledgeable and engaging making the tour a very pleasant one. The countryside is beautiful and it was nice to get away from busy Auckland for a day. The visit to the Gannet colony was nice. The ocean views were amazing. Wear a hat and sun glasses! It isn't shady there at all. I have to say that New Zealand is just beautiful and if you get the chance to do this tour, you will not be disappointed.

This was a post cruise excursion to see sights outside of Auckland and visit wineries. John, our guide, was very friendly and informative. We first went to the northern coast to see the the Tasman Sea, the Muriwai black sand beach, and the Takapu gannet colony. John provided great commentary on what we were seeing. Then we were off to visit two wineries for tasting. John selected two excellent wineries and were received a broad selection of great local wines to taste.

Written instructions said be at Hilton Hotel but the MPV was somewhere else. Hilton hotel assisted and tracked down Viators supplier who was Canterbury Leisure and they are then subcontracted to Auckland Wineries Tours. Eventually they found us. The tour felt 'rushed' but was never the less very pleasant and enjoyable

We took this tour because we were visiting Auckland for 1 day on a cruise and had limited time. John, our tour guide took us to wineries that matched our taste in wines. On the way we stopped to see a gannet colony which was a fascinating insight into these birds. This was a great tour and we highly recommend it.
